Painting the C1's interior plastic trim

  • In this episode, I’ll be removing, painting and re-installing the interior trim pieces of Project C1. This is a popular modification that makes a dramatic impact on the way your car looks and is very cheap & easy to do at home. The idea of this task is to both improve the look and feel of the interior of the car and to help improve my skills with paint & prep. There are areas that are a little orange peely, but there’s only really so much you can do without buffing them with a cutting compound, which I wasn’t really all that bothered by, so I left it as is. I have left a few pieces unpainted, mainly the heater controls, because I intend to do those in gloss black to match my intended red and black theme for the car - that will come in a separate video when I start to concentrate on the black part of the transformation.
    Link to the paint that I used:

      If you need a hand, give me a call and bring the pug to mine. I’ve still got all the tools and stuff. You’ll probably need to come up with a color scheme too, because the silver car already has a silver plastic trim.

      This seems to be a hotly debated topic. To make sure you’re on the correct side of your policy, I would tell them. Wether they care about it or not is entirely up to them. At least you’ve done the right thing that way.

    HI. I need help and your vid is the closest i'm gonna get. The left indicator flasher on my instrument cluster is playing up when i turn: its glitchy. and I need to get to the back of the cluster to look. I see in the vid that to access the cover i remove the 2 screws from the sides of the steering wheel. once i do that, how difficult is it to get the cover off? are there clips on the back that need disconnecting or does it pull straight off?

    do you have to sand down before you put the grey primer on ?

    • @DABDIY
      @DABDIY  3 года назад +2

      That’s what the scotch pad was for. You could use sand paper if you’d prefer, but a decent scrubbing with a clean scotch pad did the same job.

      Scuffing was plenty. Make sure you do a decent job of scuffing though. Might be a good idea to use an adhesion promoter too, but I didn’t se that as a necessary step for me.
