Thank you for this video. Very interesting ! It would be wonderful if you could expand on this topic and make it a sort of miniseries, featuring each of these business owners, one by one, and getting a more in depth interview with each of them. It would be so cool to find out what inspired them to move to Iceland; what obstacles they encountered while establishing their businesses, and how they overcame them , etc . I am always awed by people like you, who find the courage to uproot themselves and choose to get immersed in a new culture and learn to love and appreciate it.

I saw your interwiev with an other woman from the US who was very frustrated for not getting residence permit. I think you dont realize you came across as entitled. I cant get visa in the US or any other nation I apply to for visa to work and stay as long as I want. As a Norwegian I can move to Scandinavian countries but other than that I have no privilege, no rights to move to US and I know that. If I travel I know there are rules I have to follow. I find it very rude to bash a country for having immigration laws. In Iceland, one of the first, if not the first democratic state based on the rule of law was implementet. In our time we have mass migration on almost every continent and we have to obide by the nations law even if we are denied visa. The ranting about how wrong you are treated do not work to manipulate me to feel sorry for you. If you want to become Islandic, get an education Island need. Or train to be an expert in a field where you can get a work visa. I would love to move to Hawaii but as a foreigner I need one million dollar, at least in the bank and I need to proove I will start a buisness and hire locals and so on. Wonder what you would say if Island demanded that from you? Every country with appeal to foreigners are making immigrant laws harder and way more expensive after covid and the emerging work from home, remote workers turned into nomads working globally and living globally. Countries takes advantage of the influx of relative well off international workers and want a slike of the cake this foreigners are eating. Island is a small and demografic voulnerable. People from distant continents cant demand to be given citizenship.

I was a bit surprised at this post, until I reflected on it. Then I realized that being black in a community like Iceland has it's set of unique challenges, even simple things like suitable hair products. I count myself fortunate to live in a small community that is free of racism or nationalism - to the best of my knowledge. I realize there will always be some ignorant or hateful arseholes in every community, but if the community as a whole ignores them they are, in effect, pissing into the wind.

Hello Jewels, thank you for sharing your journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland. My heart is filled with joyful envy as I reminisce about my own connection to that magical place. My first visit to Iceland was in 2009 for a conference, and the moment I set foot on its sacred ground, I was enchanted. The land called me back five more times, not only to bask in its beauty but also to conduct workshops on recycling (I am also a designer with a focus on Sustainability), sharing my passion for preserving this Earth we all cherish.
In 2012, my travels paused as my son, my greatest blessing, made his grand entrance into my life. Although I haven’t returned since, my love for Iceland never waned.
I wasn’t aware of the presence of Black-owned businesses in Iceland, except for Kafe Haiti, I'm not sure if it's still open. It warms my heart to see how the place has evolved and grown. I'm planning to return with my son soon, to share with him the beauty and spirit of a land that holds such a special place in my heart.
Thank you for sharing your light with us. I look forward to the day our paths cross in that wondrous land. Sending you love, light, and blessings.

I love this video!!! Thank you for showing Black-owned business in Iceland. I'm in Washington, DC, but love to support Black-owned businesses from all over. I wonder if they ship some items? I will look up Gracelandic. Thanks Jewells!! 🤗

In 1986 when I left Iceland their was only one black lady who had become a citizen. At least she told me she was the first. She was from Nigeria . Nice to see how many new businesses are run ,by people of color.
