    Hi, great video! I've noticed that you've removed bracket from inner body that align film. Is that so? Also did you removed shutter from the camera as it looks like there is no frame synchronisation mechanism

    • @kassenbon
      @kassenbon 28 дней назад

      Thanks! Indeed, the bracket is removed so that the sensor could be moved closer to the lens. Alternatively, the lens could also be moved further inwards. But I did not do that because I didn't want to loose the factory focus setting of my camera. The shutter wheel is indeed disengaged. For my camera model it was very easy, I just had to bend the gear of it a little bit so that it disengages and doesn't move anymore.

      @@kassenbon Thanks for your answer. I've been thinking to achieve results with minimum modification of the camera as I like the idea to put film cartridge and it would work anytime.

    0:50 Yeah early MP3 players had very limited storage. Now you can have MP3 payers the size of a smart watch with hundreds of GBs of storage. 3:07 I remember movies that had scenes like that, one movie in particular where they showed a CD the size of a coin. One format that I wish was commercially successful is the Dataplay players and discs. Those discs come the closest to the size of a coin. 5:55 I don't think this mini player is pointless because it is something I've wanted for a long time. I have a Panasonic SL-J900 (plays audio & MP3 CDs) and I wish there was a modern mini version of it, or even a standard size modern version of it. 7:19 Completely agree with you. It sucks to have you music enjoyment interrupted by others things going on with your smartphone. 7:26 That area is beautiful. I would love a place like that around here to relax and run around. I've been wanted something portable player like the Panasonic SL-J900 that has some additional features, like VCD, XVCD, SVCD, XSVCD, cDVD, DVD playback with mini HDMI out, as well as a touch screen + physical buttons that let's you view/interact with music, CD Text, CD+G, CD+EG, Photo, lyrics, mp3, mp4, ect...

    8cm BRs were extremely rare. There was only one line of camcorders that ever used them by Hitachi, and only one of the three models ever made it outside of Japan. They very quickly moved onto a model that used a full 12cm burner via eSATA, then just gave up and went onwards to the HDD camcorder era. I absolutely ADORE this. Great work. I would love one of these myself! :)

    Does that mean it would be capable of playing DVD-Audio, Blu-Ray Audio natively ? Possibly even able to read (& decode) DSD off an SACD? It's impossible to find a portable high res optical player, but I'd buy one today...

    • @kassenbon
      @kassenbon Месяц назад

      In theory this should be possible. Only issue is that the codec does not support high res audio. Bus this could likely be solved by using an external one. In fact the player could even play back Blu-ray video since it has all that is needed already integrated. But I didn't route the video signal to the outside because I wanted it to be audio only.

    I had this exact idea a few years ago as a novelty but I figured mini DVDs would be better since I couldn't figure out whether mini blu rays even existed since the 8cm format mostly became a thing that only existed for camcorders and by the time blu ray was out everything was moving to sd cards, and I also wasn't quite sure how to go about modifying the drives, very cool to see you making such a thing a reality!

    I have a couple Philips ESP411's and a 431 that is capable of MP3 CD playback. I love them, I have close to a hundred Japanese CD singles from the late 80's to 90's that are 8cm in size. I got my players during a time where the prices were fair. Now it's hard to find one under $150 because not many people owned them or simply threw them away when they didn't need them anymore. It's pretty awesome to see one that is DIY!

Blu ray drives circa 2006-2009 would have made it cost at least 200€ so at that price they could either put in small hdd like ipods or even an array of let's say 4 SD cards, 2-4GB each. So it can read and write full 12cm BDs when fully opened or is there not enough space for the laser head to travel ? Because if it could, it would be the coolest external bd drive ever. Also it could have a setting to backup everything contained on the disk automatically onto the microsd without the use of computer (i knows its not ideal when the microsd is used for the OS ) ... that could surely find its use :D Also I used to have an mp3 discman :D 700MB of mp3s is quite a lot . the main problem is any scratch = half a song gone when on a wav cd it wouldve been 1-2 second skip :D :D It is gonna be even worse with a BD if you also play mp3s :D

    • @kassenbon
      @kassenbon Месяц назад

      True, it can spin a 12cm disc but the laser can only travel to 8cm. This was necessary to make the drive as small as possible. But indeed, that would make for a cool external drive. Reminds me of one of these Sony players where the disc was exposed.

    It would be cool if you supported SACD format audio. 8gb is a lot more than an album at cd quality, but SACD is like 23 minutes per gigabyte (according to wikipedia), so you could store like 3 hours. That fits a lot better with the analog workflow of swapping albums, and would give you an actual reason to have 8gb discs.
