On muscle cars back in the day it literally meant you would take a straight piece of pipe and run it back from the headers with no resonator or cats. Now everyone with an after market exhaust says the straight piped the car.
They still had bends bc of gas tank, diff, axle etc. I know what you mean by the rear/mid engines having lots of curves, but straight pipes mean straight out the back with no resistance (cats). 🙂
@@ObsessedGarage Frankly anybody with no cats, resonators, or mufflers is “straight piped”. I love your content, but I’m gonna have to say you are wrong on this one, sorry.
Shoutout to Porsche for still offering manual transmissions. Autos sure is faster, but nothing beats that manual shifts and feelings. Plus it just completes the interior looks.
OPF stands for Ottopartikelfilter. It is basically a filter out of an highly porous ceramic component, which will stop a big part of the carbon output to flow out of the exhaust.
Matt: “Anyone who complains about the gears being too long is an idiot.” Also Matt: “Gee, it’s hard to get to redline with these gears. Top of third is like 100”. It’s a shame that the gears are as long as they are. In theory, they allow you to drive long stretches with very little shifting. And the powerband is significantly wide to not have to shift often. But with an engine that sweet, you just WANT to wring it out, and with the gearing as is, you can only do that twice, three times on the highway. It’s a shame. Definitely doesn’t ruin the car, but a shame nonetheless. Was the biggest frustration with my 991.1 C2S. That was even worse with the 7 speed manual. You could cruise the highway in 5th. Car sounds good, but I agree, a little more amplitude would be welcome. Also, with the heel / toe, I’m size 13 and have duck feet. My “heel-toe” is more like “left forefoot brake, roll ankle right, right forefoot stab gas. I installed the Rennline adjustable throttle pedal which has a bunch of adjustment and it really, really helped. I found the pedal extension on top was too much as I would hit the gas while braking, but the extension on the bottom and the top pad out slightly worked great.
The gears are definitely too long, they make a shorter final drive that will help significantly, but that also means 6th gear on the highway will suffer.
Once you've had your fun with the 718, sell it, buy a 981, install a deman 4.5L conversion, short ratio gearbox, lightened flywheel, dundon intake runners, headers and exhaust, tune. Document it on RUclips. Happy days!

Glad you didn't go with total crap like fabspeed, soul is fine you'll likely be happy with it glad to see you doing the exhaust again it's so needed.
Sounds great. Straight pipe means, no flow obstruction from headers back. My ZL1 has a muffler with valves but headers and no cats. It’s not straight pipped.
My audio is not all over the place. I'm pretty sure my mic adapter is toast. The last video I did in the Civic was with the new Hero 9, that apparently doesn't work with an external mic. This one was back on the Hero 7, and the mic didn't work.
LOVE rev match. Feet size/pedals not easy for heel toe, even with Piloti driving shoes. You should definitely join Tour DeLux Rally for some driving tours! Good time and array of rides!
hey matt! so, particulate matter refers to a mix of solid and liquid particles that may be suspended in the air or exhaust gases, and what people say is that it may be one of the main causes of pollution and intensification of the greenhouse efect. particulate filters have been very common in diesel engines for a while, and they started using it in the gasoline direct injection engines due to the new european emission standards. so basically, they're a filter that remains closer to the engine, thus hotter, and this heat combined with some substances of the OPF are responsible to reduce hydrocarbons molecules, nitrous oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide that are produced during the fuel combustion into small amounts of carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water.
I had a Formula Ford driving course 25yrs ago where they made you drive in and out of the pits and on the front stretch going up and then down the gears around and around many times. Find a big parking lot or deserted road you can repeat 1-2-3-4, 4-3-2-1 with heel-toe over and over. It doesn't have to be extreme rpms. Then call us in the morning like a doctor and report back......
Maybe it was my home speakers, but with the valves open all the time, it came off as a little boomy when you were just cruising. That would annoy me to no end on the highway or freeway when cruising.
Porsche says the cans are (obviously) in there but the stuff between the screens you can see when you look inside is not. You’d have to weigh them or cut them open to see what’s true.
Heel - Toe is definitely a cool tool to know how to do. I find it harder to do on the street when there is no urgency. Maybe that's an issue for you too. On the track with huge braking and deceleration happening you just rock thru the motions and Walla, it happens just like the OE program. Practice without the engine running for foot position and coordination, then on the street without the braking component to see how much throttle to apply. Then put it together on the street slowly and then somewhere you can decel fast to try a track simulation. Let us know. It takes practice.....
Straight piping is an aggressive form of deep throat oral sex. This is when a girl lays on her back on a bed (or some other object) and tilts her head back over the edge so her throat is no longer at an angle....Matt you agree with this definition? ;)

Look into the company VAREX they make super quality valved exhaust and you'd be able to open and close your valves via a remote. Did it to my car and love it.
Matt do you think you would fit a GT3 RS bonnet to the GT4. Nice subtle lines on the bonnet and a bonus that it's Carbon fibre so quite a bit lighter than the stock bonnet.
Matt, how do you get your blend mount to be so stable? I know you mentioned one of yours jiggled or bounced. The one in my 981 Cayman S jiggles like crazy...
I guess the exhaust modification is making it more difficult to hear what you’re saying 😉. Is it me, or at lower RPMs does it sound like an ‘80s 911 Turbo 🤔?
I belive the active OPF is a version of the core you are seeing in yours but the matrix is further coated and the pores are a bit smaller. So its unacceptable with the valves connected, eh? Thats what John at SOUL said too..makes sense based on the valve logic. Why even run a muffler then? But a valve controller will be a decent option
Matt - I couldn't heel-toe until I drove on a track and was forced to do it under hard braking. Found it impossible on the street with light city braking to manage throttle blips. Much more intuitive when driving harder believe it or not.
Check out Archie Hamilton racing. His friend has a straight pipe setup through JCR and it’s the best sound I’ve heard for a GT4. It’s amazing! You have a great sounding car as well, but go check it out. No disrespect, love your Porsche content. ✌️
I don’t think straight pipes refers to there being no curves. I’ve always considered it to mean no cats/resonators/mufflers.
