I do wonder how much of current WWE is because of AEW's debut vs how much is simply because of Vince being gone and Hunter finally getting full creative control. I mean NXT was already fantastic _before_ AEW was a glint in Cody and The Bucks' eyes, so it's clear that HHH had it in him already, but I do wonder whether he would have made as much of the changes he's made to the main roster product in the time he has if AEW wasn't around as an alternative. I do think the wrestling world as a whole needed it, not even just as another product for fans to watch, but also for the wrestlers to have another company in North America to go to make good money and get exposure far beyond what the independents can provide.
The 2010 era, on the whole, absolutely proves why AEW was necessary (and mid-2022 onwards is proof that the wrestling world is better off without McMahon in it)
@@R0D3R1CKV10L3NC3 2019, 2020, 2021, and the first half of 2022 were some of the most intelligence insulting crap in wrestling history. All of that was under Vince. Then Vince left and HHH took over, and virtually overnight, starting with Summerslam it started looking massively different. They started booking logical, easy to follow and invest in, storylines. And the fans started returning in droves. AEW has been the same thing since their inception. And the fans are clearly getting sick and tired of the constant hotshotting. The one thing to remember is that Vince, until the late 90's, wasn't a wrestler. HHH was a wrestler, trained by a wrestler, and watched territory wrestling. He always had that base of wrestling booking knowledge that Vince, for the most part, never had. And you answered your own question. Pre-AEW NXT was excellently booked. He simply brought that philosophy to the main roster.
I still find it funny how Bryan wins the title before the PPV by kicking AJ in the nuts. Nakamura had been doing that for several months beforehand and didn't win the title at all!
This show was just one of many around this point where the product felt so rotten that just looking at the pre show panel looking bored and wanting to be anywhere else apart from maybe Lawler he didnt know where he was
Another footnote I'm kinda surprised wasn't mentioned in the recap of Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey: This match was the point where the honeymoon period with Ronda ended. The live crowd infamously popped big for Charlotte laying out Ronda post-match even though Ronda was nominally a babyface. Ronda was legitimately upset by this and it wound up poisoning her relationship with the fans for the rest of her WWE run. WWE always had a dilemma with Ronda Rousey because her mainstream star power meant she was never going to be booked like just another woman in WWE -- but fans seemed to tire fairly quickly of her Lesnaresque steamrolling of the division, particularly as a babyface, a role that doesn't mix well with superhuman booking in the modern era and a role she always seemed very obviously mismatched for from a personality standpoint.
This is without hyperbole the greatest video series on RUclips. I’ve seen all the weirdest episode videos countless times, I can’t express how happy I was to see a new one
Funny of Jack to not mention Ambrose's short feud they were building with Nia Jax after they cut him off when he was about to give a shoot promo. Not that I blame for not mentioning it
Yeah cuz now he's using a similar gimmick in AEW. He said he hated how the WWE was in 2018/2019 but now in AEW he's saying on his promos he hates the company's direction like bruh that's what you were trying to leave
@@zanethindbut in AEW he has control of the company and he has creative freedom. Plus he is probably the highest paid wrestler in AEW and his salary is probably more than Roman's salary.
I was at this show. This video brings back such memories as the dude next to me complaining about Daniel Bryan during that whole match. Thanks a lot, Jack and Cultaholic😭😂
You know when the media reports on someone doing something horrendous? And they interview the neighbours, they all say how lovely and great community member he was. We as wrestling fans if asked about Vince McMahon it would be the opposite.
I was just thinking to myself the other day that it had been awhile since we'd seen one of these Weirdest Shows videos. The wait was worth it, Jack is hilarious as always!
I've been saving this all day and now it's 7am I just got home from work and now I can lightly chuckle as Jack retells the events of a big non-event in WWE history. 😄👍 I'm going to be smoking a bunch of purple, so there's that.😅
Jack my good friend I have been waiting for this for what seems like so long and you did great as always I think you have personally made me wanna watch wrestling again cheers mate 🫡
One thing to remember is that DVD's of the PPV's didn't have the preshow on them. So when they start talking about a Raw sweep, it's because home DVD wise, it would show that.
It's been six years, and I'm still waiting for WWE to finally cash in on the Flair we saw at this Survivor Series. We've seen flashes of that borderline deranged Charlotte, and yet for some reason they just won't pull the trigger on it. The egotistical, femme-Ric Flair version of Charlotte needs to change and she really deserves to have a character of her own identity like Dominik Mysterio has developed. Give me a Charlotte who has snapped in frustration. A Charlotte who isn't just getting title matches whenever she's back, but has started to lose it because she's been without a title for so long. Even pull a card from the Steve Austin book and have her willing to do anything to get her hands on that title again, much like Tommaso Ciampa and Goldie. Something to make her finally not feel like a nepo-wrestler.
Took me an hour and a half to watch this hour and eight minute video because I had to pause near the end to watch Lesnar vs Bryan in full. I really got annoyed with the commentary talking about “the sweep” with a graphic appearing onscreen during possibly the best post-match selling of Lesnar’s career. He never stood up once, laying on the ground a full minute before finally rolling out of the ring. The amount of selling he was doing for the damage he’d received from Bryan was amazing. One of my favorite moments.
This was the first PPV I watched live after subscribing to the Network. Sad that Survivor Series will also be the last main-roster PPV that I'll watch on the Network (because who could forget NXT Deadline?)
I love watching these videos while smoking, because it's like listening to a nerdy friend infodump on you, like yeah bro tell me more about the team chemistry of the SmackDown women's division
I love how Jack says he loves wrestling logic when the bulk of the episode is him ripping on how infuriating it is that matches only count when it's convenient to the story
GAH! FINALLY! Someone said it! Yes! If you've thought about it for more than 10 minutes, you might have been surprised HOW bad it was, but not that it was BAD. Of course we needed an alternative! AEW has its ups and downs, but I don't think anything has ever been booked there out of spite and contempt for the viewing audience. I do love that "weirdest" and "worst" are...just kinda different flavors of "bad." And even among that, I think Strowman hating everyone on his team except, inexplicably, Finn Balor is the kind of absurdist nonsense I can get behind.
US elections are typically held in November, like survivor series. They're also typically a battle of red vs blue for 'brand supremacy', which is what survivor series became. I cant believe ive never put two and two together before.😅
hold up, i just realised ive spent years conflating thinking both this weird show and the weird triple h survivor series as the same show. that one should absolutely get looked at as well
The crowd completely no selling Becky's "heel turn" was one of the greatest thing ever, the commentators trying to portray it as a great betrayal as the crowd cheered and cheered and demanded more And then the following Smackdown Becky tried to cut a heel promo blaming the fans, and the fans no sold that as well and cheered for her even louder, to the point the WWE removed most of the promo from youtube and just had her be Becky and let the crowd cheer for her.
All those flights, car rentals, heaving your old wrestling bags on one of the hotel beds, rushing to the NBA/NHL fitness centers for workouts, making the 1pm call time, having stooges with sheets of papers telling you your promos, having agents telling you your finish, packed makeup and clothing stiching corridors, and dealing with messanger pigeons for Vince like Bruce Prichard and Michael Hays critiquing you. Thats why its hard to be a WWE superstar
I'm on Drake Maverick's side: while I'm not thrilled at the idea, I could probably piss myself if needed, no matter how many people are watching. Especially if I was confident people would think it was a gimmick.
I was in the crowd for this event and can shine a little more light on Ali and Murphy. It’s not that we didn’t like the match, it was that this was at a time where the wwe themselves didn’t care about the cruiser weight championship lol
19:47 tbh asuka was in so much limbo with her booking during this time period i don't even think her taking the pin from nia jax would have mattered much
2018 was the start of the brand supremacy Survivor Series going downhill. They didn’t even adhere to the clean sweep booking as the New Day won for Smackdown on the pre-show!
I enjoyed the Raw v Smackdown Survivor Series run in the 2010s. It did not really matter to me that there was no stakes and people were traded back and forth every year so brand pride made no sense. I liked the concept. But this 2018 version of it was not great. They did so many people dirty that night.
I remember being at school hearing students who had no idea what wrestling was like talking about Becky the day after. Like girls were looking at pics being like yo this is the girl she’s like the coolest thing ever. Lightning in a bottle.
That Lesnar/bryan match may have been one of Lesnars career best. He actually went in there and told a story that actually made sense. Imagine if he did that every feud...besides the one feud with 'taker when they brawled across the arena 😂 that was a good build.
37:27 The face of Jeff Hardy says it all. 😂😂😂 Also I just realized the men's elimination tag team match wasn't the one with Kurt Angle, John Cena and Triple H.
"The Ascension, what the f-?" The most honest and genuine reflection of the crowd at the time as demonstrated by Jack.
All six of the people who are passionate Ascension fans are aghast that they were forgotten.
Yeah
I also forgot they were in the match and I saw this show when it happened.
This is by far my favorite series you guys do. Glad to see it return!
W4W
“Punches Becky in the Lynch” is an underrated moment
Say what you want about AEW now, but this PPV is proof that the wrestling world as a whole needed it
I do wonder how much of current WWE is because of AEW's debut vs how much is simply because of Vince being gone and Hunter finally getting full creative control.

It's like the Superkick. For some people it's just a transitional move while others can deliver it well enough to work as a finisher.
Recovering from surgery currently in alot of pain! Thanks for taking my mind off it even for an hour!!!
“An injured ‘The Miz’” made me chuckle. The “the” did all the heavy lifting.
Definitely my favorite series you guys do! Keep up the good work Jack and Luke!
The jobber is back with one of the strangest PPV'S in recent history , love these retrospective videos
The triple branded SS was awesome and I wish they'd do it again.
This show was just one of many around this point where the product felt so rotten that just looking at the pre show panel looking bored and wanting to be anywhere else apart from maybe Lawler he didnt know where he was

You and Fraser are doing God's work with this and the Worst PPV Ever series - thank you ❤

Finally was waiting for this episode..me and my brothers hated this ppv with a passion. Made us stop watching pre-shows because they don’t matter.
@29:00 tell me vince has a fetish and the sense of humor of a 11 year old without saying it.
Every on-camera personality has just got better and better at Cultaholic. Love you guys.
Hell yeah Jack, love this series thanks for bring back
That 2018 Dean Ambrose "vaccines and disgusting people and their sickness" gimmick aged well didn't it
Yeah cuz now he's using a similar gimmick in AEW. He said he hated how the WWE was in 2018/2019 but now in AEW he's saying on his promos he hates the company's direction like bruh that's what you were trying to leave

Thank god this series is back! By far my favorite, thanks Jack and Luke🖤
The best series on RUclips. Luke go ahead and drop the unedited ramblings please and thanks
JACK JACK JACK! I've commented on every other cultaholic video demanding a weirdest video and you listened. Made my turkey weekend 🦃
Hey Jack! I'd love to see you talk about Ring Ka King and Scott Steiner threatening the crowd !
I was just thinking to myself the other day that it had been awhile since we'd seen one of these Weirdest Shows videos. The wait was worth it, Jack is hilarious as always!
Jack's style of presentation is probably my favourite in wrestling. He's always good for a few genuine laughs
Oh it's about time this came back!! Been so long it's just the best series!!
Finally!!!! We been waiting
Been wait on this in my opinion this is the best series on the channel
I've been saving this all day and now it's 7am I just got home from work and now I can lightly chuckle as Jack retells the events of a big non-event in WWE history.
😄👍
I'm going to be smoking a bunch of purple, so there's that.😅
Jack my good friend I have been waiting for this for what seems like so long and you did great as always I think you have personally made me wanna watch wrestling again cheers mate 🫡
Also shout out to Luke for solid editing once again
God 5 on 5 elimination matches were so dreadful in 2017-2018
A shame as well, as 2016 had great elimination matches (especially the men’s match)
A Weirdest PPV video, on my birthday? Probably the best gift I've gotten today.
Great work from the former HeavyMetalWeightChampion Jack The Jobber, weird booking but it was a fun show.
FINALLY THE SERIES IS BACK
25:40
You never really think of Corbin as a huge wrestler, but dang, he's almost taller than Braun.
One thing to remember is that DVD's of the PPV's didn't have the preshow on them. So when they start talking about a Raw sweep, it's because home DVD wise, it would show that.
The return of the greatest video series!!!! Thanks jack🫡
One of the best series on cultaholic, just Jack being Jack! Up the Steve Blackman!
Finally the weirdest shows is back 😍
The preshow never counts! It's its own thing! It's not the show! Fun video haha
Of all the years of Survivor Series being the “T-Shirt Wars”, this is easily the most infuriating one
It's been six years, and I'm still waiting for WWE to finally cash in on the Flair we saw at this Survivor Series. So happy to see more of these
*we all watched and put up with this, it’s surreal to think about given how different WWE is now*
I will never forget this PPV. My husband and I reference it often.

I would like to see the horror show at extreme rules with Seth and Rey lol
God I've missed this series, up the Jack!
Anyone remember Danielson's promo in the merch area during Mania where he yelled 'I'M DOING IT FOR THE COW!' That was my favorite.
Nearly spat my food out at the "the acsencion what the F-" 🤣🤣🤣
Alexa bliss as captain makes this the best PPV
Omg I went to this show! This was a fever dream looking back now
"Rey Mysterio knows when to hit the 619 you big sweaty ball-bag" was my yearbook quote
"I'm not saying AEW doesn't have its ups and downs"
That's the other channel, Jack.
Had a thought while watching this that i probably watched the original coverage of this PPV when it happened
I love that the Drake reference happened, then he happened to start suing for "Not Like Us" the same day. Coincidence?...Yes
This was the first PPV I watched live after subscribing to the Network. Sad that Survivor Series will also be the last main-roster PPV that I'll watch on the Network (because who could forget NXT Deadline?)
Love this content more please
One of my favorite series on this channel
God damn I’ve missed Jack the jobber and this ridiculous series lol this just brightened my entire week.
Let us not forget that the DQ in Charlotte vs Ronda led to Jack & Sam losing the predictions contest for that show. BOOM! Do the hustle!

Brock Lesnar vs. Samoa Joe at Great Balls if Fire was probably the peak of WWE's interest in Joe. It was all downhill from there.
Lesnar/Bryan is the first non-Rumble wrestling match that I show non-wrestling fans, aside from Taker/Mankind HIAC
Good Jose impression Jack 😂💪

Ok so
I have to say
2018 hell in a cell and survivor series were awful but 2019 was worse
Gunther eliminated first in 2019
Has Jack ever done Breaking Point on whatever year it was on where all the matches were submission-type based or something?
