The two holes either side of the spindle on the disc are for a puller - I just had to make one to get mine off after the grub screw came out while sanding! Thanks for the vid it helped 👍
hey I just bought one of these myself for $30 in an on-line auction..They are Awesome! And I could not stop laughing at you struggling with that table; 😂 3 hours later But you did it! Excellent Video..I subscribed.👍😉🇨🇦
Thx for the video. I was given this as a gift 20 years ago. And I use it a lot! The issue I’m having is the sanding (disc) plate keeps spinning after I turn the unit off? I removed the hex screw from the top. But the plate will not come off?? I may try spraying WD-40 in and around the main shaft to help loosen it.
Hey man awesome video my dad had one never took it out of the box for 10 years and decided we were going to put it together today and couldnt find a manual thanks for the help!
Introducing the concept of 3D drafting and printing a replacement part was neat. I might have done a temporary fix with Superglue to get the sander up-and-running.
Is it possible to find parts for this belt sander that you show in on the video I'm missing the table and also would like to see if I can replace the housing as well I also bought this one at a garage sale but it's pretty well beaten up
Hello the sanding belt portion of my sander is not stable once I tighten the collar around it. This is when it is moved to the vertical potion. The collar appears tight but the sanding belt portion will move about 1/2 inch. Did you or anyone else have issues similar to this? I plan to disassemble to see if any problems...waiting on a bearing puller right now. Oh thank you for putting out the video....very cool use of 3d modeling and printing.
Old video I know, but I have a similar sander, 1 or two years newer and cannot for the life of me, get the sanding disc off. I saw you struggled a little in this video, any ideas of how to get it off?
If you use a razor blade or thin knife and can get it under the old disc anywhere around its edge, then with some patience and elbow (finger?) grease you can work it free slowly going around the circumference. It left a lot of adhesive on the metal for me, but a solvent took that off.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, just give you a pointer for the future. Next time you have a pole like shaft thats Rusty/ needs sanded if it's small enough to fit in a drill , it's a LOT faster way to sand it
You'll need to go to Delta or a 3rd party selling on line if you're talking about the rubber belt. Put your sander's model number in the google search for parts and you may find someone selling it. Try Amazon and do the same thing, using the sanders model number and you will see different things being sold that fit that sander. If you're talking about the sanding belts, they can be found in most home depot type stores and many places on line as long as you know the belt/disc sizes. They are not Delta specific belts. Don't buy cheap ones. lol
I’ve had one for probably twenty years. Bought it new. Delta doesn’t sell parts for it anymore, but I don’t know if that deems it vintage. Used the heck out of it and it’s still going strong!
I agree. Plus 3-D printed stuff is just cheap-ass plastic. If a metal part didn't survive, how the heck does he think a plastic one will? Even using JB-Weld to glue the original part back together would be far superior to making a 3-D printed part. SMH.
Question for you! I am currently trying to do the same thing as you, but cant get that blasted disk off the shaft. The set screw is out and it spins on the shaft so it cant be seized to the shaft. Any advice on that one?
Riley Fancey to answer this question, get 2 hex bolts, 1/4 -20 x 4” long. Thread the bolts through the 2 holes next to the center shaft. Start turning the bolts in with a socket wrench, alternating between bolts to keep the depth around the same. Eventually, the bolts will bottom out and begin to push the plate off the shaft.
you can remove the shaft from the sander and turn it around so the messed up end goes into the sander and the good end holds the table, I just had to do this exact thing. On my used Delta ($100!) there is no safety block on the belt sander, hmm
I’m missing my 6” disk part and was hoping someone knew where I could find it or an equivalent. Part number is 491911 but it looks like it’s discontinued.
Delta is notorious for discontinuing parts! As a suggestion, Craftsman sells the same machine (they all come out of the same factory in China, they’re just painted different) and I bet it’s the same part! I’ve used this method of finding parts on several occasions!
I have one of these, I like it but it is hideously underpowered. I'd love to find a way to upgrade the motor, but I've had no luck finding anything that would fit in the case.
Interesting video. 3D Print a simple part? It would have been easier to make a replacement from scrap metal in a few minutes. Too bad many schools have dropped industrial arts from the curriculum.
tengo una maquina delta shop master pero me falla de la palanca que recorre la lija sera que el resorte que tiene abajo ya esta muy flojo gracias carlos de mexico rioverde san luis potosi
Good effort on a tuneup, but certainly not a "restoration". You may have some issues if you are sanding the backing materials though. Those are meant to be perfectly flat, and I fear that yours may not be now. I was rooting for you to squirt some old WD40 on that table shaft. A little penetrating oil can help tremendously. Just my 2 cents.
Not Restoration. Just simple SURFACE aesthetic cleaning. Not enough skills or necessary tools to perform any "restoration". Purchase a cheap Grizzly G0602 and learn to work it, get some serious machining skills as well as electrical experience. Perhaps the term "restoration" could be used correctly. No worries JMHO.

Lmao! At 2:05 ..."finally" is not the f-word I would have used.
Just got this exact sander from my father in law and that same piece is broken. Thank you for the file!
i found one at a yard sale with the same broken piece.

what a piece of great luck for me, the drive belt has just gone on the belt sander in work, and this has really helped, massive thanks
Nice Job!
Excellent. I have inherited such a belt sander - am now inspired to perform a similar refurbishment.
Introducing the concept of 3D drafting and printing a replacement part was neat. I might have done a temporary fix with Superglue to get the sander up-and-running.
Any idea where I can get that perpendicular stopper/fence over the belt? Mine is missing.
Ooops...the belt is installed backwards. See the directional arrows on the backside.
Gonna pretend its not broking and move on!! Sounds like my new life motto.
Is it possible to find parts for this belt sander that you show in on the video I'm missing the table and also would like to see if I can replace the housing as well I also bought this one at a garage sale but it's pretty well beaten up
Well done man...Great job !

Hey can you tell me were I can get that piece 3D printed I don't have one I broke mine the same way!!!! Thanks!!!!
what size of belt sander does it uses I found 4 inch by 24 or 36?
36
I have the same machine. When I put even minor pressure on the disc, the machine bogs down. Any clue about fixing it?
Great job , Vinny! I'm actually separating mine, to make a surface grinder(for knife making). I enjoy all your videos! Keep em coming!

What size Allen key did you use to on the disc set screw? I can’t find one that fits mine
Awesome!!!!! As good as new !!!!!
Can you/would you make a vertical belt guide for this unit. I have the same belt sander but have lost/misplaced the guide.
Good Video & Where Did You Get Your Belt & Disk From & If Some Like Me Dosent Have A Neat AngleGage Just Use A Square 👍👍👍😉
I have the same sander, nice job and Great video. Get one of those belt erasers “abrasive cleaning sticks”, they are worth it.
Good to know, thanks!
I suggest investing in a can of liquid wrench. Would greatly help with removing rusty items in the future
I have same model. Would you know what size screws are that hold the shroud on? Mine are missing and new replaced.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, just give you a pointer for the future.
Next time you have a pole like shaft thats Rusty/ needs sanded if it's small enough to fit in a drill , it's a LOT faster way to sand it
Hi Vinny, where is the best place to get replacement belts?

@@JC-tq8gm Thanks Vinny. I appreciate your getting back to me!
Thanks - was helpful.
Great video, I'm a new subscriber and appreciate the effort on this and that it is simple enough for your average DIY'er.
can these be used for sanding metal?
Glad you made it work properly again!
I also got the same Delta sander at a garage sale for $20! the original owner died and all I did for restoration was remove some spider web.
is this a vintage tool now? lol i just used the one thats been in my shop for ages...
I’ve had one for probably twenty years. Bought it new. Delta doesn’t sell parts for it anymore, but I don’t know if that deems it vintage. Used the heck out of it and it’s still going strong!
You should buy some PB Blaster or at least Liquid Wrench. Make your life easier.
Thanks for the video. we have the same thing in Australia but its a Ryobi. btw its that a Marathon watch?
Not really a restoration but a good video and thanks for the 3D model!
Where can you get that belt
That part is so simple to make from a chunk of metal (brass, aluminum or steel) with just a hacksaw, drill and file.
I agree. Plus 3-D printed stuff is just cheap-ass plastic. If a metal part didn't survive, how the heck does he think a plastic one will? Even using JB-Weld to glue the original part back together would be far superior to making a 3-D printed part. SMH.
I have the same sander , I am missing the disk though, hard to find online anywhere, if anyone knows or has one I would be interested. thanks
Blah Blah you should be able to get any 4” disc to replace it..
I was lazy and bought the 6" replacement disks on Amazon. The search I used to find them was "delta 31-460 disk"
You can probably buy that part from Delta. While the plastic part will work short time, I would replace it with a metal one. JMHO
Part number 95-492054 is no longer available from Delta.
Great buy for your workshop and cleaned up nice great job 👍👍
Great job. Good to see another video.
Thanks!

TBury WW thaaaaaaank you! Holy Christ! That disk is a pain in the anus!

Great clean-up!
Thanks!
Thanks Bro learn a few things
In working position the motor seems to have some play
Where do you buy the aluminum tape.
Thanks,
Peter

For clean h disc you should had turned the machine on and pressed your sanding block to he disc let the motor do most of the work for you
that looks just like my craftsman 🤔
Can this sander/grinder be used on metal too?
I have one of these, I like it but it is hideously underpowered. I'd love to find a way to upgrade the motor, but I've had no luck finding anything that would fit in the case.
Great job! Very good deal indeed.
Where csn i get wiring specs for cord replacement .. HELP
Interesting video. 3D Print a simple part? It would have been easier to make a replacement from scrap metal in a few minutes. Too bad many schools have dropped industrial arts from the curriculum.
a glasplate unther the sanding paper ////result spectaculair less friction
Like this.👀
OMG
replacing of metal part by 3d printed plastic doesn't look reliable.
I want this
My disc is NOT popping out, but I'm sure the threaded holes are somehow key to my sucess. :P
I've got everything apart except for the damn face plate. No amount of hammering on it helps. :(
Did u ever get it off? If so,how?
You didn’t correctly disassemble the deck the entire bar comes out making cleaning easier. I owned mine for years and recently had it told to .me
Watching you take off the tool rest was amusing. Next time, try grabbing it where it connects, down at the bolt. Torsion is reduced.
Daniel San! Use the waxing technique to polish that staff!
Great job! I need one of those.
I use my printer to make a lot of things
don't use sandpaper....use a cup brush on a right angle die grinder to remove rust....
He could’ve had the table off in no time flat if you would’ve spraid the shaft With liquid wrench or WD-40
every hear of wd40 to make parts easier to dissassemble
Have you heard of WD-40..?? 🤪
tengo una maquina delta shop master pero me falla de la palanca que recorre la lija sera que el resorte que tiene abajo ya esta muy flojo gracias carlos de mexico rioverde san luis potosi
