You SAVED my life with this!!! My garage door is low and I have broken my antenna 3 times already and always paid the dealership to fix. I was so annoyed after it happened again today I called Infiniti and they said that they could not replace the antenna assembly on my 2014 QX60 with the Sharkfin assembly. After watching your video I was able to find what I needed to purchase the Sharkfin cover and was able to pull out the stem screw which had busted off inside the female receptacle on the antenna base. I also found another video and was able to get into my headliner to double ckeck all wires and connections. SUPER HELPFUL!!! Thank you!!! 😊😊😊😊😊
Oh my gosh - THANK YOU! I am looking for a Rogue and the tall antenna is an absolute dealbreaker for me - I can't load my kayak into a saddle rack with the stupid thing in the way! Since it's a 52 pound boat a J holder is not an option and I was near TEARS as every SUV on the market has these stupid antennas...I had no idea it is so simple to swap out for a low profile shark fin! Now I know it's possible, I can FINALLY get out of my stupid Jeep Compass and into a vehicle that I like and accommodates my summer lifestyle!
Hey, I've been searching around RUclips and not really having much luck, but have you had an issue where the rubber seals underneath the plastic part of the roof rails come loose? If not, how would I go about fixing it without having to go to a dealer?
dial2fast, thanks for your link to the nissan/infiniti shark fin. Looking at other replacement vids I was concerned about the replacement fin fitting over the antenna housing. Your link did the trick, Thanks! EX35 2010
I have a 2017 Pathfinder. Is the standard antenna just for Satellite or for AM/FM/Sat? What is your long term review/opinion? Reception about equal for AM/FM and Sat? Many sites today say it increases reception. Did the paint hold up? Fade or chipping? Did the tape hold up or did the fin come off? Would you do it again on a new car?
The rubber pole antenna is for sat (XM) only. The AM/FM antenna is integrated into the window. So this shark fin does not affect AM/FM reception. Paint is holding up fine, and same for double sided tape.
Wrong, only the AM antenna is on the window. The FM antenna is the mast, the SiriusXM antenna is in the base of the roof mount antenna. Also, you can buy direct, and they custom paint them here: shop.visualgarage.com/
@@nordicusmaximus I want to try this but first i'm trying to find an oem where I can get a real fin that connects to the wiring I have no problem Dropping the headliner at the rear being that I am mechanically inclined do you have any website suggestions, I called Nissan and the guy had no idea what I was talking about in part Department
i had problems as i fixed that as you should of pointed the wire terminal straight up pointing to the front of the vehicle that can fix your reception problem but i went i wrapped a scrap piece of 14 guage solid copper wire that span the length of the shark fin stuck it inside connected the existing antenna lead with a twist on wire nut it worked great as i wrapped the solid copper wire into a coil using a screwdriver shaft that span the antenna and the terminal i mentioned earlier pointing foreward fixed the reception problem those parts you can get at a hardware store. to fit inside the antenna.
I would use an hair dryer to heat up the 3m tape nice and warm before applying to ur Roof. U did great Job on the Video but U should Use an Hair dryer before doing it ! its going to Peel off for sure.
If you are truly using 3M VHB double sided tape, it only requires above 10C temperature. The key is to clean/prep the surface area very well or else it might not adhere properly. Car manufacturers use these 3M tapes everyday to attach badges and trims, and they don't heat the surface. Also I have seen many fake 3M double sided tapes from China with the red backing and those things are junk. Thanks for your comment!
The white is not tri coat and without the metallic flake. Also it's not exact match but the only way to get exact match is get it professionally painted.
Hi, this review comes from Holland, with an European car: Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4. I bought my fin at Ali Express a few months ago, but installed it today. Today was a fine weather day, with temps like 25 degrees, so I did not need a hair dryer. Installation was easy: p of c. Only: the surface of the fin is flat and that of the car roof is not. Even after pressing long time there was some space between the fin and the roof. Perhaps some kit? But... after turning on the radio, the FM reception was gone! So I had to replace the antenna :( It was a fun day, but the roof of my car looks the same as yesterday :)
I have broken my antenna as well on a 17 equinox getting out of the garage forgot my antenna was taller than my roof racks.... well Sirius xm still works without the antenna. That pole only makes reception easier to grab. But my FM radio barely has any signal now...
That's because the mast you broke off is for the FM radio, the SiriusXM antenna is still in the base, and has nothing to do with the mast portion. Just like many other commenters on this thread, he is only affecting the FM reception with the white sharkfin base. The ring terminal he screws into the hole on the base ONLY affects the FM/AM reception. The SiriusXM portion is still all enclosed inside the black factory base, JUST like your Equinox is. There are 2 separate cables inside the base that run forward to the radio, one cable dedicated to FM/AM reception, one dedicated to SiriusXM reception.
@@nordicusmaximus quick question, I thought you mentioned that the front antenna in the glass was for a.m.. that being the case why would there be another am wire going back to the fin?
Darn I was about to add this to my to buy list along with other parts you have mentioned. This fin might not fit my '17 Pathfinder because my moonroofless sv trim PF has two groves surrounding the stock antenna. This fin might not rest flat and completely sealed because of those grooves. Oh wait they state dimensions! 3.7" wide I better get to measuring!
You didn't show in your video if your AM FM reception changed considering that's what the antenna you removed was for. The actual XM radio antenna is under the black base that you covered up with the new white shark fin base.
No sir, the AM/FM antenna is on the window. The top satellite antenna is only for XM. My AM/FM radio works fine. Also direct from Nissan service manual: Radio signal received by window antenna. As for the black base of the roof antenna, the service manual list that part as: Antenna base (satellite antenna)
I'd love one but can find it in Nitro-green...which is odd as I've seen other nitro green vehicles with shark fins. I did hear that there was a decrease in antennae reception on other forums but can't confirm.

I believe this should fit over my 2012 fx 35 antenna as well. Looks like the same size

I literally was looking into this for kayak reasons too! Very grateful for this video!
On star and gps navigation system? How’s that working? Since fm and am radio and xm radio did work. Any reviews on gps and on star?
Thanks for making this video, i was going to ask Nissan about a new antenna. They probably would've charged a arm and leg to do this, thanks again
You are very welcome. Glad you found my video helpful.
Did the reception improve or greatly improved. My 2015 nissan rogue sv has horrible reception
Is this the same process with a GMC Arcadia ??
Does this also work for gen 1 Leaf? Really want to get rid of the space missile on top of this thing.
You actually removed the FM antenna. XM radio uses the black base that the old antenna screwed into. You should check FM to see how it sounds.

How has the paint stood up on the antenna. I have read reviews about paint chipping.
No problem with the paint. Being so high up, there is nothing to hit it to make the paint chip.
Does this improve xm reception?
Looks perfect too for my Nissan nivara. Thx wonderful

Do you still receive DAB OK?
I'm about to order one of these, it's been 5 years has it held on pretty good or how long did it last thanks in advance
Still on my car.
@@dial2fast can't ask for no better than that, have you thought about getting it off and putting a fresh 3M on it?
how would a person change from a shark fin antenna to the rubber pole type or is that even possible?
How close is the white antenna color compared to the Pathfinders Pearl White TriCoat?

Can I do that for my 2007 FX35 infinity?

Jeff Phillips my guess is he barley get reception
Will it work for a 2016 rogue?
Yes it should with that generation of Nissan.
How could I get one those antenna what’s the number 2014 Nissan Rogue
Check the links in the video.
Great vid, thank you. I was just asking about this swap out earlier today. Had no idea is is soooooo simple. Again, thanks.👏👍🏼
Glad you found my video helpful. Cheers!
Hey, did your reception improved or stayed the same with the new antenna?
Stay the same
Wow! Definitely gonna do this to mine!
What if the connector part of the antenna breaks can i replace the whole antenna part
You can replace the whole antenna but that usually requires accessing the nut under the antenna behind the headliner.
Awesome find bro, thanks so much!!!!
is this fit 2015 nissan rogue?
Thank you
You can guide me from the position of the radio antenna in Honda Odyssey
Looks way better 👍

Where can I get one just like yours?

Where can I buy this antenna ?
Links in description.
wife just broke the old antenna trying to get in the garage.
Jeez that OEM fin looks hideous. What was nissan thinking lol. Didn't know aftermarket makes fins like that.
Sirius XM Antenna ? that's you car antenna for fm radio
FM antenna built into side window.
dead link
Thanks for letting me know. I have updated the link: amzn.to/2NieqZU
did you really need the template? you could of used a sharpie or dry erase marker and a ruler. not rocket science
You don't have to have a template. Just showing one way of installing this. Appreciate your comment!
useless mod you could just bought a stubbie antenna on amazon or ebay this shark antenna looks ugly af yo
Joe Gotti idget.
That's stupid! Why would you put it over an existing antenna? That big old gaudy shark fin looking like it ate another antenna.
If you carry kayaks or surfboards the rigid pole gets in the way
Yup, my luggage carrier bends my antenna pretty badly on my 2010 FX35
