Am I supposed to say..First? Lol 😆
Cool fix it repair! Thanks for sharing!
Lol! Yes you are I think! Your welcome and thanks for watching!
We haven’t used an outdoor faucet for the 11 years we’ve lived in our house. I finally got fed up with it, watched your video, and a quick trip to the hardware store later it’s working perfectly!! Thank you!!
Can't thank you enough for sharing this video! It's exactly what I needed to do with my faucet. The only difficult part of the job was finding the part I needed. No surprise that the greedy big box home improvement stores only sell the entire faucet assembly, and their staff laugh at the idea that a tiny part inside is all that is needed to fix the problem - but fortunately the trusty neighborhood hardware store wins again. Again, greatly appreciated!
So glad this was able to help. I totally get it. I've stopped going to big box stores looking for repair parts. I love the little hardware stores that still care about repairing products!
Thank you !!!!!
Thanks to this video which pointed me in the right direction to finally fix my spigot after not working for many years. I simply removed the sillcock and replaced a worn out seat gasket. A 59¢ part at Ace Hardware. Definitely saved me $$$. Thanks for posting this great informative video!
Awesome! So glad you were able to hook this up. So much savings in little repairs.
Finally. a repair video that actually shows you how to repair the stem vs replacing it. Thank you. Great video
THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!!!! Pretty sure you saved me a couple hundred dollars since I had two with no water coming out! It fixed my problems. Cost $26 combined to fix both!!!!!
That is great to hear. Please subscribe, share and help us grow. Thank you.
Thanks muchly for this! Found your video googling “why won’t my outdoor hose turn on”, I was able to follow all your instructions super easily, and sure enough found a jacked up tip. Sadly mine wasn’t an Arrowhead brand and they didn’t make just the replacement part, but I was still able to replace the stem really easily and for
That is awesome. So glad we were able to help you out. Please subscribe, share and help us grow. Thank you.
Hi Brian, 45 year old lady here who considers herself fairly handy in the home repair realm. Now that spring has arrived up here in Canada I went to turn on the outdoor faucet. NO WATER!?! My other outdoor faucets worked and the water to that tap wasn't closed off. What the heck? Time to You tube! lol. Your video was the first to come up and although my assembly was a bit different I knew exactly what to do thanks to you. I removed the inner rod and saw nothing but a spring on the end, hmmm. I went down and turned on the water to see if anything flowed now that nothing was inside the tap. Sure enough, there was water now. Plus on the ground now was the little end piece similar to in your video. It had become disconnected and left behind in the pipe. I actually just pushed it back on the rod and replaced everything to see if it still worked and it works beautifully. I'm going to keep my eyes open for a replacement valve just in case this happens often and the part is worn out. Thanks so much, I feel like a DIY pro today.
That is awesome! I’m really glad that this helped you! I love reading comments like yours more than I like shooting videos! Helping people is what this is all about! I hope we can help again. If your would not mind passing this video on maybe it can help someone else you know! Thank you for watching.
I'll have to try this. Mine was working last year and I have a feeling this is the issue. Thanks for the information and the awesome how to man.
Thank you so much. All the other videos I could find were about leaks- the opposite of the problem I was experiencing.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Your step by step process will be a huge help for a newly divorcee like myself. I was about to call my repair guy, but then thought "let me pull up RUclips" and your video was the first one to pop up. Now, off to the hardware store I go. Keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏽. Again, thanks for sharing 😊.
Thanks for the tips Brian! Good information and easy fix!
Your welcome moms! Love helping people out!
I like the plumbing videos I would have probably changed the whole bib but this is way easier.
It was so nice to fix this. It literally would would have been a massive amount of work to replace this from the garage. Arrowhead makes a quality product.
Just what I needed to see. Thanks
Glad this video helped. Hope we can help again.
Thank you so much! I fixed this myself in minutes ❤
This is great. I'd love to see how you identified this problem and/or rules out other issues (prior to opening the bib).
Just what I was looking for! Thanks!
So glad to hear it.
Nice fix! Thanks for the video!
Thank you. I happened to work out very well.
Nice fix brother. Enjoy this great fix it content
Thank you Steve! I just hope it will help someone one of these days.
Thank You For this video. This was a great help. Now my wife can stop Complaining lol ! I will give it the Ole College Try.
You got this.
Hey Brian thanks for the great video and information 👍
Your welcome Britt! Thank you for the support!
Great video thank you so much 😃
Thanks for sharing This video really helped 🎉
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing. Turn water on a quarter of turn and water stops! Looking to replace check valve on end
Thanks Buddy
My spigot I have to turn it Atleast ten full turns to get the water to come on !
It’s a little aggravating, feel like I’m not going to get any water then it starts .
I’m going to change that piece you changed to see if that solves my problem
Thanks so much ( I did subscribe by the way I just found you on the tube)
👏👏👌👍
Thanks for the video 📹
Your welcome. Hope it helped.
Thanks! Very helpful. G
Thank you!
Handiest dude on the tube!

Today I learned how to rock n roll!
That’s what I like! 🤘🎸
Thank you !

Your welcome.
Thanks for sharing- how do I find out what type of ABP spigot I have? Or are the replacement parts universal for their frost-free spigots? I was told at our local hardware store that the length of the stem has changed in the last ten years, and I'm assuming our spigot is original to the house ('86). Any tips?
Just had a modular built (finished Nov 2022) - the outside faucet was working. Just tried it now, and no go. Is what you're describing in this video supposed to happen for a pretty much newly installed faucet (5 months ago)? Will I need to do this every spring? Thanks!
Thank you
I think that's what I have. The thing doesn't have water flowing but there's no valve I can find that controls it from an earlier point. Buying a house comes with a lot of surprises.
So many surprises. Did you have to shut the house off?
@@ThatFixItGuy I haven't done anything yet but your video tells me that's the only logical cause to the problem and I highly doubt the previous owners decided to just cap off that specific line without capping off the faucet as well.
I'll look into it this weekend because my backyard grass is dying for some water.
Thanks
Thank you. Well done. Question. I have an outside hose bib by my barn. It stand alone about three feet high. No water coming out. Is this the same problem that you showed. Should I pull the stem out?
Love the content, and great up beat attitude too my guy 👍💯
Thank you! I love helping people and have found this to be right up my alley! I appreciate the support.
TIL. thank you!
Should I run a layer of plumbers tape on the threads on reinstall?
Nice 👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
I have an American Valve M72AS. It's the second outside hose bibb and I'm getting no water coming out of it, but the other one works just fine. From what I'm seeing inside I don't have separate shut off valves for them, they both have the same shut off. So this makes me wonder if the problem is what your describing in the video. Nothing comes up when doing a search for a springless check assembly for American Valve. Will I need to replace the entire hose bibb?
Looking online it looked like Lowe’s has repair parts for you bibs. I would shut the water off and pull that stem and see what is going on. The screw could have feel out that holds the washer on. I would pull it out and take a look to see what is going on.
Hey! great vid a great help. But I have a question. When I took the faucet out, another part was attached to it, it screws on and off and has a little plastic piece in it, that is broken. I can't find what it's called anywhere, is it possible you by any chance know what it's called. Some said it's a vacuum breaker but the pictures of that don't match mine. Please and thank you, I'm trying really hard to get my hose fixed myself!
Can you send me a picture on either facebook or Email? Thank you
Great video! Can you explain what "jacked up" really meant? Why did that jacked up part stop the water from flowing?
There is a spring set up on the end of the stem that holds that washer in place. that assembly separated from the stem and was not allowing water to flow.
Have this same problem but I am not sure if it is the same description you provided in the link. Is there a universal on to purchase? Where do I need to go to purchase? Lowes , Home Depot or just a regular hardware store?
It may be somewhat universal in the same manufacture. I would check for specifics though. Is there any markings the hose bib itself? Lowes adn home depot sell different brands I believe. My local hardware had what I needed. Send me a couple pictures if you like and I can try to help as well. ufix247@gmail.com
Hi Brian! This was very helpful. I have the exact issue you’re showing here. What would you suggest if I try this fix and water still doesn’t come out? The older seal did look worn and I replaced it, but still no water.
Have you removed the stem and looked in the faucet to see if something came apart and got stuck? Once everything is out I would then turn the water on and make sure you have flow coming with the stem in the faucet.
@@ThatFixItGuy you mean with the stem out, right? I’m totally flying blind here and don’t want to have a flood.
@impendingrapture yes. It may be a two person job when you turn the water on and off. Also a flashlight in there may help.
Hi Meghan, did you find the solution for your issue? I am curious what may have been the problem for your scenario.
How long is the entire rod?
Great video, I was able to pull mine out and replace that bit. But after putting the whole thing back in, the handle won't turn at all? Do I just need to replace the whole assembly?
Actually, was able to get it to turn finally, it's just really stiff. I may need to replace the handle.
Did you put new packing in it? Sometimes that will make it a little stiff
Hi there does it make a difference if you are on well water
Should not make a difference. You may have some rock debris in there, but it is same.
Is this relevant to super old looking spigots? The house I live in is from the early 1900s and the spigot was done closer to then than now by the looks of it.
I’m not sure if yours would be frost free or not, but same principle. If you can get it apart it may be able to be fixed. If it is super out you may want to plan for replacement just in case.
would this solve a low pressure situation too?
Is that the only place you are having a low pressure issue? If so it totally could.
I want to try this with my hose that’s not running, but can I just turn off the water to the house or do I need to turn it off at the meter?
You should be able to turn the water off to the house. I when meter cause their shut off was rickety!
I put a brand new one on because it was leaking under the house and had very low pressure. After installing the new one. The pressure did increase a little, but now the water will only come on when it wants to. I have to open and close the valve a few times before I can hear the water finally come through. When it does come on, it spits and sputters constantly. No leaking under the house, but the pressure still doesn’t feel right. Any suggestions?
I would try to flush it. Seems like there may be something in there. Pull the stem out then have someone turn the water on full blast if you can. That way you may be able to see what is going on. Maybe something was loose with the new one inside as well.
I had a question, if your other outdoor Faust is not working, how can I drain the line when I turn off the main?
Well you can release the pressure by turning on any faucet or flush a toilet then you can take apart the faucet.
I live in apartment complex having problems with outside faucet I was told my outside faucet was broke hopefully I don't have to replace the hold faucet
For sure try to replace the washer. It does the trick a lot of the time.
How do you find where to turn off the water?
We were pressure washing our back patio when the water to the outside faucet just stopped. Nothing comes out at all now, but the faucet in the garage is working fine as are all others in the house. Could this be the problem/solution you describe here? We’re in GA, so I don’t think we have a frost free hood, but I don’t know how to determine that either. We just winterize by shutting off under the kitchen sink and taping a sock over it. I’m afraid we’re not too plumbing savvy, and I don’t want to make the problem worse. Thanks!
It sounds like it could be the same type of issue. I would shut the water off and take a look. There are only a couple things it could be. The screw could have just came off. Good luck and let me know if I can help once you take a peak.
Thank you so much! We’ll check!
I have an 8" frost free hose bib...the screw end has come off and stays in the pipe and stays not on the shaft... not allowing any water flow when bib is gutted.
What if the rod wont come out? Should I just force pull it out or does it need further fixing?
Sorry for the late response. Some pull out and some thread out. I would try counter clockwise turning while pulling, If it still wont come out then depending on your comfort level I would either replace or call a plumber.
Well done, however, you lost me at the meter key. So, every home has one of these, or are some outside faucets connected to indoor water lines?
And of course he doesn't bother answering
I have an inside valve right behind the wall. It is easy to empty the water in the pipe from the inside valve to the outside faucet (by shutting down the valve first and then turning on the faucet), so that there is nothing to freeze. Why my house still had a 'frost free faucet' installed? It does not make sense to me. Moreover, I cannot figure out how the 'frost free faucet' works, despite quite bit researches and readings -- if the rubber tip (Bibb Washer) worn out, why the problem is 'no water' instead of leaking?
So the way they are build them with the longer stem manufactures build them different down at the washer end. The assembly at the bottom could be popped off the long shaft. I have had this happen to me.
Does that arrowhead fit any outdoor faucet
No just arrowhead specifically. If you can send me a picture I can try and find yours. Any of the markings on it will help.
What if just the top part is broken?
I have a weird question. Hopefully i get a reply from someone. My dad is nearly 80, and has a bad back. His outdoor water spigot is quite low to the ground. Is there some type of tool that can attach to the spigot that extends up so he can easily turn off/on? It's just a standard 4 in. Anti-Siphon Sillcock Frost Free Outdoor Faucet. I was thinking of attaching like a metal yard stick to the turn off/on knob some how so he could turn it left and right as needed. I hope this makes sense. I hope even more someone knows of something. Thanks!!
My check valve has come off the stem and is stuck deep inside the chamber. Any idea how I get it out?
Have you tried having sometime turn the water on for you to blow it out? You may get wet but usually does the trick.
Hi my hose bibb tap is free (rotates freely) do you think I can replace just the tap?
Just the handle is spinning freely? Is that what you mean by Tap? Do you know the manufacturer?
@@ThatFixItGuy yes the handle, Top round part is moving freely. Unfortunately can’t find the name to manufacturer on it.
You can try a new universal handle. They sell them at the big box store. Or take a picture and try to match up the stem with a new handle. You can find something to work. You can send me a picture if you like. Ufix247@gmail.com
@@ThatFixItGuy thanks pics sent.
What if it's not a frost free faucet? Mine won't put out any water, but has a leak which makes no sense
I like your video. But I still don't understand why the water didn't come out before your repair. How would a old/damaged springless check assembly block the water flow? Would appreciate any comments. Thanks!
I don't know why the springless check coming off the stem would do that, but that is what I found wrong in it. I thought it was weird too.
I have one that doesn’t come out that I just replaced not long ago and it worked fine. What are the chances it’s this simple and not something else
I would be interested to know if this is the case for you as well. This was really the first time a saw this.
Will i need to shut off meter? Because i have no clue where mine is or how bout the shut off valve?
You don't need to shut the meter, but you will need to shut the water off to the line with the hose bib on it or the main water shut off to the house. The water will have to be shut off in some way to make a repair to your hose bib.
@@ThatFixItGuy thanks for replying brotha, i did it but only thing is i got water running but when i shot off, it’s making a hissing sound with water still coming out?
Is that because psi? Or hasn’t been on for so long should i let it keep running till sound go away
Depending on your house size and where the bib is located in the system it my take a little bit for the pressure to drop.
What would YOU recommend to keep Dirt out of my Water Meter Box?...🤔
Thanks,
🤓 -Thomas
Western Washington State
Thomas that is a great question. The meter boxes in our area that stay the cleanest tend to be one with root structure around them. Grass or some kind of ground covering plant. You would want to use a plant that won’t take over but keeps the soil intact.
Most boxes are put in landscaped areas and with all the rain they just fill in with dirt. I have the same issue and unfortunately my box is in the neighbors flower beds. I hope that helps.
My faucets work, but if I shut off the inside valves for winter, (we have low pressure here, like 50 to 60 psi), when I turn them on in summer, it takes about 5 minutes for flow. Is that because air is in the lines?
It happens also if unused for a while, too. These are new faucets, and neighbors have same problems. Am I right, or are new faucets defective?
How far away is the shut off valve from the faucet itself? That seems like a long time. 50-60 psi is pretty good water pressure. If they don't leak and function properly I would not think they are defective. Would be interested to know how it is plumbed for sure.
@@ThatFixItGuy it is 3 ft from 1, and 35 ft from the other. Once water flows, it's fine. The connecting pipe is like a blue hard rubber or plastic feed which connects to the copper lines. House is 4 years old, and it happened since day one.
35ft is a good long run. Is that a yard hydrant? Or just a hose bib?
@@ThatFixItGuy You are talking over my head. The water goes to both faucets, but not copper pipes. The look like a garden hose. That goes to a shutoff valve on each faucet (up or down lever).
All indoor water connections are blue heavy duty hoses, like you'd find on a washing machine. It's definitely within code, as my last home had that as well.
Yeah I’m sure it is pex pipe. Most homes are built with it these days. I would think you are fine. I bet it is just the way the plumber ran the water pipes is why it takes so long. If the faucets work and there are no leaks I would say good to go. 5 minutes is a long time though for sure.
Hey how to change the temperature for outdoor faucet?
Is the water coming out hot or something?
@@ThatFixItGuy yes, hot water comes out.
Was it in the garage? They sometimes plumb hot water or a mixing valve for washing your vehicles. You would have to switch it in the wall I bet. Find a place close where hot and cold are close around there
Dang it, my comment didn't post because I used a link I presume. Can you please tell me what part I'd need if THIS style of outdoor faucet stopped working? It's a " SharkBite 24628LF Frost Free Sillcock, 8" " Thanks so much
My search came up with nothing as well. I looked through the sharkbite catalog. I would call customer service. I may be able to look a little more later.
@@ThatFixItGuy That's odd, I copied / pasted it from Amazon. Tried pasting it just now in the Amazon search box and it popped right up. Okay cool thanks anyway man I appreciate you, thanks for looking! I'm thinking it may be the same part. Never seen an outdoor faucet just die like that!
Sorry it was late and I don’t think I understand at first. Depending on what is wrong you may be able to get a mix of bib washers and replace that. But if something like the stem and you need those parts I could not find them. I found the hose bib just not repair parts for it.
@@ThatFixItGuy - No worries, thanks so much for checking it out for me. I'll have a look at the internals and if there's nothing obvious then I'll probably have to buy another whole faucet for it. Have a great year
I’m inserted to know what you find when you open that up. Good luck and I hope it works out.
Am I supposed to hear running water even if nothing is coming out ? Also what if both of my faucets are like this ? Now what
Fix them both. Lol What do you mean both are like this?
repair black plastic poped out valve water froze on 4 way water hose diverter
Here's an attaboy on your fix working. Actually, I'm actually surprised you actually didn't actually run water through the faucet while it was disassemble to clear out any remaining detritus.
Good catch! I should have done that. Next time for sure.
@@ThatFixItGuy so it’s good to run water with the whole stem out, right? Turn the main back on and let it flow for a minute or so?
@impendingrapture can be a few seconds of run time, but yes it could help if something is stuck.
Is this the only reason it wouldn’t be working?
No there could be something in there blocking it or a broken piece. Sometimes you have to take it apart and inspect it.
No air is coming out of my well and now no water is coming out of my plumbing yesterday my indoor plumbing started losing pressure and now I went to my well and opened the spigot and tons of air came out now nothing is coming out of my house faucet
Mine is nothing like that
Good luck finding the correct sized parts folks. Unbelievable
I wish you would just get to it
Too freaking wordy, just get to it.
Thank you!
