      Hvitserk is the true definition of a Berserk. Even more than Bjorn, he is an absolute maniac on the battlefield and a force to be reckoned with. He just lacks the strategic mind of his brothers, but he is fearless. You can literally feel the adrinaline-rush by just watching him.

      I literally came here to say that... Ivar stops the battle in order to give up his horse, meanwhile my mainest man Hvitserk laughing like, "I was about to dance with you, and then you got your brains bashed in by a Berserker ... Hah Hah Hah Hah Hah!" looool

      @devarmont87 11 месяцев назад +9

      I doubt that is the intention...
      It's probably more accurate that Ivar knew that the shame would be greater if he fell from his horse a second time and wanted the Englishman to be dishonoured at the peak of his fighting ability rather than die in the mud. Makes for a more brutal prideful fall...
      That's what I see here.
      No respect whatsoever

    • @mrdrebin123
      @mrdrebin123 9 месяцев назад +8

      @@devarmont87 Ivar explains this later... It was out of admiration and jealousy.. For he saw Heahmund like how he wanted to be.. Able to actually not only be a tactical genious.. But earn his victory with hard won blood, sweat and tears...He saw a man despite difference of faith, loom between his faith, and his nature as a warrior for Heahmund was a sinner a great sinner, but above all else he was a warrior, the thirsts for that feeling of blood pumping, warm blood of your enemies on your cheeks. Show Ivar knew his cruelty was too far at times, but it was a way to over compensate the fact that he couldn't be a presence on the battlefield just like Bjorn.. And just like Heahmund.

      Ivar is such a unrealistic character. He would not have existed or survived in those times in history. They should have listened to the woman historian that they had on set. She told them that it was not the word boneless they based his character on. The word was ruthless. So Ragnar's son was actually called Ivar the ruthless. Which makes much more sense and would have made him more interesting and more dangerous. Also he would not have been such a unbelievable character. I mean come on if he had no bones in his legs no way could he stand and move the way he does in the show. Even in this modern world you can't let go of your crutches and stand then move and fight with a sword. He would be face down on the ground.

    Honestly, I could see something like this happening in history quite often. There are all kinds of insane stories in the pages of history. Some stranger than fiction. Also, there are amazing rivalries in war. If you need an example, look into Hannibal and Scipio Africanus. Particularly, research Scipio's obsession with Hannibals tactics and their final conversation after Hannibals defeat.

      You and me both. But I think with all the build-up, there was supposed to be a payoff. Hirst had outright said that there was supposed to be more done with Heahmund, but his actor left the show after some personal tragedies, which would explain his abrupt death.

    If you think that the king Salah El Din was impressed in the king Richard Lionheart, you are wrong or you didn't choose the right word. He gave him a horse by respect, because for some people there's rules to follow even in the times of war.

    I think that what is intended to show is not honor. but a game of manipulation and superiority. ivar is up and headmund is down. Ivar sees everything, decides when to stop the battle and when to continue, decides who will die and who will not. ivar controls the times he wants to make headmund notice. also use the taunt for that

      @Son Gohan Well written. It's a disappointment because I thought the first 3 seasons were written pretty well (despite the obvious historical inaccuracy). The arrival of Bishop Heahmund carried the series a little further and now the plot lines have gone to total shit. It's like your honor roll student suddenly getting a C- on his exam.
