Michael I enjoy all your video's. I no longer watch Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video & cable. My best part with your videos that makes me LOL Is the comments Esme remarks and how you love & care for Esme & Simon. The second part is all your camping gears & Argo. But my most favorite is the beautiful view and the different seasons when you & Esme go camping, and the enjoyable music that I love when you share your location of the outstanding landscape. The sense of Peace & one with nature is so beautiful. You are outstanding and at times you make LOL. Thank you for an awesome videos.
Glad to see the installed track, with the cleats added there will be no stopping you. Nice upgrade and installment video. The more I watch the Argo in action make me want to trade in my Side By Side.
Brilliant, it looks like a hoot to drive. We used to use a nylon hammer when fitting the track pin so the pin ends didn't round off and for eye safety. Bring on the adventures :-)
Hi Dean - Yes that would have been the smart thing to do - but I could find my copper hammer. Thankfully the pins didn't need to much persuading and I managed to push most of them half way in by hand. 🍻
ya you did good ive learned alot as ive just bought an 2022 8x8 frontier 650 for the moose hunt no more winching where i go let,s hope not can,t wait to get it
The ice cleats are probably a must in the field with ice forming on sloping surfaces.Any grip you do have will likely be lost as any edges on the tread segments quickly get rounded off.I've seen videos of excavators sliding side ways out of control, and that has the potential to ruin your day.The tracks should prove durable enough as long as you can avoid prolonged use on gravel and other sharp rocks. The increased foot print should definitely give you the flotation you've needing. This modification should return the Argo back into the competent machine it is.Have a great weekend Michael And Esme!👍😃
Hi Dale - After my short trip down the alley, I could see how the tracks had little traction on hard pack. I haven't tried it with the ice cleats yet but I'm hoping that will help a bunch. My plan is to keep them on the snow and early spring melt (slush) then remove them to prolong the life. I'm told by the Argo guys the mud gets in the joints and pins, wearing the holes and making the tracks sloppy over time. I think the rubber tracks are more of an all year round deal - but we will see how she's goes! 😄. Best wishes Michael & Esme!
Thanks Bob - I've been itching to get out but work has gotten in the way 😄 Still waiting for my big RUclips salary to arrive - I might be waiting sometime - lol
I just bought the Aurora 950 Huntmaster. Used it 3 times this fall already. Amazing machine with tracks. Muskeg? Meh, Mud Holes? Right through the middle. Does a great job getting Moose out of the bush too.
Michael, I hope you will be taking a couple of spare rods, bushes and grub screws with you on your next trip, looking forward to your next excursion Robin.
Hi Robin - Yup - got the spares already in the under seat compartment 😉 along with spare master links, tools, chain lube, tire repair kit and other bits and bobs to keep me trucking!
Hi Tony - Yup, I've got 23HP but when I did my little test it didn't seem to affect the acceleration or load the engine. I've been told the plastic tracks put much less strain on the drive line that the rubber tracks.
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Hi Michael, yes that could be right. But probably when you go strait ahead, in a bend I am not sure. But I am no expert of cause.
Non-permanent Loctite on the set screws would keep one from losing them in the field. Carry extra pins, set screws and locking collars, too. Perhaps snowshoes as a last ditch backup might save you also.
Hi Tom - Yup did exactly that - everything blue loctite - spare pins, bushing and set screws already stowed in the under seat compartment. And snow shoes are a must! If you want to get out in one piece incase of trouble!
I think they can be used all year round but I won't be doing so. It's easier on the machine without them and I'd prefer to use them for snow and the spring melt to make them last longer. I eventually sold the P500 BUT my friend just bought a 2018 one in red - so you will be seeing that on some camping videos come spring!
nice unit...I am thinking of buying a used 6x6... any advice for me? how much were those tracks... what year is your unit?also should I stay away from the older units like 2000 and under? thanks, Gary
Hi Gary - My unit is a Frontier 700 - 2018 model and there are lots of upgrades from the earlier years, like the offset rims, fuel injection and bilge pump as standard. The average life of a set of chains is around 300 hours and the parts are not cheap for new chains, bearing, shafts etc. If you buy second hand look for an Admiral transmission (HDI) model with low hours and fuel injection. The carburetor models are more troublesome. For tracks, the plastic ones are over $2K CAD and rubber ones over $4k CAD - so its not cheap. If you are mechanically inclined fixing up an older Agro can be a fun project - but do your home work on spare parts pricing. Hope that helps!
yes thanks so much...I did see a maxx 11 for 3500.00 and it sold pretty fast...it was an older one... I think I will just buy new...I am very mechanically inclined but I prefer not a lot of fixing right now... my budget is 15,000 I am from mn. if I travel to Canada get I gat a better deal... I would make a fishing trip out of it this summer anyway... I will call that dealer and see what they can do for me.. thanks, Gary
Nice. One question: why don’t you deflate tire first, then install track, and then inflate tires to proper pressure? In this case you don’t have to fight with straps.
Hi John - I'm hoping the 18" wide tracks will float me over the snow too. Wont fit in the truck now 😔 but I have loaned a trailer from a. buddy for now. Hoping to pick up a new trailer next week.
These tracks are part-time tracks for snow and mud. In the water they provide very little propulsion. For full time tracks look at the Argo rubber tracks or the Escargo type ones! 👍
Hi Mark, I debated which tracks to install for many months. Here is my thought process. I wanted Argo branded tracks for the warranty with the machine, installing 3rd party tracks might have caused issues. I only plan to run the tracks in the snow and spring melt (no mudding). The cost of the 18" super tracks was 2.5 x less than the rubber. I can extend the tracks if I switch up to an 8x8 by adding more segments. Plastic tracks are easier on the machine than rubber tracks. Rubber tracks run for long periods half the life of the chains. Performance on snow with plastic and rubber are comparable (so I'm told). I would have liked to install the Escargo tracks but I got no response from the Canadian manufacturer 🤔. Time will tell if I chose wisely but if they don't work out I can always sell them and get new ones.
TEO: sound like you did your homework. Thanks for the reply. I always worry about extreme cold with plastic stuff like that. Worst case, you bust a track in the middle of nowhere, the wheels would likely get you out -just not uber deep snow. Thanks for sharing your thinking on this. It’s very helpful and interesting. Cheers.
Its the 700 model so the 749cc 23 HP - You will need at least that to drive tracks in the Argo. The 18HP doesn't have the power and is also carbureted and not fuel injection!
Hi Richard - every last one of them! Blue loctite is called for in the manual. Those set screws are pivotal (see what I did there?!) to stop the whole thing from coming apart.
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors excellent, thats exactly what i was thinking. I priced an Argo several years ago, very nice machines. I will be cheering you on from my old snowshoes:) best of luck to you.

Thanks RatdogDRB - I know, no Esme - She gets bored watching me in the shop - 🐶👸 - I'm half way through the frame build too - but that can wait until I have more time!
Looks awesome! Can’t wait to see them in action. Thinking about flipping the tires around. Does it make more sense to flip the around (I understand the offset) on one side? Or move them around to the other side (and flip them) so that the treat is still in a “forward” direction, and you have the benefit of the offset? Just a thought.
Good point - I flipped them around and then to the other side so the tires face the same way as before (if that makes sense). I was told by one of the Argo guys the tires actually bite better in reverse but they are fitted the normal way for swimming. I'm kinda tempted to buy 6x 25" mud lites for the summer. Traction would be much better! 👍
Hi Marcomcla - The tracks cost around $2000 CAD - I'm sure the Argo dealers in the UK would sell them. Shipping might be expensive as they are pretty big.
Hi Bob - the tires are the stock 24x10-8's but I was thinking of changing them for the summer to the 25" ones. I've heard they are much better. Unfortunately I ended up selling the P500 but my friend bought a new 2018 one in red a few months ago, so there will still be some P500 content in the future!
Now that you have had the tracks on for a while are there any conditions when you would rather not have them? Oh, one more. Are the tracks as good in the water? Very entertaining videos Sir!
Hi BDWillis - I remove the tracks as soon as the snow has gone - The machine runs better on tires during normal trail conditions. The tracks are terrible in the water - very little propulsion. I have lots more videos showing track use with the Argo if you are interested! The rubber tracks maybe better but I have no reference point. Hope that helps!
Great video, I understand why u didn’t want to deflate the tires because u already had them pressured up and measured.. that’s the way I do them all the time. You definitely will need ice cleats. Take care
I’ve had Argos all my life six wheeler and eight wheelers and the conclusion i’ came to was the eight wheeler. I know it’s lot more expensive but for carrying gear and better in water they’re hard to beat. I love your videos especially the different types of gear, sleeping bags and tents you use. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait for the hunting season .
Cant wait to see it in action! Out of curiosity, do you do any fishing? The sky is the limit with that thing. I bet you could find some nearly untapped lakes. Just a thought. Maybe something to try this spring/summer?
Hi John - I love to fish. This is one of the other Argo selling points for me. Head out to some remote area and be able to drive in the lake and catch dinner. I really enjoy fly fishing but I might do a trip ice fishing before spring arrives.
Did you really felt the need for those tracks or did you bought them just for the kick? To my eyes, being a 6x6, the tyres would be more then enough to take you anywhere.
Well Rui - go back a few videos and see why I need the tracks 😄 The snow in Albert can get very deep, especially in the open areas. You can't ride anything here unless its has tracks in winter.

Thats what the instructions said but I thought I'd see how close it was before deflating and re-inflating. It wasn't much of a squeeze to get them to mate up.
I'm hoping it will work as I well as I think - and yes it was a pretty dull job. The Argo dealer wants 6 hours labor to do this job @ $150 p/h 🤔 - yea.....no.
LOL.... it's like driving on a magic carpet on snow pack roads and ice without the cleats.... Interesting that you flips the rims side, for more space.....
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Smallest at the front, then largerst, second largest and then second smallest at the rear. (according to all the instructions I read) But I could be misinterpreting the instructions. As for my first comment, i was assuming the argo in the video had beadlock with offset rims. The tread pattern needs to stay in the same direction. Thats why ppl would simply put them to the other side of the machine. Once again, thats what Ive read. No actual experience with tracks yet.lol Hopefully soon though.
Meanwhile in Russia crazy Lars buys himself a tracked troop carrier......just wait for the next installment when Michael and Esme up the ante and buy a Panzer tank..... ;-)

LOL.... it's like driving on a magic carpet on snow pack roads and ice without the cleats.... Interesting that you flips the rims side, for more space.....
Yes - its was fun 😄 lots of drifting! Argo used to have spaces to off set the wheels before the off-set rims. Its much simpler now!
My luck, I would forget to put the set bushing on, then have to knock it back out again. LOL
I was thinking the same thing! Your brain goes to sleep after the first 40 segments!
let the air out of the tyres and join track. Then pump the tyres up to specs. Simple. Kiss principle.
Great tip Roddie 👍
no need to turn your tires around, just put them in the same spot but on the opposite side of the machine
You have to size them as per the instructions with the largest at the rear as I recall. Its a while ago now 😄
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Smallest at the front, then largerst, second largest and then second smallest at the rear.
Now you go.
Yep - hopefully a new video soon!
Meanwhile in Russia crazy Lars buys himself a tracked troop carrier......just wait for the next installment when Michael and Esme up the ante and buy a Panzer tank..... ;-)
LOL - I saw the video - Good for Lars! However, I do think my solution is a little more practical and maneuverable. 😄 I'm sure he will be putting that thing to many uses, not just travelling in the woods. Remote recovery work, taking hunters out to camps, recovering all that scrap steel - the list goes on! Looking forward to the next video for sure!
Cool
👍
Yay not as much shoveling now.
Yup - Almost wants me to make a plough 🤔
what I wouldn't give to be able to work that fast.
Me too! :D more time for camping!
Muhteşem
Teşekkür ederim!
👍👍 Will Argo be a protagonist on the next video? LOL
Ohhh yea!
I know approximately where you are and also wanting to go with or it’s competitor. Wouldn’t mind chatting in person. If interested let me know
Hey Roy - Sure shoot me an email via my about page if you want to ask some detailed questions.
Fly me over and i will give you a hand.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏼
Hahaha! 👍
Sure you didn’t just pop back home and grab a FV432?
LOL - I would prefer a Hagglund BV-206 - Those things are amazing.
The Emporium Outdoors Well ... yeah,I’d love one of those, but at 30k BP, which is around $55K ... I think my wife would kill me ... or it would have to be comfortable as I’d likely need to sleep in it for the rest of my short life ;)
@@RichardT2112 LOL - but what a life! 😄
