Koo Kar Wai I know this, I did my NS. This command is not bad, some of the longest commands I heard was when I went for the CDFCOC and SAF day parade.

People should stop associating NS on the whole as "serving the Army"
There's like so many branches of services people serve in.
Army, Navy, Air Force, Police Force, Civil Defence.
However for this case, it really indeed is about the "Army"

Pretty sure the branches of the military are Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Gaurd

for those who dont understand the drills, for the first one, kekenan is right, and the other stuff is mostly filler words, so basically if they say kekenan pusing, it basically means turn right, the bur tigga tigga is used to address a squad (or baris during parades). the first kekenan is where you will end up facing and the second kekenan after bur tigga tigga is what direction you turn in. the dari kiri jepat jalan is marching, starting with left foot and right arm out. so the full thing is "burgurat kekenan bur tigga tigga kekenan pusing (turn right), dari kiri jepat jalan (forward march)" p.s. i was bored so i typed this out. p.p.s im from npcc and im 13 haha

Remember that serving the NS is not slavery, but it is one's responsibility as a Singaporean. We must not forget that we fell many years ago because we did not have a proper army. We ourselves must protect Singapore, if not who? Singapore cannot afford to have a professional army as it will cost a lot of money and also we have a very small population. So be proud to serve the NS :) As for women serving the army, good for them, but isn't it unreasonable to say that women who don't join the army do not play their part? Would you men rather go through 9 months of pregnancy and labour probably a few times? This is all where WE came from. So we should think before we complain so much!! The government IS doing its best to make our country strong against both external and internal aggressors and I feel proud to witness the national day parades:)
Your argument has flaws. Problem is many women don't give birth. Look at our birth rate are they doing their job?
Women who don't give birth to 2 by certain age should serve NS any1 agree? (There are regular women in the 40s still in army in COMBAT vocations.)
That will solve our low birthrate problem as well as declining NSFs enlistees due to low birthrate. (At least they can choose, we can't)

Unfortunately you're in Singapore you don't get to choose. Can I choose not to serve NS? I also want to focus on my career leh. I don't want NS and ict to disrupt my career.

What career can I have at the age of 18/19? As if girls can have a career at that age and guys can't.
Btw some pp start working that early dont assume everybody has a degree. For uni students without NS, they get to graduate younger and go out to work earlier and 2 years worth of full time income richer as well. NS its not just 2 years you also have reservist for 10 years it will disrupt your career.
Whatever argument you make in favour for guys serving NS can also be used for girls too. Think before you make your arguments...
