    Quick clarification at 12:32. You can view charger availability on the app by tapping 'Centers' and then tapping the active pin for the station you're currently at.

    I went to the Grand Opening and was very impressed. Now is the proof of concept period. The Rove team is very responsive to suggestions/criticisms so I expect things will only improve going forward.
    I live in Costa Mesa so I'm anxious to utilize that facility when it is on line.

    I honestly don't get why we aren't seeing more of this. The returns can be higher than those of a gas station as those who stop by will generally be in the mindset to actually go in and spend some additional money besides charging. Do the Love's thing and expand amenities to include a small gym or shower for an additional monthly membership fee.
    This business model would be my lotto dream for the SE. Manifesting this right now, lol.

    • @goneelectric
      @goneelectric  7 дней назад +4

      Excellent point. While I was there, nearly everyone who charged also went into the store to buy something. Hopefully someone puts in this sort of investment in the SE!

    I am currently in a hybrid and hope to upgrade to an EV next year. This type of charging station will go much further toward people purchasing EV's than government mandates. Thank you for a very informative YT. I did subscribe and thumbs up.

    This is what charging should be. They need to open these across the US not just in the OC and the South Bay. However the only issue would be that charging operations are constantly changing. Eventually all this will will need to be replaced with induction charging which will be the future. And charge speeds will increase so that you won’t need to spend 10-60 mins at a place like this so many amenities won’t be needed. But I guess we live in the present and for now it would be great to see them expand nationwide. Sort of like a Buccees for EVs only!

    Thanks for making this video. I’ll be going to Los Angeles next week and wanted to check out this location. I was disappointed that, though I heard in the initial videos on this location, they had magic dock, but when I looked on the Tesla app, it was not enabled. Thank you for the clarification of the software issues that Tesla is having. I was kind of disappointed that though they claim fast charging they will have only two chargers that are 350 kW and 10 chargers that are 180 kW. I know from many cars that may not be a problem but I have a Taycan and appreciate the higher speed. My concern is that those 350 kW chargers will be used by vehicles that are not able to utilize the speed as happens at Electrify America when there’s a mix of 350s and 150s.
    I’m very much appreciating that Electrify America is generally putting in all 350s balance power for their new installs. That really simplifies things. Hopefully Rove will consider this in their next two installations.

    • @goneelectric
      @goneelectric  6 дней назад +1

      I was a bit surprised by this as well. I’m assuming that they intended the Tesla V4 magic docks to serve a bulk of the faster charging cars, but the Tesla software snafu has complicated things. I’m assuming (hoping) that they’ll install more 350s on future build-outs. Give this one a try though. It’s still quite impressive.

    I think the point is, from a functionality standpoint point this is a much more reliable experience than all the rest, that’s what everyone has been complaining about right. I’ve never been to an EA site with a manager, so this is a step closer to that “don’t have to think about it” experience.

    As I watch the video I will note that it is 3 days since their grand opening and it seams that after getting a run through on charging experiences they are making repairs or updates where required. This station has 40 fast DC chargers with 28 being Tesla. Pricing seems to be inline with others such as Electrify America in the area.

      Opposed to gas station like stores, that Gelson’s looks extremely fuller. It looks more like a one stop to go shopping and to charge as opposed to charging on the road where you just wanna get a quick bite. So it is a different dynamic and we’ll have to see how it works.
