When this first popped up as recommend, I wondered why YT would give me a tutorial on digital modeling only to read "diorama." Then I thought, "oh, another cool resin project," and wondered how you did the depth of the waves with resin... Let's just say I was in for a ride. This was truly wonderful and inspiring. The project comes across as realistic and I hope you're satisfied with this attempt at waves. I was truly stumped for a few moments by the thumbnail wondering where 3D computer modeling came into my algorithm and I don't know when I'll get over that, lol
While I paint at a 3rd grade level on a good day, I am pleased to see a pro be almost as good at painting themselves as much as their project as I am. :) Stunning, as always! Tks for sharing!
Beautiful, but I can't agree when you said that this is more successful than your previous efforts because they are all stunning as well. Look forward to your next project!
Brilliant as always. I started a speed boat diorama a few weeks ago and it's funny how none of the stages or materials are the same! It was fascinating to see which products and techniques you used. Thanks.
I have to admit, halfway through I did not like it and thought it would never work. When you got to the end I realized it was definitely one of the best I had seen. I was really impressed with your use of materials.
Wow that is awesome. It really looks like some really nasty waves. Heck check out The Deadliest Catch on Discovery, some of the nastiest waves you can imagine.
I'm doing something similar with a couple of Airfix lifeboats in a scene on a model railway. Good effects although tissue paper has better micro water effects and is far easier to apply as you already stated. Time index 6.43 "and in the end I'm very happy that I used the water colour paper despite the effort it took". That wouldn't be my take away from watching this video! In the end after all the extra layers added it makes little difference. Like all learning, you keep what works well and discard what doesn't.

Not sure if you know who I mean when I say you remind me of Jim from Friday night dinner with random words. Anyway I always go to your videos to relax knowing I'll never be able to do that. Amazing stuff btw
thank you for the interesting and relaxing videos! if it’s something you’d consider, i would love to see these videos without the background music.. maybe we could hear the natural sounds of you working? or just your voice is relaxing as well (just a personal suggestion!)
When you make a new creation like so, do you know every single thing to do or so you sometimes just discover something that works? i.e. scratching with your paintbrush? It looks amazing btw!!
Ahhh okay, it’s so cool to watch your process and see it come together at the end, it’s inspired me to start making small creations of myself so thanks for that imagination fuel lol
It came out beautiful! Have some questions re your choices. Instead of water color paper could you have used tissue paper (not toilet paper) like is used for wrapping presents or aluminum foil? Also for sculpting could you have used mod podge or similar?
Thank you. Yes, you could use tissue paper, but I was experimenting. Toilet paper is probably best, actually. For sculpting the wave crests you definitely need something thick, and Mod Podge doesn't build up really.
To the people telling them that they should sell these I agree in some ways, but I feel like all of the time and money put into these, that they would sell for a pretty high price, and I’m not sure if people would buy them.
That's properly good, mate... Can I suggest a related project? Could you replicate the wave that hit La Jument lighthouse in the well-known picture? Cheers!
Interesting choice of greens there Merrick. They ended up giving a breathtaking result though. Except that.... I was expecting to see the fin of the shark protruding the waves, but I was disappointed.
This guy's school projects must've gotten the top marks.Great job!❤❤❤

I'm going to make these when I move into my first apartment next month.

No painter should be unpainted!
This right here folks. This is nice
Beautiful result! The greens really give a sense of light passing into the water, with a convincing sense of depth to it!
this is so calm and well paced ^_^
Thank you 🙂

I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure that having this much talent is illegal-
Very realistic representation of ocean waves.
That was Awesome.
Can you one day do a vid on a sort of japan themed river with a bridge? That would be really cool! Good job on the waves!

*THIS BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!!* 😍
I imagine it on display in MoMa! It reminds me of a 3D model version of that Japanese wave painting.
Thank you. Minibricks has actually done a model.of that painting 🙂

I am watching this @ 3am
Thank you 🙂
Another great tutorial! Call me greedy, but the diorama desperately needs a ship though.😬
Ha ha! I know. I have so little time to create such things, though 🙂
I love that it's a piece of the ocean, wild and clear
I want to see pine tree 🎄 forest
Please....
😮 first I think computer 3d model
When you make a new creation like so, do you know every single thing to do or so you sometimes just discover something that works? i.e. scratching with your paintbrush? It looks amazing btw!!
Thank you. I make half of it up as I go along. These aren't really tutorials as much as they're journal entries of a journey of discovery.
Ahhh okay, it’s so cool to watch your process and see it come together at the end, it’s inspired me to start making small creations of myself so thanks for that imagination fuel lol
Can you show all your Project? That would be so interesting
I no longer have many of the pieces...
se ve muy bien...yo he usado papel de aluminio y es mas facil....que el papel de acuarela.. y queda igualmente realista...gran trabajo...saludos!!
good 👍👍😊😊

Lovely work, what do you do with your dioramas when finished.?
Thank you. I store them, reuse them or give them to family and friends.

Twenty seconds into this video I was seasick!
great job! sorry but I don't speak English well what you diluted the silicone with
It's actually polymer caulking, not silicone. I diluted it with isopropyl alcohol, but you could use white spirit.
Awesome. How would you suspend a plane over this?
Thanks. I'm not sure, actually. Might need some optical trickery, or a wing scraping the sea.
Would love the material list below.
That's properly good, mate... Can I suggest a related project? Could you replicate the wave that hit La Jument lighthouse in the well-known picture? Cheers!

Very Good Work. Just Wonder how to Place a ship Model in this Wave.
Hi, good job.
Could you tell me please, if the silicone over time yellowish, or becomes moldy.
Thank you.
Greetings from the Kingdom of Spain.
Very surprising
could you use a thick mix of plaster of paris instead of scuptamould?
Can I email a photo of a scene I created? Would like your comments and suggestions.
