TILTING your lawnmower to the CORRECT side (and the reason why)

  • If you have to tilt your lawnmower to the side, there is a preferred side to tilt it. If you tilt it the wrong way, you’ll put boiling gas into the carburetor. Basically you could flood your carburetor and have trouble starting it. If you tilt your lawnmower with the carburetor to the sky, this is correct. In the video I show a side-by-side comparison on what happens if you do it correctly and what could happen if you do it incorrectly. You’ll see a lot more white smoke burning off when you do it wrong. If you put the lawnmower down incorrectly just let it sit about 20 minutes, and let the gas and oil drain out of the carburetor. Of course it’s easier to tilt it onto the correct side. MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE SPARK PLUG if you are going to be working on the blade. This way the engine can't start if you move the blade.

    Hi lawnmower turned on it’s wrong side and oil wrecked the air filter and now won’t start. Someone suggested pouring fuel down the exhaust to clear it. Is this right?

    I cleaned mine out, and I guess I flipped it to the wrong side, now the thing barely runs. I tipped on its side for a while like you said, with the carburetor up, let it sit for 10 minutes, but the thing still won’t start at all, now. I guess I have to take the whole carburetor apart and clean it.
    If they designed a better deck that didn’t clog with grass so badly, this would never have happened. I think they designed them that way, so grass gets clogged under there and the moisture causes the deck to rust out. Then you have to go buy another lawnmower. Snapper makes much better lawnmowers. I got this POS for $150, from a neighbor who was moving. Honda is THE WORST lawnmower I ever owned, hands-down. Even before this happened, it was my opinion that this Honda lawnmower is a complete piece of trash.

      😂 grass blades have water in them, when you cut grass the grass STICKS to the surface and eventually just builds up more and more if you don’t clean it once or twice every season. This is just part of owning a lawnmower. Also, you need to either sharpen or buy new blades every 10-20hours of operation because they dull and tear the grass instead of cutting it, so you have to tip the mower EITHER WAY or do what I do, I lift up from the front and prop it up on a cinder block.

    Okay, I turned my lawnmower to the side to rinse it, now it doesn't want to start. The petrol thingy is in the middle of the mower, maybe it's just the petrol that leaked? I hope I didn't break it, my hubby will not be happy with me.

    • @livefree6878
      @livefree6878  3 года назад

      I wanted to do that since I was a kid. Unfortunately the way the engine is set up the oil is oriented using gravity. When you tilt it onto the side that oil does not spill out of the engine. But the oil cannot be distributed properly on its side. I haven’t looked it up for a while but you can see what options people of used on a go cart configuration. Sounds like a fun project though

    • @livefree6878
      @livefree6878  Год назад +1

      Typically I turn the lawnmower back on it for wheels, pull the spark plug out and clean it. Without cleaning the spark plug I really struggle to get it running again. If oil poured out, I usually make sure that they oil is topped off with a dipstick. Hope this answers your question👍

  • @jerzygawor958

    Tilt your lawnmower on it's back for cleaning and servicing the blade and you won't have any problems with petrol or oil leakage. And yes absolutely disconnect the spark plug before doing anything with the blade.

    • @livefree6878
      @livefree6878  3 года назад +1

      That’s an interesting feature, I don’t use it very much. You hook a garden hose up to the lawnmower while it’s running and it cleans all the grass off the bottom of the mower. It came standard with this mower.

    I got a question because I'm a 19 year old idiot and I left my neighbors lawn mower upside down for like 20 minutes trying to unclog the blade. The blade was getting stuck because my yard hasn't been cut for like two weeks and its long. So when I flipped it back over the air filter was drenched with gasoline. Please help. I'm looking for a friend.

    • @livefree6878

      I’ve definitely turned a lawnmower over to clean it up and had the same gassy mess. Once you flip it back over so it’s back on its wheels let it sit for about a half hour then check the Oil level. There’s usually a dipstick. If the oil is low then at a little 30 weight oil. It can be any kind of 30 weight oil 5W 30,10 W 30 or they sell just plain 30 weight oil for lawnmowers. Once all the fluids drain back in the lawnmower should start just like normal. For safety anytime you turn a mower over do you want a spark plug disconnected it’s worth your time. Just like the old style airplanes in the movies where they spin the blade The lawnmower can be started just by spinning the blade. I hope this answer your question

      It's a fitting that screws onto the end of a garden hose. You run the mower with the water running, and it's supposed to help clean the underside of the mower.
