Recently got this one on a whim and am loving it. As someone who also enjoys rum, I really enjoy this. It's easy to drink and would suggest it to anyone else who enjoys rum or sweet/tropical flavors. Great video guys, thank you for the content!
I just bought this. LOVE IT!! But I don't like peat. I don't like medicine tase...it does down a little too smoothly. But dang.....it's delicious. It is my budget scotch right now!
This is less than $30 a bottle in Chicago. I might try to pick one up for the Thursday Live Show. I do find it interesting that you are critical of a distiller creating a bottle with a strong finish .... well as long is it isn't the Holy Grail Sherry Bomb where you can't even get a hint of the underlying scotch flavor. Oh well each to their own. I am sure I will enjoy my bottle when I get it.
Tom had a whisky bonfire night at my brother's. We worked this bottle. Delicious and for the price... crazy I went to Kenwood liquor in homer glen near Joliet steel.
I've been sailing on the rum ship for a long time. I have never been interested in scotch as it was just too overwhelming in my youth. I bought this Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve today and is literally the first bottle of scotch I have ever bought. I am surprised how much I like it!!!...until I watched this video. But hey, because of this bottle, I will explore scotch further. May the exploration begin!
Although the finish is short, I love this whisky. To each their own but if you're looking for strong dark coffee, you don't get a sugary latte. The sweetness is a nice change from the heavily peated scotches (which I also love). I would love to try another distillery's version of rum finished scotch. It's a fun journey!
I realise that this is now two years later, but I just bought my first bottle of this from my local store for an offer price of £25 ($30), bargain!. Quite enjoyable too
thanks for the review. for something like this you could've invited someone with a Rum palette as well to get their opinion given sipping rums is a big genre on its own.
A few friends and I visited Dewar's Aberfeldy distillery on the 15th of this month. The tour was amazing and the tasting afterwards was unreal. They too do a Dewar's 'Caribbean Smooth' which I think you guys reviewed. It too is pretty bad. The only whiskey I like with a rum finish is also an NAS whiskey. The Teeling 'Small Batch' Irish whiskey takes the rum finish really well. It's nicely presented at 46% ABV and while it is a sweeter dram, it has quality behind it.
Good review fellas... tho I'm in agreement with Shawn on this one. I'm with him... i love rum... so when i picked up this bottle for $38 outside of philly, i was like WOW... this has such a unique flavor profile... for me, it was like scotch & rum had a baby 😄. I definitely agree this is more for mixed drinks...just like Monkey Shoulder but Monkey Shoulder has more complexity. I'm not a veteran like you guy's but I'm not a newbie either 😄 ... I think you guy's palates are so good. Something like this will definitely fall short. But if your a new scotch drinker... I would definitely recommend picking this up & Monkey Shoulder! Both will run you about $70 & you can play around with the flavors. I'd give it a solid 2.5 ... it doesn't kill your pockets & if you don't like it neat, it will be the life of the party for a Pina Colada 😅😅 🍹 Either way...you can't go wrong. Cheers gents 🥃😎
New to the channel and new to Scotch in general. I picked up a bottle of The Glenlivet 12 yr old and found it to be incredibly smooth. Up to this point (in my 40's), I was strictly American whiskey and bourbon. After The Glenlivet, I found myself wanting more! Which brought me to your channel which is great by the way! Deciding that I wanted to try another bottle from The Glenlivet, this one caught my eye. But after this review, think I too will pass. So my search continues
Makes a lot of sense to see more and more rum finishes popping up. Rum is going up in popularity and thus rum casks are more widely available (and cheaper). I've yet to really explore how the rum cask effects scotch, but in my mind I think I won't like it. I'll pass on this Glenlivet expression, maybe get a glass some day somewhere.
The whisky world is trying more and more barrels from every source possible due to cost. Wine and rum would seem to be good cheap options but thus far the opinion is out, mostly negative. There's little sense in ex-rum for me. Quality rum has hit the market and if you like that style buy rum full on.
Great review, appreciate the honesty. I almost grabbed a bottle of this because it was only $32. I enjoy the Balvenie 14 Rum Cask especially when I can find it under $70. So thanks for saving me $32 + tax! Because I most likely would have agreed with Andrew and givin it a 1. Now, can we please get back to reviewing scotch over $40?!? First Buchanan's and now this...sheesh!!! Love your channel of course, Cheers!!!
A better option for anyone wanting a rum -finished whisky where the rum doesn’t overwhelm the normal whisky flavors is the Teeling Small Batch. And it’s only $36.
Glad you guys reviewed this but I have to disagree on the results. It's definitely no balvinie Caribbean cask but it's pretty good and for under 40$ I will keep this one around for daily drinking. Also I heard you were going to review the mezcal Dewar's. I love mezcal and the smoky finish on that is amazing. It is however unlike any scotch
I have never had a rum finished whisky that I cared for. It just doesn't seem to add much of anything. Rum finishes and white wine finishes,... no thanks. Sherry or bust!
I bet, if the bottle's box would have not had some palm trees and the words rum or Caribbean on it, they would have score it differently , hehe, anything that point down to the Caribbean or Mexico, not good for them, whatever is pointing north, Scotland, the highlands is all good with Andrew and most of you, Shawn is deferent more neutral with his reviews, I always appreciate Shawn reviews ,
I agree with you guys! This one is nothing special. Glad I was able to get a 50ml bottle for around 3.00 $ while I was purchasing some other and better stuff. I did like the 14 congnac cask however.
Andrew says, not meltiness flavor in that whisky, wow, in general the glenlivet is one of the best priced scotch with malt and fruit, just think again guys,
Enjoyable review as always lads. This concept does not rock my boat to be honest. First of all, the lack of transparency. It's a NAS so no idea how young it is or what kind of cask it was in before the finishing cask. What kind of rum was in the finish as well? - Well said Andrew. We don't know but it's a massive range of flavours. You might as well be as vague as to say 'whisky finished in an ex-whisky barrel'. It tells us nothing. Secondly, what's the point of this? If you like some rum character go and buy some rum - well said Drew. It's probably much better than this. The price is okay but so is tinned spaghetti. It's a pathetic corporate offering in the mish-mash swill of the whisky world right now.
Hard to believe 'scotch' of this quality get air time. They should be ignored. Plenty of MUCH better alternatives out there if you really have to do these special cask maturations. Springbank 15 rum cask for example

I found it to be quite pleasant and drinkable.
Me too. Very easy drinking

This is one of THEEEE best scotches ive ever had. Could easily drink a whole bottle and next day im fine. I think I may have a problem lol

They sell this for $29 here in Chicago
guys can you pls review the Glendronach 21? in the review of the 18 you said in the comments you had the 21 on the shelf ready to be reviewed.

I just entered my single malt adventure and purchased this today, but then again I like pina colada's.
How do you feel about getting caught in the rain? Ahahah, I Crack myself up! Congrats on the bottle and even more so on the journey! ~Mark

Interesting review. I doubt I'll be grabbing one of these. Still a huge fan of that Nadurra though, so all is not lost for Glenlivet!

Found it for 34 and absolutely loved it. Amazing find

Agree on the mixing aspect. Will be a banger with a coke back
Video production looks great!!!

Love this Glenlivet .. My go to for the price.. Smooth, easy no hangover

I actually liked it for what it is but to be fair i did get it for $30 bucks here in CA
A better option for anyone wanting a rum -finished whisky where the rum doesn’t overwhelm the normal whisky flavors is the Teeling Small Batch. And it’s only $36.
Nice job guys, doesn't sound like my flavor profile...lol. I loved the nose on the Glenfiddich 21, but that's comparing 🍎🍊
Truth hurts yeah... Mark I think I’d give it the same rating ! Once again great review!
Glad you guys reviewed this but I have to disagree on the results. It's definitely no balvinie Caribbean cask but it's pretty good and for under 40$ I will keep this one around for daily drinking. Why would you take this down? Failed experiment. Own it Glenlivet. There's a reason Fiddich and Balvenie's rum finishes are aged beyond 12.
I have never had a rum finished whisky that I cared for. It just doesn't seem to add much of anything.
Rum finishes and white wine finishes,... no thanks. Sherry or bust!
shoulda used the cocktail umbrellas instead of coins to cover...lol
You guys have to put Talisker 18 on the calendar ;)
have to agree with this one, much better scotch and rum cask expressions out there. On a side note any plans to do some Octomore?
The only rum cask finished scotch I ever enjoyed was the Balvenie 17 which sadly is gone
Fantastic review! Ill stick balvenie 14 if I want that journey.
Got this the other day cause they were out of the 12 year. Not bad but I prefer the spice in the 12 and especially 15.
Try Paul John classic if u want a tropical fruit bomb
Erik Wait sent me here, you'll be the 4th Whisky channel I'll subscribe to. Along with The Whiskey Tribe/Vault and The Scotch Test Dummies.

Springbank 15 Rum Wood is sublime
Great bottle for the price
It would be a good begginers whisky as it is very subtle. But the cask is there. It's not bad its not great 🤷♂️

What's the deal with the casino chips fellas?
You guys are crazy!!😅
Interesting. I need to open my bottle of this but honestly there are too many weak NAS out there. If it's the glenlivet. It has to be the 12. No doubt
Is it too sweet to be called a scotch? Is it more like liquor mix?
Andrew says, not meltiness flavor in that whisky, wow, in general the glenlivet is one of the best priced scotch with malt and fruit, just think again guys,
Damn, a 1. You backed it up.
Rum flavored scotch...oh boy..lol
Balvenie Caribbean Cask is really good though
Nothing wrong with Rum finish. You do know most Scotch is aged in Fortified wine or Bourbon casks.
@@steveno7058 really I didn't know that 🙄.. because I have never had scotch before..🤨
Very entertainment
this kind of wine is yummy

Easy 2
Not as good as the 12yo but far better than the Founder’s Reserve.
Honestly the worst whiskey experience of my life.... giving it to a hobo.... 😆
It's no ardbeg. But for €30 its a nice fruity approachable scotch.
The Glenlivet is dead 💀 to me.
Independent bottlers of Glenlivet are showing us how good it is and how far the distillery has sunk.
@@welshtoro3256 Indeed. The official bottling 18 is dropped to 40% chill filtered and I swear colour added. Hard pass from me now.
