  • Welcome to my first balcony garden tour of 2024. It's a tale of two halves. I have some balcony garden successes and some balcony garden fails. My container garden tour covers my struggles to bring my balcony garden back to life after neglecting the garden whilst I travel for flower shows. Now I am on a mission to get the garden back together again.

    It's been a minute since my last balcony content upload! So happy to be back. If you're new here.. I try to keep things real. My garden is very much a work in progess after travelling for work. So don't be expecting to see a picture perfect garden. Each upload, hopefully you'll see the garden get a little bit better, one small step at a time!

    I love the realness of your balcony. I also have plants on my balcony and I always feel as if I'm failing. But it's just life and nature and the beauty of all of it ❤

    Welcome back bro!! Yes, @10:59 is an ajuga--- I'd recognize that foliage anywhere. Things aren't as bad as they seem....with a little TLC everything is flourishing once again. It's fascinating the amount of plant diversity you are growing in the Cloud Garden. I enjoyed hanging with you Jason.😎🤓

    Loved watching your balcony tour, the window boxes mixture of plants look amazing and like that you have different areas like woodland, edible container plants things for pollinators you think of everything! So refreshing to watch something out of the ordinary, thank you look forward to the next one.♥

    LOVE the realness here. after getting an allotment plot with our neighbours my own garden was second priority for a while and looking a little sad. did some maintainence this weekend and realised it wasn't as bad as i thought. the idea of starting is often worse than the actual doing!

    Tiktok shop finally got me with the solar drip irrigation, but I set it up for my balcony garden it's just a game changer! So much easier to water regularly now, I just save the water from the shower heating up and put it in a reservoir and all my garden boxes are watered on a schedule, even the ones in a green house. Highly recommend. But, there are some other passive watering techniques that would be helpful like terra cotta watering spikes or even the ones that use tubing from a jug.

      @@CloudGardenerUK I found it very easy! But I helped set up big irrigation system with the gardener so I learned how to do it. I have no doubt that you'll figure it out.

    Excellent work you did there! I love that spinach. It grows like a weed in my garden, but you've given me a great idea. I have an arch that needs another rose, but while I ponder which one I could plant some Malabar spinach! Thank you! 🌸🌿😊

      Finally, someone else that knows about malabar! It's soo good! I'll filming setting up the arches tomorrow and then I'll show training the malabar up that arch. Now that frosts are out of the way.. it'll definitely take on the arches with no probs! I can't believe malabar grows so easily in your garden, where are you?

    I absolutely looove seeing your balcony garden again! And keeping it real is so refreshing. I have an overbuilt balcony in Norway, but not as high up as yours. I can’t really call it a garden this year, at least not yet. It’s been a very difficult year after losing my mum and many of my plants didn’t make it through our record cold winter. I wish I. Ould buy your water garden pots over here! I wonder if you get any problems with mosquitoes in them on the balcony or do you get the predators of them as well?
    I also wonder what you do about pots spilling water. My newish neighbour made a huge complaint last summer when some water dripped on his railing and even though I was very sorry, offered to dry it up (he wouldn’t let me) and explained I was really struggling since Mum died he had no sympathy or understanding so now I really don’t know how to water pots properly specially if I’ve been away and they are really dry. I have lived here many years and rarely had any troubles.
    The water actuallly watered his main planter, we havea built in concrete one on each balcony.
    How do you get hiverflies and ladybugs? I would love to have them. When my balcony garden has had lots of flowers before I have had bumble bees and an occasional butterfly. I do have birds though through feeding them and a few weeks ago I had a couple of red squirrels for the first time until I was away.

    Take the plants into the shower and carefully wash away the aphids down the plug hole 😂 no squishing required 👍❤

    How refreshingly honest to show your green space "warts and all!"
    I struggle to keep certain invasive weeds out of my garden ....bind weed , arum and wild garlic ...I found a small horsetail too which I tried to get rid of quickly . Sometimes it feels like I'm in a constant battle to gain balance in my green space ! Any advice would be appreciated ❤

      I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video and you enjoyed the "reality". I may have all these fancy awards but the reality is that sometimes gardening can get overwhelming. So I try to take it section by section and manage what I can. I keep some weeds for pollinators but not all. Luckily, I haven't encountered bind weed up here but I have heard the horror stories! What part of your garden are you working on this weekend?

    • @sianscountrylife4925
      @sianscountrylife4925 Месяц назад

      So probably the borders ...the bindweed gets tangled up in the plants, and it's in the hedge too ! I'm not sure how to get rid of it entirely ... I'm thinking of digging over the whole border again ! Last did that two years ago . Thanks for your reply 👍 @CloudGardenerUK

    How are you gardens doing? Any balcony or small space gardeners need a video on a specific topic? Let me know and I'll film one with some solutions... I'm thinking compost should be a good one!

    • @ChristopherDraws
      @ChristopherDraws Месяц назад +2

      A video on balcony composting would be great! I'm frustrated because my local authority doesn't collect food waste from our property, and we don't have any local community composting... So any food waste has to go directly into general waste, i.e. landfill. I've tried to do what I can by composting in a lidded plastic bucket, but it's such a slow process, it isn't really a solution. I've looked into having a wormery, as I believe this is much faster... But too scared to take the plunge 😅

      @kitm141 Месяц назад +1

      @@ChristopherDrawsI was in the exact same position as you last year but I bit the bullet and bought an indoor wormery from The Urban Worm. I love it! No smell, no mess, and when the worms started having baby worms, I was so thrilled! Cant recommend it enough, just don’t expect buckets of compost overnight and be careful not to overfeed.

    Great to see you again Jason!! Missed you and your balcony, although seen more of you on the telly. Slugs are the bain of my life right now and have tried garlic spray, beer traps, and somehow they even get into closhes , can you recommend something that actually works so they give my plants a chance to grow?

    Before you know it your garden will be the bees knees. Do slugs have wings how do they get up to a high rise balcony.
