I had an automation to turn off all lights every morning. It took me a while to realise why my Reolink infrared were being turned off 😅 Happy New Year and thanks for the videos!

      Haha, that's excellent.

There's still no inbuilt adhoc timer support on voice assistants, this is the number one use-case for Alexa & Google assistants, certainly ones in kitchens.

Yeah, agreed. That's all we use ours for in the kitchen.
I think they'll add that this year for sure.

Why not just add a sentence and intent for timer, automate a timer that plays an alarm on expiry through whatever speaker you want? Easy

Yeah I almost mentioned this option actually.
The hope (and probably HA team's ambition) is that most voice Assistant commands just work out of the box so that it's easy for beginners.
But it is good that they have given the option to effectively customise your own commands too.

Hot take that I haven't shared yet, but I think rings true: Scripts and Automations should be combined. A Script is just an automation with no trigger.

Yeah, there have certainly been situations where I could use either.
I think it's only scripts that can be triggered by voice assistants at the moment but no reason why that couldn't be changed.

@@lets-automate It would also makes the UI more cluttered too. I really wish we had folders or groups for automations and scripts

You mention blocking your Shelly devices using a firewall rule. It would be great to have a guide about the various ways to do that!

Thanks for the comment! I'm considering some homelab related videos in 2024 which would include some of this sort of thing.
This specifically really depends on the router you have.

@@lets-automate so is it a feature on your router like "block this device"? What's the name of the feature? I'd be interested to look it up in the manual

The "Valve" thingy is pretty cool actually. Sadly my Homematic IP heating system doesn't actually properly expose valve state let alone let me adjust them manually, but I am sure it will work for many other appliances.
    Also...Tessie integration is very appreciated.

My radiator valves expose themselves as climate devices so I don't have a use yet, but I think my garden sprinklers will probably be the first use for the valve entity.

Even when I slow down your videos to 90%, you still talk too fast for me to get it. Slow down please.
