Kiwi here: Whilst there is a great deal about the England side to be excited about (who wouldn't want Atkinson, Carse, Bethel and Smith in your side, and let's not forget the sublime Joe Root?), my concern for England is that New Zealand flattered them in the first test by dropping so many catches. Obviously it's not possible to say that NZ would have won the game had those catches been taken. But England, despite deservedly winning the series, needs to take them into consideration when evaluating the series and their performance.

@lingolarker9318 Australia are likely to be more vulnerable next year than they have been in a while. Khawaja is in his late 30's, the opener pool is shallow and the best prospects are still young and building their game, and there is an even chance Australia will need to blood a less experienced quick sometime during the series. Still tough competition, but the chinks in their armour may be wider than in recent years.

Yea they have lost the game by big margin but they have won the series against a team which ended india home streak
The same bowling lineup destroyed india in india and england batted extraordinary in first 2 match
Yea there have been moments where england had lost the match but still they won in new Zealand which is A quite remarkable Achievement
After the end of T20 Wc this year, England needed to won 12 match of 12 to qualify for wtc final i never expected them to win all 12

If Stokes can't bowl, he's not a good enough batsman to keep his place in the team. Nasser says that Crawley is out of form, but his career average is 30. That's a long time to be out of form. He also underplayed how badly England were outplayed. They won the toss and sent NZ in under perfect seam bowling conditions, but still managed to lose by 423 runs. It's time that England went back to playing proper cricket.

England are a better team than the WTC standings show but there are too many ifs, buts and maybes. The batting has too many players that can strike the ball but can not build an innings and are essentially useless against spin. The bowling looks promising with Atkinson and Carse but neither has the x factor of someone like Archer, or even Saqib who doesn't even have a red ball contract. There isn't a world class spin option and Stokes is now more liability than match winner.

As we see that the test match requires a tenacity of purpose with a sole aim of undoing the opponent's strategy and taking forward the team to the winning podium. Then that be the case the team should learn the art of manuring through the situation and come out successful. Interesting interview. Crawley does not have the technique to play top class fast seam or swing bowling. Playing across his front pad is a dream for any top notch quickie. Pope needs to realise that Test Cricket is not a 20/20 slog. Ben Stokes has hardly shone with bat or ball since he became team skipper...a rare explosive performance is no substitute for consistency with bat and ball. He needs to provide some backbone to the middle order and some accurate probing bowling in support of the front line attack. Do or die is not a five day game mindset that works.
Joe Root...head and shoulders above everyone else in technique and mindset. He needs a number five that can support him, much in the way that Ken Barrington provided for the England team in the sixties.
As Nassar said, being bowled out for 143 on a decent batting wicket simply does not cut the mustard.

I find it interesting that England will take a punt on young players but are reluctant when Stokes is unavailable to try a seam bowling all rounder.
When Stokes was injured it definitely upsets the balance of the side, there's a few guys who could get a go but they seem reluctant to have a look for some reason.
Bashir bowled absolute dross this test, but he's young and that inconsistent performance is part and parcel of young players.
I feel sorry for Leach he's had rotten luck with injury and despite out bowling Bashir last year they played together he's still out.
I think you should play your beat team, Pope looked good behind the stumps and ironically rather than detract from his batting it's almost given him something that seems to stop him overthinking his batting and is playing more freely because he knows even if he fails with the bat he's able to contribute.

Bottom line it's only a game; get over it. These people are only human and no sportsperson on earth gets things right all the time. The home side are intitled to Win one by playing well. If the England players go for their shots and it goes well everyone's applauding, then the reverse if it doesn't. If it's the style of play and you win more than you lose that's fair enough. Like i said it's only a game, if it's more han that to you. Get over yourselves or give yourself a good talking to in the mirror.

It is time Stokes step aside as captain. He cost the England series in Pakistan and earlier in India.

Australia are going to destroy this side with the way they play. NZ had Southee and were bowling with 2 seamers, a part time spinner. If you had 4 seamers bowling 140k +, England are going to have alot of 3 day tests in Australia

@@henryburton6529 Yes, they could play better. England were nowhere near their best in Hamilton. If they play like they did in Wellington they will be more competitive. The trick is to be at their best on the first day so they're not playing catchup for the rest of the match.
