I like the idea but having the plug on the back of the meter you can't use it lying flat anymore. It reminds me of Apple's wireless mouse which you couldn't use while charging 😅

Nice simple mod, you could drop the voltage from 5 V to 4.3V by putting a diode in series, but agree with you, 0.5V won't make much of a difference.
