- A technical 3D animation of Darth Vader's Lightsaber.
The Star Wars Dictionary actually explains it as energy being channeled to a primary crystal and then through a series of focusing crystals.
The reason that only Jedi and Sith can make them is that building a lightsaber is one of the most difficult (and mandatory) tasks for Jedi and Sith initiates to accomplish as the focussing crystals must be perfectly aligned (which tests true Force sensitivity).
Even the slightest misalignment of the focussing crystals will cause the weapon to detonate upon activation. A Jedi knight or Sith lord assembles his lightsaber by hand as part of his training.
The saber was partly electronic but included an Energy modulation circuit, a pair of cycling field energizers, and two Kyber crystals that cannot be made artificially.

The animation should really show the light saber beam looping back around and entering the collection assembly to be recycled back in the main beam.
really enjoyed this.
Short and simple. 😀
Short but good
So glad they aren't real. I'd be in jail by now.
Or in the morgue after accidentally performing self amputation/decapitation
Great video! I like that you’re expanding!
I wanted to see if YT shorts improve YT algo.
@@Halfscreen let’s hope so! 😀👍
1:00 when operating under Disney lore, this might be the case
Pre Disney lore wipe - they were not kyber crystals, as the KAIBURR crystal was an individual crystal with the ability to amplify the weilders force abilities
Lightsabers used various types of crystal, the vast majority of jedi lightsabers used naturally occurring ILUM crystals, which gave the lightsaber its colour, and other crystals such as rubat crystals for example could augment the blade in various ways
The reason with lightsabers were red, was due to the process by which their ARTIFICIAL crystals were made and the way the synthetic crystals had such precise crystalline internal lattices.
Agreed. Lore would be different under Lucas vs Disney.
@@Halfscreen what too many people get hung up on is that “different” doesn’t necessarily equate to “better/worse”
“Legends” shall ALWAYS be held to higher esteem for me due to growing up with it and the importance to my childhood. But hey, we do still get MORE content, better than nothing
Personally my issue was not that Disney abolished established lore…but HOW they did it and how they reacted to fan outcry by demeaning and labelling them
If Disney truly wished to unify the fan base, being they have the animation studios, what I’d love to see is for them to make a long running animated series they could simply call “legends” and convert the various novels into 4-8-12 episode long arcs like they did with clone wars, which would bring the ostracised pre Disney fans back with a smile.
Keep up the good work man
@@trayolphia5756 Thanks. I think the same is true with any genre owned by corporations. All you have to do is watch Ring of Power and you can see politic and agenda is more important than character development and staying true to the lore.
@@Halfscreen ironically that was a sentiment that got labelled as “toxic” by Disney
When Disney came in and rewrote the lore in order to give us Rei, under the banner of “more strong female characters”…in so doing they ignored characters like
Mara Jade
Tenel Ka
Tahiri Veila
along with many others
The character Rei is HEAVILY conceived based on Jaina Solo as well…
But the moment that gets pointed out…just more “toxic fandom”
I myself don’t actually have streaming subs to many platforms, and only have Netflix access due to my family gifting me a slot on their plan haha.
Side note, with your recent video on the MC80 cruiser, I look forward to future vids in that series…even though obviously the sheer size and layout for an ISD will proclude full walkthrough much as the MC80 did. :)
@@trayolphia5756 I think we going to see more of the same from corporate media, unfortunately. I'm probably going to give SW a break due to the low viewership on these videos late, seem like YT algo ain't working on getting views for some reason.
Imagine using this as a real life weapon. It would fuck up your hands with blisters and cuts due to the handle design.
Unless you had a cybernetic hand. best not to think about it too much takes all the fun out of it.
(Cough) gloves (cough)
Has there been anything detailing the power sources used for blasters, lightsabers and other items that uses "batteries" basically? I've always been curious what they used for the actual power cells/sources.
The actual type of battery/cell doesn’t go into much detail, there may be occasional references to “(insert sci fi element) cells”
But before Disney abolished everything to be able to write things as they wanted without conflicting information, the notion of blasters and how they worked was that there was a power cell which provided the raw electrical power needed to ignite the Tibanna gas the blaster also used. This gas when ignited into a plasma would then be expelled as a cohesive bolt.
Easiest analogy, the bullets and the gunpowder were loaded seperately
@@trayolphia5756 Correct, I know that but still, there was needed a pretty damn powerful power cell. Especially for the lightsabers. To be able to cut through metal like they can do and everything else takes power plant sized amounts of energy by today's standards.
@@cchavezjr7 there are references (I believe) wherein it’s implied the power cell provided the initial activation charge, the loop nature of the plasma beam within the magnetic containment field acted as a recycled energy.
Similar in context to how a car battery powers the starter motor and provides power to the spark plugs, the motor in turn runs the alternator which continuously recharges the battery?
However, such discussion is based in extrapolation from available knowledge of technology that is beyond us and fictional…but from a deductive logic standpoint, seems the most likely notion :)
@@trayolphia5756 but the magnetic field to do that itself would require immense energy and any time it strikes a wall, ground or anything other than another lightsaber, it will drain energy.
