Studying the 1928 and 1929 National Tournaments has been eye opening. It would suggest a combination of Cha Fist, Chin Na, Xing Yi, and Shuai Jiao would be an excellent combination.
The 5 Elements are already such a comprehensive system applying to various weapons or empty hands just the same, just like boxing you only need a few basic movements and it can evolve into infinite combos. That's why it was the standard military training method in ancient times due to its simplicity, and soldiers don't need long periods of training to be effective in combat, but generals or experts can spend a lifetime to refine and perfect the art.
I have been practicing the "Immortal Mountain" meditation. At the end of the meditation chant it says "I see you come with ten thousand knives and ten thousand swords to cut but they are as soft as silk to me. The mountain doesn't move. The mountain moves " I now understand why the mountain moves. Thank you 🙏
Read the manuals and had an opportunity to learn the principles from an instructor that trained with our Dong Shen Chang Shuai Jiao/Tai Chi school, it gave me an appreciation of this lesser known Daoist art.
Sad to hear that XIng Yi isn't that popular in the gander scheme, but hopefully more videos like this will change that. Thank you for the informative video, Adam!
Studied Hebei Hsing I Chuan with Sifu Henry Look for almost a decade. We would do the standing I-Chuan postures which takes about 45 minutes. Developes strong focus.
Greetings Adam, you are correct. You can see it in the Fishermans long pole and those working on the River Systems in Asia. Thank you Ancestors, as they say in Football go long☀️
I always felt like Wing Chun had some influence from Xing Yi. Sounds crazy, until you realize that the earliest verifiable / published promotion of Wing Chun publicly was by wealthy members of the Jing Wu organization. Earliest published photos of Wing Chun are the daughters of one of its head members. The structure in those photos is very different from Ip man family, it’s closer to Hakka style stance and “beggars hands” posture. Not surprising, because they are around the Pearl River Delta. Huge Chu Gar Southern Mantis / Hakka Kuen area. But, now, if you look at the Yuen Kay San family who paid a Police Constable to train their sons... the Sup Yee San Sik footwork, stepping and striking has close similarities with Xing Yi San Ti Shi and Beng Quan. Not saying Wing Chun comes from Xing Yi or anything, but, I definitely feel like there was exchange that happened. One of the reasons Wing Chun was picked up by the martial arts organization is because people in the South were upset that they were only promoting Northern arts. So they took the name of a rebel Wen Shengcai, who took out a Qing official (he used a pistol not Wing Chun lol), and they promoted Wing Chun this way using this “Hero.” This is around 1919. It is actually the Son of Wen Shengcai was the trainer of the daughters of Jing Wu official Xiong Changqing. Jing Wu also promoted Chinese Wrestling, Folk Dance, and Weaponry. Wen Weiqin, the son of Wen Shengchai who brought Wing Chun to Jing Wu, also shared a stage with Wong Fei Hung during his last public demonstration.
weird, the ones i know: -the original is 3 fists, not 5 element fists. 12 animal forms? that's from xinyiliuhe's 10 big shapes. -the muslim art most likely is xinyiluhe, but its predecessor, xinyi, is not. -wang xianzhai called anything he deemed good as xinyi, so we need to be mindful when reading what he said/wrote.
It is impossible to make origin Xing Yi from muslim, because muslim forbids to deal with internal energy. Xing Yi is the one of three internal styles (taichi, baqua, xingyi). Every true ancient Xing Yi masters practised forms. Without forms there is not Xing Yi. If instructor does not teach Xing Yi forms , instead that orders to stand for year in stili position then I am not suppraised that nobody want to learn that. Nobody would be so stupid...
😂. I am a Muslim and you have no idea of what you are talking about. Islamophobia has no place in the martial arts. Of course Muslims have respect for internal energy. There is nothing haram about it at all. Stop spreading ignorance.
@@DarrylCarman I have nothing against Muslim. It is matter about truth and nothig else. Book of Deuteronomy (the Bible) 18.10 "do not deal with magic" . Qi energy is considered as magic . That's all in this.
i agree with the form. since it came from spear method, at the very least there should be single movement forms and counter attack forms. on that muslim thingy, i do recognize that some if not most would consider internal energy as magic, thus forbidden. but i know some muslims who do not view it as heresy, some in southeast asia even practice martial arts with internal energy, or its variation. one of them told me that if we do post training, ie standing in a stance for a long time, we need to balance it with plank position for a long time.

I always love to learn about martial arts history, so I’m happy to watch this.
Thanks, Adam

Do y’all have a recommendation for good xingyi in nyc?
🙏
I feel bad for your student who quit working with the Xing Yi teacher. Ouch.

If legend has it right Wing Chun was founded by Ng Mui, who was in Shanxi province and a master in Shanxi Xing Yi.
😀 Just nitpicking, in Cantonese 王薌齋 is pronounced "Wong Heung Jai" same as 香 for fragrance
Тоже больше прочего нравится синъи (Россия)
