      UncleMikeNJ the Braves were favored in that series. Better regular season record, better rotation, and they actually had played each other in an interleague series that year with the Braves winning 2 of 3. They just melted down. Also hurt by an absolutely boneheaded move to leave Tom Glavine in one inning too long in Game 3 when they were on the verge of getting back in the series and had a dominant closer who could easily go two innings if necessary. Glavine was coming off an illness and was clearly tiring and he gave away a game tying two run bomb to Chuck Knoblauch. Once that happened it was just a matter of time and they lost their last chance for a momentum shift.

      @@ADEAL918 Na'ah...the Braves were absolutely the underdogs in 1999. I remember it vividly. Maddux pitched so well in Game 1, it felt like it might be an awesome change for them to get the 1-0 lead, but the Yankees found a way like they always did to manufacture the runs to win.

    • @ADEAL918
      @ADEAL918 4 года назад +2

      Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot i don't know how odds are determined in a case like this, honestly, but just pointing out all the very legitimate reasons the Braves actually matched up quite well against this Yankee team. Again, had played them in interleague during the season and won 2 of 3, better regular season record by 5 games, and all four pitching matchups favored the Braves, at least ERA-wise--Maddux vs. Hernandez, Millwood vs. Cone, Glavine vs. Pettitte, and Smoltz vs. Clemens. The Braves starter had the lower ERA in all four of those match-ups. Yankees may have had a slight edge in their lineup and certainly an edge in the bullpen--Rivera gave them that over anyone. But this series had no business ending in a sweep and that was helped along by those Braves starters in Games 1 and especially 3 being left in for far too long.

    Sort of an anti-climatic final at-bat to this NLCS, the Braves marched out to a huge lead in this game only for the Mets come back & tie it on Piazza's HR late, they kept going back & forth in the next couple of innings, the Mets were desperate to try & win this game & force a Game 7, but...not to be. The Mets just couldn't quite complete the comeback as much as they tried. Braves foiled the Mets' bid that year for a Subway Series. The Mets eventually got their the following season....but ultimately both teams would lose their respective Series appearances vs the vaunted Yankees.

      1999 NLCS would have been the greatest NLCS if Mets forced a game 7. You gotta have a game 7 to be considered: For me, its:
      For NLCS = 2003 and 2004 (its a tie).
      For ALCS = 2003.
      Honorable mentions of LCS that were great with only 6 games: 1986 NLCS, 1997 ALCS, 1997 NLCS, 1999 NLCS.

    I'm a lifelong Braves fan but man, what a cheap way to win the NLCS

    Holy cow that was a terrible 3-2 pitch. Not even close.

    Yeah but the Braves would go on to lose the World Series to the Yankees 4 games to 0. The following year 2000 the Mets would to the World Series and loose to the Yankees 4 games to 1 in the subway series.

    The Mets were the only New York team the Atlanta Braves defeated in the MLB playoffs.

      Zephead76 Braves are still the team of the 90s. They just couldn't secure it most times.

      Nick Perez how are they the team of the 90’s? They went to 5 WS and lost 4 of them. The Yankees went to 3 of them and won all 3 of them and beat the Braves twice in them. Plus had more titles than any other team in baseball that decade and a 114 win season that ended in a title.

      “We swept the Braves in the WS...” So, how many hits did you have in that World Series? Or, maybe you pitched an inning or two? Stop saying “We”. It’s pathetic.

      bigeric1030 lol so saying we in support of my team is pathetic? Ok smh must be another dumbass yankee hater. Especially because you’re pinpointing that I said we and NOTHING else from my post.

      This braves team was severely depleted and was one of the worst of the run. Lopez missed the second half of the season, smoltz was injured for the playoffs and galarraga was out the entire year. I was shocked that they made the WS. The 97 and 98 teams were much better
