I loved it, too. The openings of old tv shows were often better than the shows, themselves. I always loved the old Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew opening(with the maze). I totally agree that these type of shows were the best. But they're too "soft" to be shown on the rerun networks today (except in the early a.m. hours) unless you catch a weekend binge of them on Decades Network, which from time to time runs Barnaby Jones, Cannon, Mannix, and several others. Gotta love the composition by Jerry Goldsmith and the signature performance of the Wrecking Crew. Carol Kaye's bass-line gives it away, but the whole group is strong and a keystone to so many fantastic albums, themes, and commercials. There will never be another like that group.
You will soon be able to order a cd from www.screenarchives.com and get the music from this series as well as Quinn Martin's other shows. Search for the Quinn Martin Collection. I received an email that pre orders are now accepted.

QM was a high class act. It's no accident Ebsen and so many other actors with high standards worked with them. I did some of their legal work over the twenty one season's they had product on the air. Professional and always on budget and on time.
@@Mycroft9 I've listened to this theme a million times and just recently started actually watching the episodes, which I really like. So far, I've seen all of season 1 and 2. It's playing in your head because it's very beautiful and you love it. The same thing happened to me with the theme from Exodus. My parents used to listen to it on vinyl when I was a child. The movie was recently on TV and when I heard the theme, it freaked me out, not only because it was so beautiful, but because I knew EVERY note of it. My sisters, niece and nephews were members of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) during the 80's and 90's and we knew a lot of people in the entertainment business. I know that Jerry Goldsmith, who is credited for having written this and other theme songs, was a Jethro Tull fan and it definitely shows in this theme. He also worked with the script writers on Barnaby Jones, which is why the song "Wind Up", from Jethro Tull's Aqualung album, showed up in the "A Gold Record for Murder" episode, which aired in February of 1974. That one featured Buddy Epson playing the song on acoustic guitar. Even though Mike Post has always been my favorite composer, this one, by Jerry Goldsmith, is definitely my all time favorite single theme song.
