Completely disagree about your comments concerning the 992 GT3. It is without a doubt the absolute easiest car I have ever driven at the track to lay down quick times, almost too easy. So easy that it has taken some of the fun out it. Compared to my prior GT3s and RSs it’s so amazingly stable in the turns thanks to the grip provided by the front suspension. The front grip is improved for sure but it’s the stability provided in the turns which is the biggest improvement in my opinion. My GT4 RS arrives this summer, eager to compare them at track. I wonder if tires were an issue on the GT3 you were driving? Good video
My guess is you’re a more experienced 911 Porsche and track driver than we are, in which case we actually agree. Our argument is as novices the GT4RS gives more confidence and forgiveness resulting in better lap times, for the average driver, but that if you know how to drive the GT3 well, it’s the far superior car at putting down quicker lap times.
I own all three...992 GT3 Cup car, 992 GT3 (manual), and GT4 RS. The Cup car is a different beast. I still haven't broken in my GT4 RS yet. My 992 GT3 RS is getting on the ship now and will arrive next month.
Caymans in general easier to drive, with GT3/GT2 it's all about balancing their weight on corner entry while Caymans are just simpler and drive normal..... But once you get used to 911 driving it becomes easy to drive I have now GT4RS + GT2RS and to me GT4RS far easier to drive.... It's like you going from novice to advanced level of cornering with one being simple other being complicated and need more brain use
I’ve got a 981 GT4 with DeMan 4.5. It was a step up from a 991.1 911S with some mods. The difference in handling from the rear engine to the mid engine chassis was mind blowing. As you noticed, it is so user friendly, not as tricky as needed to manage the 911 rear end. The 911 has a lot of understeer on corner exit compared to the GT4, a point I didn’t hear. Maybe the GT3 isn’t similar to the 911S in that measure. I have also upgraded the dampers (Bilstein Clubsport), gearing, LSD, exhaust, tires (slicks), brake pads, and more. I am not the fastest on the straights in my advanced HPDE group, but can carry more speed deeper into the corners and close the gaps. My dreams are whether a GT3RS would be worth doubling the investment. So far, sanity has held me in check on that. One guy in my group with a highly modded Cayman 4.0 has added a bigger wing and a big front splitter, and now corners quicker, leading to faster lap times. That’s been interesting to see.
@@e.r.6147 I mean you could say the same thing about basically any car lol you could take a base model and buy aftermarket parts to make it look like the performance model for any car
Ex 911 owner, now mid engined Ferrari owner. You have to drive a 911 neatly to get the most out of it. The weight is at the back and over the driven wheels, which means you want to maximise that for lap times. Messing with the balance (as one might try with a mid-engined car) is not ideal in a 911. Drive a 911 neatly and fairly conventionally (that is, breaking early and the managing the throttle through the apex) will give you the most satisfying result - just as satisfying as trail braking in a Cayman.
Very good analysis each delivers something unique and specific to what your asking for. In my case of less track more canyon my GTS 4.0 is perfectly suited where I can overwhelm the chassis and grip limits compared to those cars with so much aero and rubber.
Hilarious calling the modified GT4 a kit car. True, though. I had to immediately put a bunch of money into the suspension, aero and exhaust upgrades on my 2023 GT4. Handling is excellent now, but I still don't have the power of an RS. No way to fix that without an engine swap, which isn't happening anytime soon, if ever. I really wanted an RS, but allocations were way too expensive when I was looking for one back in 2022 ($150K ADM on top of the $183K MSRP I had spec'd on the factory website). Both cars are limited in Oz, I was very greatful to receive an allocation to a 992GT3 (34yrs of 911 ownership). Haven't driven a 4RS and not really chasing one anymore. After many chats with people etc, it is all about the sound and that bit more on the track. ON the road the 3 is awesome too. The 3 will always be the king of Porsche (except GT2s, CGT etc), I have still not found the limits of the new 3, it is so much better than the last few that I have owned. If you can afford it, get one, and it will hold it's value too.
Awesome vid, fellas. You guys made some very insightful points that make alot of sense. Its a win-win-win situation whichever of the 3 you choose! If someone put a gun to my head, I'd take the 4RS.
The one thing you run into with a normal 718 GT4 would be straight line speed. You really start to miss it especially when you're chasing a GT3. Great video!
The main problem of the GT4 is the lack of a lift system for the front axle. This considerably restricts its use as a daily driver, although it does not eliminate it.
Excellent video! A very special comparison would be the new 718 GT4 RS vs the DeMan 718 GT4, with it’s 565hp, 4.5L engine! That’s the best GT4 Porsche can release on the streets against the best modified 718 GT4. 🤩
Very cool video. I am running the MCS 2-ways on my 718 GT4 and it really transforms the car (especially away from the track where the surfaces are not smooth) That is where you will find the most benefits of an MCS equipped car over stock. Tracks are mostly too smooth to exploit the weaknesses of the stock PASM and strut rear. I run 175 canister pressures and 9/9 for compression / rebound and that is a sweet combo for the street. Another benefit on the GT4 is going to a stiffer sidewall tire, as it gets rid of the lateral movements in the corners from the soft sidewall Cup 2's
The gt4 running mcs and the Club sport brake kit is not a fair comparison. That is a massive improvement over the factory setup. Suspension alone is a $10k upgrade. Brakes are another $16k.
Everyone complains about the gearing.. it’s not an issue especially driving around town or on back roads.. you are not taking it to redline and you can shift at 6 or 7,000 and won’t be disappointed.
Awesome vid. My parents lives very near Thunderhill, so I’ve watch this track evolve from its inception to what it is today. I’ve actual had the opportunity to sport drive this track a few times with Hooked On Driving club in my 06 Mini JCW. So fun, but of course nothing like hitting that tarmac in one of these fine machines featured here. 👍

Great production quality; but it's a shame that there were no lap times that I could find in the video. I'm not sure how we can describe these cars as competitive or not competitive with one another without any lap times to compare. Unless I missed that info somewhere?
Our GT3 owner put down a 2:01 in the GT3 and 2:02 in the GT4RS on Thunderhill East with Cyclone. We were a few seconds behind that, but faster in the GT4RS than GT3 by about a second. The GT4 was on competition rain tires so the test is quite irrelevant there, but that was pacing about 2:10 in the dry.
Yes, definitely. We were discussing that same thing. Probably would have been faster than the 4RS that day as well. Still, I would choose the manual in the GT3 because ultimately it would be more fun once fully used to the rest of the car. No complaints with PDK at all though...
Adjust the gt3s bars and play with tire pressures and it would be extremely easy to drive. Cars are just a few simple setup changes away from behaving completely differently.
I love how automotive media is raving about Porsche finally utilizing double wishbone suspensions. Meanwhile, Ferraris and Corvettes have been using TCA's for over 25 years.
As a novice I was looking for a gt4 for a track car before the covid price craziness. I still want one, but the gt4 rs I love. When I got quotes when I found out they were coming out the quotes for a slot were 50k more than a 992 gt3 order slot, which was already crazy. If I could get one at msrp I would find a way to order one. Even now a used one is 50-75k more than a gt3. Is the gt4rs justifiably worth that much more in cost? I don't know. Maybe I need to go to PECLA and do a comparison day
Yeah it’s out of control. GT4RS is still very new and not many cars delivered yet so if you wait a bit it may come down to closer to GT3 prices. It is an RS though and those two letters add a premium forever. Good luck!
I guess if the GT3 was pdk it might have made a difference too. Honestly I have a 991.1 GT3 (see my vids) which I've owned for 5 years in September. It's utterly astounding! But a GT4RS pending (available in June). I need to get rid of the GT3 to get the RS (wife , money, room) which is making me the most conflicted person ever. IMO the GT3 in 997, 991 & 992 iteration looks better but that sound of the RS is preposterous! Anyway back to be being conflicted. 🙄
That’s a really tough choice! It’s probably a completely different driving experience all around but since the 991.1 suspension is similar strut style as the 4RS and aero isn’t as crazy as the 992 you’re probably going to get a performance upgrade going to the 4RS all around and get to enjoy the crazy soundtrack. Let us know what you end up doing!
Awesome been waiting for the video also. I cant believe you guys rented the track!! If your going to rent Big Willow or Streets let me know please! My favorite part was when your comparing the GT4 and call it special because of the mod noises like the aftermarket racing suspension,. I call mine race car noises in my modded Cayman. What was the long story about the Bridgestone's? I am most likely going to switch to the Bridgestone Potenza RE 71RS but I believe 200 tread wear in the 18's . My shop is telling me those are the best for the Cayman since the Goodyear supercar 3r's are not available anywhere in the country. I think those Goodyear's were on the GT3 but 20's? Do you know where he gets his Goodyear 3r's love mine!
Race car noises! Haha love it. Big willow is definitely in our future this summer or fall. Basically it was forecasted to rain all day for weeks so we ended up putting on the Potenza sports which handle well on the rain vs cup 2’s but then it ended up drying out day of! They actually performed really well in the dry though for 300tw, we were impressed. So I’m sure the 71RS are a really good alternative to cup 2’s!
Thanks! Long story short it was 100% supposed to rain so we put on the Potenza’s which handle way better than cup 2’s in the wet. But then it luckily dried out for about 5 hours during that session but we didn’t have time to switch back…that said the potenza sports were surprisingly decent in the dry as well. The GT4RS is Shark Blue and the GT3 was PTS Club Blau.
I feel bad for gt3 it could do so much more with just better tires. I think if you could get your hand on a gt3 with proper Cup tires you could match or probably outmatch the gt4rs
It had really good tires on the GT3 actually, supercar R’s with 80TW. Really just came down to us as drivers and that being the first GT3 track day for us. One more day and we definitely would have been beating the 4RS and taking advantage of the GT3’s superiority!
I’m a bit disappointed by the fact you didn’t race them on the track, even alone on the track to compare the times. But it must be hard to regroup the three of them, I imagine. Hope you will do a next time. I wish you fun
Porsche really hamstrings their superior mid-mounted platform because Porsche law. Imagine if a GT4RS got the rear-steer/double wishbone treatment like the GT3. GT3s are over-engineered to perform better than the under-engineered GT4RS.
Was supposed to rain all day and Cup 2’s are useless in the rain. It dried out last minute so we were stuck with the Potenzas but they were surprisingly decent in the dry
Our GT3 owner put down a 2:01 in the GT3 and 2:02 in the GT4RS on Thunderhill East with Cyclone. We were a few seconds behind that, but faster in the GT4RS than GT3 by about a second.
Love both, but I have dogs, so I'm restricted to a non Gt 911. The struggle is real. That being said, I'm over the moon in love with my Macan. Just a warning, if you buy a Porsche, people will be jealous...fuk em tho, they're great cars.
The leading camera car was a cayenne turbo. That thing was hauling ass for some of those shots actually. But some of them were just b roll yes. And none of them were actual hot laps since it wouldn’t be leading then. We tried!

@@aramistaboada5696 I am in Oz, you won't be able to get a 4RS for less than $100 over MSRP.
If you can afford it, get one, and it will hold it's value too.
great video! glad it's getting a lot of views
Thanks!
Awesome vid, fellas. You guys made some very insightful points that make alot of sense. Its a win-win-win situation whichever of the 3 you choose! If someone put a gun to my head, I'd take the 4RS.
Thanks man! We’re in the same camp as you…for now
The one thing you run into with a normal 718 GT4 would be straight line speed. You really start to miss it especially when you're chasing a GT3. Great video!
Thanks! And definitely agree with that
The main problem of the GT4 is the lack of a lift system for the front axle. This considerably restricts its use as a daily driver, although it does not eliminate it.
you can easily add a aftermarket lift system@@1q2w3e4r5t6zism
Was waiting for this one! Great video.
Thanks Nic!
Excellent video! A very special comparison would be the new 718 GT4 RS vs the DeMan 718 GT4, with it’s 565hp, 4.5L engine! That’s the best GT4 Porsche can release on the streets against the best modified 718 GT4. 🤩
That would be awesome…the DeMan 4.5L may be the final chapter of our GT4 in which case we’ll definitely do another track comparison with the RS!
Sounds like the mid engine configuration and balance was really noticable to them.
Absolutely
Great content! Great video, guys!
Thanks man!
that track looks AMAZING !
It is!
Yessss! Been waiting on this one!
What trailer are you using for your GT4rs?
Futura Lowering Trailer, it's awesome!
Just astonishing comparison. Great job guys. On 🔥 RUclips Channel. 👍
Thanks a ton!
The gt4 running mcs and the Club sport brake kit is not a fair comparison. That is a massive improvement over the factory setup. Suspension alone is a $10k upgrade. Brakes are another $16k.
Great video guys!!! The answer i knew i wanted from the right level of skilled drivers … GT4 still my dream car (w/ shorter gears)
Thanks Fernando! That is definitely a dream worthy car!
Your mini was still probably fun! HOD is a great group & glad you got to take your car out and give it a whirl
you guys are killing it. 4 months and already 1.3k subscribers. with the planning and quality of videos, it makes sense. kudos. ....but i think i need to add a porsche to my lineup to give my amateur videos at least a bit of auto-appeal 😅. keep killing it! subscribed.
Thanks man! You keep grinding too!
Thunderhill 5mi is my favorite track here in NorCal. Unfortunate that track day groups tend to stick to the 3mi config
I agree
@@carhoney GT3 had 1:59:89 by my count!
Note: That was with a seasoned tracky who had been racing for 5+ years. Team STEVE!!
Excellent video and comparison! 👌🏻
Thanks! 👍
Hey, it's Thunderhill, my home track!
Great track!
Fun track. Definitely haul ass on that straight away.
good stuff guys!!
How do u not have more subs??? I just hit that button!!
Thanks Roger!!
Curious if you would have found the GT3 more manageable with the PDK?
Yes, definitely. We were discussing that same thing. Probably would have been faster than the 4RS that day as well. Still, I would choose the manual in the GT3 because ultimately it would be more fun once fully used to the rest of the car. No complaints with PDK at all though...
Adjust the gt3s bars and play with tire pressures and it would be extremely easy to drive. Cars are just a few simple setup changes away from behaving completely differently.
One more day in the GT3 would make a world of difference too
Great job! Now y'all need to get a ZL1/1LE (Manual at that) in your hands!
That would be cool!
Great video!!!
Thanks!
How much does Thunderhill cost for A DAY. Access to slip pad too?
I think I just recently purchased that exact gt3. 😂 I noticed the small decal on the driver 1/4 glass which it still has.
Well if it is then we can tell you the previous owner took excellent care of it! Congrats!
Great video
Amazing cars 👀
Good luck!
@Car Honey yeah unfortunately it might go up with the 2023 price increase that just happened, and the 2024 end of production for the gt4.
Guy with the glasses is STONED
Would be interested to see you guys in a PDK gt3 vs gt4rs
Enjoyed your video. Great job. What is the story on the 300 thread wear tires on the GT4RS, also what is the color of this car?
I have the OMP Tow Straps but mine don't sit flush/level like the 2 in this video! I must have gotten duds? Or there's a trick to it?
Stay hydraded, dudes.
Thanks!
I’m a bit disappointed by the fact you didn’t race them on the track, even alone on the track to compare the times. But it must be hard to regroup the three of them, I imagine. Hope you will do a next time. I wish you fun
Us too. The conditions were just horrible and nothing was lining up that day (rain and tire issues)
@@carhoney sorry for you. But thé tain Nevers films twice AT thé same place👍
nice work
Thanks!
Porsche really hamstrings their superior mid-mounted platform because Porsche law. Imagine if a GT4RS got the rear-steer/double wishbone treatment like the GT3. GT3s are over-engineered to perform better than the under-engineered GT4RS.
I dream about a properly developed 4RS often
would be cool to show more of the race that you do in the end, outside shots i mean
great vid still
Appreciate the feedback, thanks for watching!
I love that both cars that could be manual ARE manual.
Absolutely!
The GT3 is the better car through corners, more stabile and traction. Owned a GT4 and GT3.
Would be fun to compare to my Spyder at some point
That would be awesome, let’s talk more!
@@carhoney Sounds great!
800 subs with this kind of content...?
Cheers Milo!
i dont care who wins, if money was not an issue it would be the GT3 for me, no brainer.
In 10 years the GT4 RS will command 4 times the price of the others. If you can get one today, you are lucky.
Great content guys. Got a sub from me. Keep it up.
Thanks a lot Luc, cheers!
what did you say at 5m 57s?
I curse too much and I had a goal of not saying fuck in this video and it came out, holy... god? 🤣
What's up w the potenzas? Why are they on it?
Was supposed to rain all day and Cup 2’s are useless in the rain. It dried out last minute so we were stuck with the Potenzas but they were surprisingly decent in the dry
What, no lap times?!
Our GT3 owner put down a 2:01 in the GT3 and 2:02 in the GT4RS on Thunderhill East with Cyclone. We were a few seconds behind that, but faster in the GT4RS than GT3 by about a second.
What alignment is the track gt4 setup with?
-2.8 front and -2.4 rear
Why not share the lap times as anecdotal feedback is great but its merely subjective
Missing Porsche 992 GT3 Rs 😂
Good cars
The best
GRANDE PORSCHE 🇮🇪 ❤️ 👍 🔝
Yes!
Love both, but I have dogs, so I'm restricted to a non Gt 911. The struggle is real. That being said, I'm over the moon in love with my Macan. Just a warning, if you buy a Porsche, people will be jealous...fuk em tho, they're great cars.
there was no race
does 4rs understeer?
A bit, but can be adjusted from factory settings to help
Something feels disjointed about the in car video and the outside. It looks so slow on the out of car shots. Is that just b roll?
The leading camera car was a cayenne turbo. That thing was hauling ass for some of those shots actually. But some of them were just b roll yes. And none of them were actual hot laps since it wouldn’t be leading then. We tried!
So which one do I buy ? Lol
Starting to burn the tires looks nice but it is stupid.
The best one is the GT3 RS, which you didn't test. 🙂
992 GT3RS definitely getting reviewed down the road once more available in the US
Which one is more overpriced?
GT4RS
GT3 looks better. That’s all that matters
Where’s the GT3 RS
GT2 ???
Next time...
gt4 poor mans porsche 911
:( No GT2 :(
need more convo
Most average guys can’t buy an RS
The RS is not an average car.
Lap times or it didn't happen
Our GT3 owner put down a 2:01 in the GT3 and 2:02 in the GT4RS on Thunderhill East with Cyclone. We were a few seconds behind that, but faster in the GT4RS than GT3 by about a second.

17:20 GT4RS yeah but….. $350k 😅😅😅 overpricedddddd 😢😮😮
