Oh Tyrone Power.....the most beautiful man I've ever seen, period. Poor Suzie should have steered clear of a man already taken, no matter how rich or drop dead gorgeous he was. Sasse Nash: Hello! Yes, it is a shame! But I am happy, too, because I could see the movie "Tom Brown of Culver" for first time in my life! No, I don't have "Northern Frontier", and I never saw it. But I have read that it is just the same problem like it has been with "Flirtation Walk". It is very difficult to see Tyrone!! I will try to buy it in my country or in Spain. Hello, Linda! Could you please tell me if our beloved Tyrone Power acted, as an extra, in the movie: "School for Wives" (1925), with Conway Tearle and Sigrid Holmquist. And directed by Victor Halperin? Because I read it somewhere and I think it's not true. I would appreciate it if you remove this doubt, if you know it. From now, thank you very much and see you soon. Alicia. :)

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm glad someone uploaded this movie ("Ladies in Love") to this conveniently accessed video platform. The biggest downside, for me, is the poor sound quality. ~ much harder to enjoy a lighthearted romp like this if a person has to frequently strain to simply understand what is being said! I've only watched part of it so far; due to the sound issue. First impression is that I like Janet Gaynor's character the best. Also that it will be well worth watching this version of the movie anyway, despite the poor audio quality. Overall, I appreciate people sharing their old movies with others. Bad sound just sometimes goes along with obscure movies (and other older media) being shown in a medium they weren't actually designed for. :)

I don't agree with you. I watched him in several films like the biography on Banjamin Franklin etc he was too marvellous for any role. He had a very soothing persona that cannot be noticed when Tyrone Power was on screen. But he was a very charming man and simply honest and sincere to his craft. That looks on every screen wherever he worked. He mostly played the roles of sceintists on screen. He had such a great charisma that no film critic will ever forget him.

Absolutely charming film about the trials and tribulations of love. All of the ladies were wonderful and the sweetest one achieved great happiness. I was really struck by how much a current actress, Caitriona Balfe, of the T.V. series Outlander, reminded me of Loretta Young. Both actresses have such beautiful faces. I really enjoyed the glamour of this movie. Thank you for posting.

He had a cameo in a Simone Simon (Marie Armand= Yuli's and John's little party crasher) in Girls' Dormitory as Marie Claudel (1936). He was cute as a button. :D
Iheartagoodstory that’s when he was first noticed by the movie going public and the demand was on for more TP and the studios rushed to meet that demand. I’m a big Simone Simon fan but she always gets stuck with someone old enough to be her grandpa.
Robert Hiini: Tyrone Power was never boyfriend of Loretta Young. They were friends until he died. (As I read in a biography written by Fred Lawrence Guiles: "Tyrone Power, the last idol" (1979).
This is very similar to the 50's film "How to Marry a Millionaire" with Betty Grable, Lauren Bacall and Marilyn Monroe. None of the men were as beautiful as Tyrone. The name Tyrone uses Karl Lányi is a variation of an actual aristocrat of the Austro Hungarian Empire but I cannot remember his full name. Tyrone certainly looks like a prince.
HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE was an unofficial remake of THE GREEKS HAD A WORD FOR THEM(1932), and I'm sure this is one as well. Fox loved remakes, and the story was also used in MOON OVER MIAMI(1941), and I think they even did a 60s version.
Three Coins In A Fountain, Three Blind Mice, The Pleasure Seekers, Three Little Girls in Blue - there were different credited sources, but the story was 3 girls, one big apartment, lets all find husbands. Fox kept making this film with little variations. There were the show biz variations too: Sally, Irene and Mary, Valley of the Dolls.
I realized that's what this is similar to "How to Marry a Millionaire" like the one back in the 50s except this is an earlier version of the late 30s or early 40s.
***** Simone Simon's character, Marie Armand, was supposed to be about 17 years old, I think, maybe 19, but not more. But Simone Simon was actually 26 years old at the time - and she had been appearing in movies since 1931. LADIES IN LOVE was the second film which she made in the U.S.A. after her arrival in Hollywood in 1936; the first, made earlier in 1936, was, appropriately enough, titled GIRLS' DORMITORY. Simone Simon starred in movies in the U.S.A. from 1936 to 1938 and from 1940 to 1944; her final Hollywood film was MADEMOISELLE FIFI (directed by Robert Wise) at RKO. Then she returned to Europe for good after the end of World War II, and made 10-11 more movies in France, England, Italy, and West Germany, mostly in the decade between 1946 and 1956.
Susie wishes for a hat shop. Yoli wishes for a rich man to marry. Martha wishes for a family. "Be careful what you wish for you just might get it." There is also another quote that is also featured in this film "To thine own self be true." Everyone in this film doesn't know themselves or each other.
john buchinsky Some men too....did you get one "Dear John..." letter too many? Awwhh, broken hearted and disillusioned ....never mind, most of us have been there. Remember, it's better to have loved and lost, than never having loved at all!

Tyron Powers...Ladies in Love, great movie trying to translate love. The choices we make, are they right or wrong, you only have one choice and once you let the good ones go, you lose. Find out years later could have, should have...then it's much too late, to revile your true feelings...don't be fools and do all in your Power to keep what love you find, because it;s hard to find the real thing, much harder to know you had it and lost it. Give it your all with no regrets...Love is worth more then all the MONEY IN THE WORLD, because nothing can Buy IT!

Why do people feel they have the right to have every bit of personal information about another person? Additionally, why do people feel it is necessary to provide this information?
Katherine Byron its not really a matter of "having the right" to comment or discuss the alleged sexual preferences of legendary actors like grant & powers, relevant or not (and i agree its of no relevance). Its more so a matter of poor taste, which says alot more about the person making the remark than anything else and besides who cares, gay/bi or not- what an actor!
Thank you uploaders for this film. I read the comments below and I don't understand how God has come into the picture and taken over what is suppose to be comments on a film. I nearly didn't watch it because of the 'God' stuff, but glad I did, always interesting to see how people were at another time and their ways.
Janet Gaynor was a big star in the late twenties and early thirties with hits like Seventh Heaven (1927) and State Fair (1933), but by the late 30s her popularity was already on the wane (her last starring vehicle was the original 1937 version of A Star Is Born)
Too bad Tyrone Power didn't end up with Loretta Young--she was really so pretty and he was so goodlooking. Power lost his looks early on--I could tell from some of TV that he made in the 50s that are shown on TV.
Christine Dunn If you look closely at his face in Razor's Edge, during Larry Darrell's wondering years, he looked better with a short beard. I don't know why every guy had to have a clean shaven face, back then. Sometimes, it ruined their looks. (Shrugs) What can one do?
the great tyrone power.0:20:15 look at that profile, the best looking male actor of his time, nobody is handsomer than him. this is.his 4th film, in 3 years would be number 2 at the boxoffice beating clark gable
Tyrone Power died unexpectedly in 1958 at age 44 and people were shocked around the world due to his popularity. I was 15 years old and a huge fan. It was like loosing a family member. I am still a huge fan of film (no matter the country of origin), yet I have never seen any actor to match his looks, intensity, and charisma. He was magnetic appealing to everyone. Unfortunately, people that beautiful are often not given the credit due for their talent or skills because so many believe their fame is ONLY due to their looks and charm. Sadly, he always seemed to feel that his appearance was a curse, not a gift.
Completamente de acuerdo! Es increíble la belleza y la calidez del gran Tyrone Power! Tan jovencito!!! Sutil como ninguno! Nunca habrá otro igual a él!! Y además un buen actor! Muy versátil, mal que les pese a sus detractores que nunca le perdonaron su extraordinario atractivo!! Saludos!
"Ladies in Love transplants 20th Century-Fox's favorite film plot--three girls on the prowl for rich husbands--into the Budapest of the mid-1930s. Janet Gaynor, Loretta Young and Constance Bennett combine their earnings to rent a luxurious apartment, in hopes of attracting wealthy potential husbands. Young falls for a nobleman (Tyrone Power), who is engaged to another woman. She contemplates taking poison, but the lethal dose is accidentally ingested by Gaynor, whose plight results in a house call from Dr. Don Ameche, whom Gaynor has worshipped from afar. It is Bennett who snags the wealthy husband, middle-aged businessman Wilfred Lawson. Though Tyrone Power's part was small, he clicked immediately with the audiences, prompting the studio to give Power the big buildup. Ladies in Love would be reworked several times in the future, most obviously as How to Marry a Millionaire."
Dirty, dirty old man. I had to freeze the scene as I was in so much shock. She must have been what 15 and he was in his late 50's. How quickly he realised he loved her when she poured her young thoughts at him. As for suzie's transformation in a matter of days from country girl to glamour girl. Amazing.
In real life, this is what will happen in 5 years: (a) young girl with weird theatrical makeup will get bored with old husband, divorce him with half his fortune and run off with a young man, (b) show girl will fall in love with a career hottie and they live a fun, family life in a middle class home, (c) psychiatrist and wife will have lots of children and own a research-type zoo, and (d) the oldest lady of the 3 will marry the rich chap who waited for her at the train station.
Yes only Susie or Loretta Young's character did not get desired suitor. Constance Bennett got married with old rich man without love. Only Janet Gaynor's character got married to whom she loved, Don Ameche in film. In "How to marry a Millionaire" three girls got the persons they loved at last, be it Laureen Bacall, Marilyn Monroe or Bette Gable.
There were others as beautiful, but certainly no one more beautiful than Loretta and Tyrone; Janet Gaynor is simply gorgeous here, too.

How depressing!!! Happy endings don't always happen in real life don't they know that's what movies are for . Endings like this drive people nuts
sOn flower no! The Hollywood ending is so predictable and boring. And contrived. Good movies reflect life instead of pure fantasy.
very interesting "Hollywood" ending. . .
(SPOILER - not at all what i would have expected - but reality)
David’s beckensale life. Storie
that was a good movie and I thought I recognized that dr.. Boy was he young in this movie. And Tyrone power's jr. yummy!!!
Despite their mother / daughter conflicts Loretta Young and her daughter Judy Lewis shared many mutual strengths .
Tyrone Power... melting in my shoes
Me too!
he had no effect on me lol
I am still melting!
When I remember that he is not here anymore , I want to make a time machine and go direct to the 30´s.

Loretta Younge is my favorite characters in this movie
Great movie .enjoyed every moment!
There's a difference in sleeping with someone and sleeping with someone you love.
Well yes, but what difference does it make for a man ? He is getting it and that’s what’s counts for him :)
Or her
the great tyrone power.0:20:15 look at that profile, the best looking male actor of his time, nobody is handsomer than him. this is.his 4th film, in 3 years would be number 2 at the boxoffice beating clark gable
Saludos!
@@sherrillsmith8380 I agree! Several of his performances deserved at least an Oscar nomination to say the least. How unfair Hollywood can be.
wow Ty Power WAY down the billing

Amazing.
He was only 10 to 13 years older than her.
he was 42
and she was 26, they dressed her up in that little sailor suit and stars to look like a kid.
You were shocked. You need to check yourself. That's a bigoted statement. Ageism is not good. Would you say the same if they were different races
"I know how to raise pigs!"
"But I couldn't take you with me, unless I MARRIED you."
Hmmmm.
Reminds me of "How to Marry a Millionaire" -- same plot so it seems
In real life, this is what will happen in 5 years: (a) young girl with weird theatrical makeup will get bored with old husband, divorce him with half his fortune and run off with a young man, (b) show girl will fall in love with a career hottie and they live a fun, family life in a middle class home, (c) psychiatrist and wife will have lots of children and own a research-type zoo, and (d) the oldest lady of the 3 will marry the rich chap who waited for her at the train station.
I'm only a couple minutes in, but is this like an early version of 'how to marry a millionaire' ?
Yes only Susie or Loretta Young's character did not get desired suitor. Constance Bennett got married with old rich man without love. Only Janet Gaynor's character got married to whom she loved, Don Ameche in film. In "How to marry a Millionaire" three girls got the persons they loved at last, be it Laureen Bacall, Marilyn Monroe or Bette Gable.
Beautiful movie 😊
I like this movie
