Ah yes, the realities of watering a balcony garden. I am a first time balcony gardener. I thought I was going to get a hose and some adapter to connect to my kitchen sink but reality set in😂. I use a watering can and water bottles. I don't even mind taking all the trips to the sink. Thanks for keeping it real!
It's a big adjustment when the reality sets in 🤣 but once you find your own routine and rhythm like with your can and your bottles it's not that deep. It's nice to make videos for people who get the struggle! 🤣❤ Thank you for watching! ❤
@@CloudGardenerUK I will keep watching. I am trying to embrace the creature videos. The videos are awesome and so informative, it's just the creatures😂. (Except Tracey of course!)
I love the science bit in your videos 🤣👍🏻 I split my garden into zones and one day I might water one zone and then another day another zone. I also have an area where I keep a few containers filled with tap water to rest for 24 hours so that chlorides from water fall to the bottom of the container (important not to use the bottom inch or two of water in those container). It makes it more suitable for acid-loving plants and roses. Good points about the knuckle test and watering until water runs through the bottom of the pot. 😊 Also, every summer I do garden clearance. Inevitably, I reach the limits of my patience mid-drought and I start chucking away plants that don't do well in my garden to make space for new ideas.
You are soo good managing to clear them away. I am always like.. oh I'm sure it will just grow back 👀 🤣 Splitting up the garden makes more sense at least you know you can break it down the watering a bit more. I may borrow that one ❤
@@CloudGardenerUK Dividing the garden into zones is useful if you have different conditions. No point watering shady area as often as those in the sun and silver leaved plants need much less watering that evergreen plants. My summer clearance is really just borne out of being fed up with watering when we have no rain for weeks on end. Last year we had 12 weeks with no rain and at least 9 weeks of drought in high summer and I refuse to spend all my time watering the garden and then not even having a chance to sit then and enjoy it 🤣🤣
I have a small rain barrel on my balcony where I store old aquarium water. It is not hooked up to the drain, since I don't know what my neighbors above me pour on the balcony that can kill my plants.
@@CloudGardenerUK Unfortunately it doesn't have rainwater, since the rainpipes on my balcony are also the 'drain' for the balconies above. So if the people above me clean the windows or something with soap, that would then go through the drain into my rain barrel. Way too risky for my plants. So I just put old aquarium water in it and sometimes top it off with regular tap water.
That's probably due to the chlorine in the tap water which your houseplants don't like :( glad the distilled water is doing the trick for you! Although not the extra costs 🙈

@@CloudGardenerUK Too many! I have over 300 plants 😅 I usually carry 4 bottles per trip to do as few trips as possible but it still takes about an hour every other day.
THANK YOU! Watering talks that don't involve a hose!
Honestly! I was getting so mad looking for watering videos for us balcony gardeners last year! At least we have one for us now! ❤

I appreciate the tray tip. Getting some growbags and that will save my patio floor.
Yes that'll do!

Great tips! Your very inventive. I learned some things again today! 💚
Thank you! Glad it helped ❤
Sorry guys, but I had to keep it real with you! 🤣 If you have any good watering tips.. share them in the comments! ❤

Nice! So your balcony must be thriving with all that rain water then?

I only have house plants but have to water them with bottled water as tap water turns the leaves brown

I don't even have a watering can! My 1L plastic jug does the trick 😁
I use 2L milk containers 🤣🤣 Watering cans are overrated 😉
No way!! How many trips to the sink do you have to do?
