The entire show is how the sith just want freedom and the jedi are bad for stopping them hurting people. As the jedi are oppressing them by forcing people to be civilised.
Their response to this is literally anything is justified, so Osha remains the good guy. It's a horrific world view. Most would have the decency to be ashamed of it and hide it.

The thing is they're not even being completely honest about what the sith are or what they stand for. Sol was so badly written, as with every other character in the show, but the nail in the coffin is her somehow making this about sexism.

Well, if you are willing to spend your sanity on reading Leslie Headland interviews about Acolyte, it’s kinda obvious that either her morals are incredibly screwed, or she is a psychopath. Too many things that normal person would see as evil she simple does not and she is really struggling with understanding of what is relatable and how to draw empathy from viewers. She really think we should empathise with Osha, Mae or Qimir. Aside from that she is a pathological liar, contradicting herself in same interview or between and admitting that she lied to get things (fake it till you make it, and now we have an Acolyte, pinnacle of incompetence)

_"he would have 100% been tried for his unspeakable crimes and sent to prison or executed."_
That may be true, but almost certainly only due to how US Americans see "justice" when it's actually revenge or even vengeance. What goal do you want to achieve with punishment?
Do you want that person to feel regret and do what they can to make up for any mistakes? Then punishing them *_after_* they've started to regret their actions (and don't try to tell me that Anakin wouldn't have regretted his actions for the rest of his life) is almost certain to be counterproductive, they're far more likely to develop resentments and fall back into the very mindset that made them do what they did in the past.
There's only two goals you can achieve with punishments like that. One being the emotional satisfaction that revenge can bring. But that's usually at the cost of your own humanity - to stick with Star Wars, that's *_exactly_* the moment you would fall to the Dark Side. The other goal is to deter others from doing similarly bad stuff - but even that doesn't work only for _some_ of the people who would do it without the threat of punishment. And in this particular case - who the hell do you think would be deterred by the threat of a death sentence _from becoming a second Vader?_

@@GODCONVOYPRIMEwow you are hating for no reason also I have read fanfics infinitely better than this damned show so stop being biased cause you only read fanfics on wattpad instead of an actually good fanfics website like ao3. Also IRL professional writers write fanfic even top 10 best sellers, also fanfics can be original works. There is an entire tag for specifically original works on ao3 that are considered fanfics. Also any retelling of a story counts as a fanfic technically if it isn't the original. 99% of Greek mythology you know probably came from Ovid who is Roman and basically wrote a ton of fanfics that became myths to make the gods look worse. Like the most popular version of Medusa’s story is Ovid’s version. Every single retelling of a story like Cinderella? Technically a fanfic by definition you could argue that a decent chunk of fiction is in reality one large fanfic. You could argue the Legend of Zelda franchise is one complex King Arthur fanfic chock full of Oc’s also speaking of King Author. Did you know the entirety of his legend you isn't the original made different authors who liked the original therefore making them fanfics. Like bro you got to understand how dumb of a statement you just mentioned was. Like I understand why you would say this because people will post the unhinged fanfics that should have never been created but then you also have fanfics made by budding writers, professional writers, hobbyist and a host of other people who are just normal found a story they like and then decided to write something up about it.
TLDR; A hilariously large amount of modern media would count as fanfics even classic stories like Cinderella, the most popular telling of Medusa’s myth, and things like Dante’s Inferno.

I used to be a teacher in a psychiatric hospital and fully agree, this is how child predators operate and think and justify their actions, but most aren’t SA abusers but emotional abusers as well. Headland wrote Sol specifically to be a stand in for her father. She believes this is how typical father daughter relationships look like. That’s why she thinks going basically no contact is the only way women can live their lives as they want.
Hedland honestly doesn’t understand the difference between healthy parental love, or any love probably, and abuse. That’s why she believed it was a good thing and relatable when 26ish year old Osha actively tried to seduce what was essentially a high school junior from an all girls catholic school. And why it’s deeply moving for her that Osha ended up in a mass murderer who killed that child in front of her just hours before. She’s so broken and evil she can’t understand her understanding of relationships is levels of abuse all the way down.

Benign sexism is just male obligation and responsibility. Like how in the past the reason women needed men to co-sign on credit loans was because creditors were legally barred from suing women if they failed to pay back their debts. Only men could be taken to court. Any time you observe restrictions placed on women in any culture there is always a corresponding obligation placed on men for taking care of those women under those restrictions. Denying men authority in that situation would be like expecting a bodyguard to take responsibility for protecting his client if the client was not legally obligated to follow his safety rules.

Palps is basically Zapping Luke to death and Vader protects his son and kills palps but has his life support suit critically damaged in the process, which turns him back to the Light side since he sacrificed himself to save his son rather than stand by and watch Palps kill him. and its one of those moments where if you know the context with the prequel trilogy it makes the scene so much stronger.

Then on all that, you have the sister who burnt her home to the ground, trying to game end her sister and later started killing people, starting the events that led to a dozen dead Jedi.
This show gives the opposite message this article is laying out.

Leslye just makes The Acolyte worse with almost every interview she does. Instead of writing a Star Wars story. She made something about her personal issues and we unfortunately subjected ourselves to it. At the end of the day it's her fanfic and a lot of people don't count it as Star Wars lore. I would suggest watching the six Lucas films and just ignore anything Disney.

I get the feeling that the director wanted this show to have the Jedi represent religion, and the Sith to represent a specific community. Which is why they let the main character join the sith to be herself. Wild theory, but I can't find evidence to the contrary. It's worth noting that in the original trilogy the Jedi were inspired by the Knights Templar. The Sith were originally conceived as an army of fanatical soldiers that served the Emperor in the same way that the Schutzstaffel had served the monster in charge of Germany 84 years ago. Not something you let someone join to "be Themselves."

I do like the idea (which probably reached its peak in literary Legends days) that the Sith philosophy does appear individualistic from the outside but takes it through the funhouse mirror and out the other side: a Sith essentially becomes proximately addicted to the concept of finding, embracing and celebrating their attachments and identity because this is the necessary prelude to destroying those things and thus "breaking more of their chains", until the hypothetical end goal where they're a hollow shell with devotion to the Sith philosophy dominating simply because it's the thing they're never tried to destroy. A void at its core held together purely by the dispassionate will to do harm, continually struggling to find and hold onto new fuel for hatred to add some life to its existence.

This next topic is unrelated to Acolyte, but I wanted to mention it. I just finished watching the original 1987 Bates Motel movie (which has nothing to do with the TV series that came out in 2013). While that film was pretty goofy (albeit, cheesy fun), it was far more consistent and entertaining than the entirety of Acolyte, or any of the other Disney-Wars shows. That's how far Disney has sunk Star Wars, to the point that a mostly forgotten failed attempt at a Psycho TV series from nearly 40 years ago is more entertaining than a modern Star Wars show.

  • @Boozlord

It's sad that it reaches the point that as someone not familiar with starwars, you at times need to ask yourself the question of "Is the light side the "good" side?" Because that is something that should be as clear as cliche as it is to say Light good Darkness bad in pretty much any other media, that's how it is in Star Wars, now are there people in either side that can be manipulated/influenced by the other or that make bad mistakes, yes, like in literally everything, no one is perfect. But it should always be clear that the Light side is meant to be the good side and any deviation from being "good" if anything is more about the individual ratter than the cause itself.

People who do not have a traditional / conservative relationship with their spouse simply don't understand the dynamics. My wife and I are very traditional by modern standards. I have always been the provider, and she has stayed home with the kids and worked per diem. From the outside it looks like she is submissive to me, but what they don't understand is I provide for, and take care of her, so she can take care of us. That is why the saying: "For every great man, there is a great woman behind him" is incredibly accurate.

    • @Alteori
      @Alteori  4 месяца назад

Right! And that works for you guys and you are both happy.
Now I'm hearing many women who previously had said that they were Independent Women now want to stay home and don't want to work because it's hard out here. They want to be taken care of and they want men to pay for everything for them to give them a lifestyle of peace and no responsibilities.
The thing that they don't understand is that it is not just you sit home and do nothing unless you decide to go with a sugar daddy arrangement.
      You still have responsibilities.
If the guy is going to be outside working 9:00 to 5:00 or doing hard labor, then you're expected to at the very least, cook and clean, since he can't be at home doing that because he'd be too tired, since most of his time is spent outside.
I would say the same thing goes for a woman who works outside.
Right now my uncle, who used to work for Homeland Security, is basically retired.
His wife is still a doctor and she works very long hours so they did agree, even though she didn't have to even ask him for him to cook the food and for him to take care of the kids.
Since their kids are older now he doesn't really have to bother with that, but he does the cooking and he's way better at it, by the way.
They also have enough money that they can hire a maid to clean up on the weekends. But he puts the dishes in the dishwasher he does the vacuuming throughout the week, and he also does the outside work and building because he loves to build. That works well for them.
Sometimes my aunt comes home and she's so exhausted and then she's on call on top of it. So it makes sense that whoever is home is going to be doing some of the housework but a lot of these women who now are saying that they want to be at home and stay at home, don't want to do the housework and just expect that the man is going to work all that time for all those hours outside and then come home and then wait on them like they're servants. But somehow THAT'S not sexism?

A better idea for a sith focused show might have been to explore various sith myths and legends tied into them. Maybe have a slave using the darkside to break free of captivity... only for their darkside fueled rampage to catch innocent people and even loved ones in the carnage.
Or maybe a ancient noble sith king, who is devoted and loving toward his people and keeping them safe... only to commit atrocities and increasing levels of brutal sacrifice to preserve his people, and his family.
Imagine an anthology of 13 episodes each telling a sith legend or fables... with all the focus on selling these smaller complete narratives.
