I've seen enough Goonzquad videos to know those guys are pretty humble and talented. That comment may have been a tad harsh. My guess is their videos just cater to a different audience.
Yeah, they are young and talented folks. I love them :) sometimes I cringe because they aren't doing something super exactly ammm obsessed but it's great to watch them learn everything themselves, like assembling overrated armytrix exhaust for a nice car :D
Goonzquad rebuilds things from the ground up and are very talented and rarely outsource anything except framework due to not having a frame table. Matt can't change a mirror without messing it up...
I think soul talked about it's the same GPF but there is no back sensor. Hence the bubble on the back of the filter on the sides. The euro spec has that area cut and fitted with the spot for the sensor
Damn, that sounds good. I wasn’t really a fan of how “grunty” the stock engine is. But opening it up sounds REALLY good. You can definitely hear it’s not as high pitched as the 981 (which is just a 991.1 Carrera S engine) nor of the GT3’s 4.0 liter. I think it sounds a lot like an air cooled race car. Wicked.
@@ObsessedGarage From what I've heard, I prefer aftermarket 718 GT4 to aftermarket 981 GT4 but agree that the 981 has it over the 718 if you compare stock to stock. The 981 is overall too raspy sounding for my tastes, and I also dislike pops and crackles.

You should have wrapped the pipe with thermal insulation. The cayman engine bays get very hot and the motors heat soak. Secondly, the heat coming off the down pipe can heat up the brakes/brake lines, which also can be an issue draining on track.
@@ObsessedGarage Since you took out that stupid gas filter the system wont heat up as much. Never had a problem like that on my 981 GT4 on the track with a full GT3 exhaust conversion doubt the 718 will be any different once you do the mid pipe swap.
Sounded like with the oem rear unit and the soul OAP that you were getting some burbles and pops style backfires - was this true??? Do you think the OAP needs heat shielding like the akropovic and Flat6 heat shielded OAP name sake product?

@@ObsessedGarage Figured as much don’t know if you saw the keynote but the new phone is going to have a MagSafe type connector a built-in magnet wondering if you’re Rennline Will work without the supplied magnet. Don’t know your relationship with the rennline maybe you could get with them and see if they’re working on a powered mount that would be pretty sweet just stick the phone to the mount and it charges as well no wires pretty clean now all Porsche has to do is come out with wireless CarPlay and you’re all set enjoy the videos very much have a good one.
Well shit, I'm doing the same install. Passenger side removal and install was fine. Driver side one of upper studs got jammed while backing out. Letting it soak in PB blaster right now, but I think I might have to cut the stud like you did, or pull the rear bumper and exhaust off. :(
Hi, Matt. Just got a GTS 4.0. I'm currently doing the Soul valve controller and considering doing the resonated Soul OAP. This is sort of a daily driver (also have company car), but that just means I don't want too much drone, that I gotta keep it somewhat quiet in the neighboorhood and I want to be able to close the valve and listen to the stereo when just cruising on the freeway. OTOH, during much of my driving Id like to open up the PSE and hear her sing. Is doing OAP only viable for that?

Hi Matt. I'm a 718 Cayman GT4 owner (also Gentian blue), I installed the Akrapovic Slip-On Race Line (rear silencer) and the Link-Pipe set (= over-axle pipes) and the sound was CRAZY ! I had to put the stock over-axle pipes back because of sound regulation at Spa Francorchamps. But you definitely should consider this exhaust made of titanium. And as you are even more meticulous than me, the astonishing build quality of Akrapovic will make you happy !
Surprising that they put the filters in without use because there's a good amount of expensive materials in them. They usually scrap for over £100 so can Imagen manufacturing isn't cheap
"This should come right out"... Famous last words Also on an unrelated note is the GT4 ironically the new GT3? If you think about it the price is about where GT3's of old sat, the newer ones have huge price tags along with huge amounts of depreciation. To me the GT3 was an aspirational sports car, but it was attainable for the "common" person who worked really hard. Now it's become a stretch for those folks, it's almost into supercar territory.
Is the depreciation only with the 991.1? I could understand that depreciation for lack of transmission options, the few that caught on fire, and the successor having more power, a new engine, and a manual.

Archie Hamilton Racing showcased the full JCR system on the 718 GT4 and was high pitched and raspy not good sounding(AKG K553 PRO headphones), but Cars with Luke had a JCR setup that sounded good.

You only tear down a car for a “build” if you drive a shitty car, like a 3 owner beat up 350z worth $4k. Or similar beat up depreciated cars you buy once it’s been abused by the previous 3 owners 🤣
Haha ok. Well I love mine. Followed your exhaust journey on your GT3 and ended up going with a JCR race pipe on my GT3 after trying other exhausts. Best sounding exhaust by far. Amazing quality and welds too.
Most , if not all your videos are very informative. Love watching them. But the I have noticed, at the start of pretty much all your videos, you let out this “sigh / grunt” , like in your head, your sick of making them. Or like, you’re thing “why the f*ck am I doing these videos”

It's still a little hollow sounding. I made an in-car video today that will be up tomorrow. I also disconnected the valves.

The US has filters it’s just unmonitored so no ECU adjustments needed when removed

Matt, the US market cars have exactly the same filter as EU cars, the only difference is that in the US the filters are unmonitored. I.e no CEL

I would definitely do nonres. Your valve controller will give you full control.

Exhaust are one of the most simplest installations you can do on a car. Its basic. So by no mean makes you a technician.
You're making reconsider getting a manual gt3 with these vids of the gt4 lol looks and sounds great and is about 80k cheaper lol
Plus its smaller, mid engine, so better handling
There is no replacement for the GT3 engine.

Agree with you Matt in terms of how the car sounds post installation. Might be a better setup if you went for a set of JCR exhaust.

Not a fan of the sound. Check JCR exhausts in the UK. The make one for the 718 that sounds like the 981.

Gen1 C8RS agreed. Full system is too much noise and loses tone but just the rear JCR back box section is nice
