Since 1976, I have lived in this neighborhood (off of Eastway/ Shamrock Dr. / Central Ave. ) I have seen this city go from good to bad. I have seen alot and have been involved with city public service. YES, you are right. The city is out of control. This area is NOT being gentrified--- No, this area is NOT being gentrified. And, I have talked to the City until I was blue in the face! I want to make my point clear.
Plus, it is very upsetting to watch the city throw money into the rich neighborhoods (Ballentyne, the South End, the North End, West Charlotte, when we here in (EAST Charlotte, where you videoed, have been trying for 20+ years for them to do something with the 80-acres at the old Eastland Mall area. I use to go to Eastland Mall for shopping; but when it became infested with drugs, gangs, shooting (now like Northlake Mall), it was DEMOLISHED. The crime in East Charlotte is ridiculously high. Now the city is finally doing something with the Eastland Mall area- exactly what, we don't know. They go back and forth, back and forth- (all talk and no action!) for 20+ years now. Just today, I was at the ALDI on Albemarle Road and there were gun shots in the apartments behind-- this is an everyday occurrence around E.CLT.
To prove, I have bullet holes where a bullet came into my bedroom wall and went across into my bathroom wall and into the next wall across. Last night the CMPD chopper was over my backyard and police cars were flying down my street. Later I saw on 'Next Door' the person was arrested. I am a pastor, and this is were the Lord has me planted amongst the most multi-cultural part of the city where the immigrants/ refugees mostly settled- many of them have done very well financially & socially.. and have moved to other parts of the city.

@avengedfingsevenfold meh. It depends on the locale. Grey skies are depressing in Charlotte because there's not much natural beauty around. Just hoods and burbs all around. In places like Seattle, you're surrounded by Evergreen trees, cherry blossoms in the spring, and mountains and water all around you so it contrasts well with the gray skies. Blue skies are great too, but you appreciate nature more in some cities regardless of the weather.

My biggest real complaint about Charlotte is that it’s difficult to get a place to live. It’s not *that* affordable (I can’t afford a place in Charlotte by myself without assistance). The housing authority just recommends you shelters and one shelter makes you call some number (closed after 5 and on weekends) to be accepted just to get in. I think trashy people are attracted to Charlotte from other places and if you have a bad encounter with someone there chances are they’re responsible. They’re probably also occupying the shelters and housing assistance workers, which a city this size doesn’t have enough of. But instead Charlotte keeps building luxury apartments and condos, which we really don’t need more of.

You have to understand Charlotte is one of the largest cities in the US. I live in a suburb west of Charlotte and am extremely familiar with the city. For a city its size (890,000), the crime rate isn’t that bad. One of the lowest rates of homelessness, one of the cleanest. You went through very select neighborhoods like Hidden Valley, trying to portray it as the norm. Most areas are actually very nice, again, for a city its size. I would never want to live in a big, central city of a metro area. Its liberal policies just create too many problems like you see in SF, LA, NYC, Portland, and DC. But Charlottes suburbs are great and the city itself is safe if you use wisdom and just stay out of the few ghetto areas. We have been here for years and have never had a problem.

Then call them crazy for wanting to see whats up with you or at least get a good look at your face. With all the shootings in CLT, people will approach you first rather than wait to see what you're gonna do the next time you make a loop. I DoorDash in CLT. Be prepared to be approached if you're unknown and doing anything suspicious like this. I've never been bothered. But I also know how to make it obvious who I am and what I'm doing without saying a word.
If you do this same thing in a Pineville or Ballantyne neighborhood, the reaction will be the same. But confrontation will be different. You'd be talking to the police.

Looking at this video and observing some of the landmarks like the Octapharma Plasma donation center you was near a very hood area called Hidden Valley. I'm not even from Charlotte and never lived there but I heard Hidden Valley was real bad several years ago. They had a documentary about this gang called the Hidden Valley Kings. Most of the places I visited in Charlotte was the southside area and all the local malls and Carowinds amusement park and Uptown Charlotte. I also visited Rock Hill ,S.C.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the point of this video. You are purposely trying to find the worst areas in and around the city. When you actively go looking for something, you're going to find it and then you have a guy approach your car and you booked it outta there? If someone approaching your car saying "excuse me" scares you that much, then maybe you shouln't be trying to drive in shady areas. I've lived in in many cities and states, including Charlotte, and these are not the "real streets of Charlotte" by any means. Charlotte overall is a safe city, so stop trying to scare people with headlines like that just for clicks because it is completely disingenuous.

I lived in Charlotte in the Noda area for over 55 years, I finally moved and have never been happier, every damn time I would go to Food Lion on the Plaza at Matheson a creature would appear from behind the building and say "you got money man? I need to buy diapers for my babies" or some other B.S. lie, I had to even plan my gas fill-up because there would be another creature that would suddenly appear before me and want money, I'm so glad to be away from Charlotte, it used to be pretty nice but now it's too crowded with creatures.

That Food Lion has been robbed so many times it is unreal. My son went to visit his friend in NoDa they went to get something to eat and when they got back to his friends home and parked 2 Black guys robbed them, knowing my son to well he only had ten dollars in his pocket. Is this worth having a gun put to their heads? Only bad thing is his friend bought the house before this happened. So it hasn’t changed that much in years still robbing ppl and killings on 36th street. Glad I moved out of Charlotte even thou I was born there many years ago and my Mother also may she RIP. Yes both born at Presbyterian Hospital now Novant and yes even my Sons were born there.

Just a normal day in Charlotte. Dad was transferred to Charlotte in JAN 1970. It was a sleepy southern town.....still had Blue Laws. In 2001 I escaped Charlotte. But in 2019 we returned for a funeral. We stayed in a 'good' area eastside. When leaving we were attacked by a LARGE homeless man. We escaped again but almost had to run down a person in self defense. Eastway Dr is still in the good side of town....try 'Beattie For Roo' next time.

I agree Charlotte isn’t one of my favorite cities, but it’s mainly because it’s boring, terrible traffic on the highways due to most of it being 2 lanes, terrible food scene, and a lot of rude/judgemental people. But acting like Charlotte is a dangerous city is laughable. I’ve felt way more safe here then I did in Jacksonville, Orlando, Atlanta, or LA. The only cities I’ve felt as safe in are Boston and Worcester mass.
