UV resin had a tendency to “shrink” when curing! That’s why you got those weird edges! Also, if you ever decide to use resin again for anything, use a torch/lighter instead of a heat gun for popping bubbles! It’s way more effective and it doesn’t move around the resin like a heat gun does! :) it looks amazing!

They show us _not only that you are still human and not taken over by an AI through your new fully robotic highly engineered pinky finger,_ but also the struggles you had along the ways.
It proves that you decide every day to make something besides not being perfect in it. That you do it not only because you want to create something, but also because you want get better at it...

Even more fun make it a detailed scene in the centre of a patterned stained glass window like object so all the 'test' parts can end up supporting acts for centre piece! Either leaning into their differing thickness for effect - perhaps make it an arched chest lid or something similar or just bulking up the thin ones without doing the layers of paint - which with a deep pour epoxy of the same refractive index will be pretty easy. (perhaps with some extra layers added to the lowest layer counts should they be uninspiring, and if you surround the thicker star of the show with other layers it helps constrain that extreme viewing angle where the 3d effect starts to look excessively wonky).

I congratulate you on completing this epic art piece, I learned a lot from watching it. However the depth / 3D effect isn’t really showing up on camera, it might be better in person. I think darkening the fire and wings that are farther away could really help. Also if you ever wanted to try a scaled down version of this I’ve seen videos were people paint koi fish and dragons in small bowls that look amazing.

    Such a cool project!
I think it might be interesting to see you do a layered glass painting, mostly because it would
    a) enable you to go back and fix a layer if something is wonky
    b) would get rid of the limitations of resin (the curing time, the bubbles, etc.)

And one thing I really like here is because each layer gets a tiny bit blurry (lets say 99% clear), by the 100th layer it has this shallow depth of field for the background layers, as if the wing in the back is a bit out of focus, adding to the 3D effect! 😍

It's beautiful as a free-standing brick, but I think you should build a castle window around that brick, and another 3-10 layer background image (larger than this so you can see around the corners) to be a landscape in the distance behind the phoenix. The thickness of the resin in the 'window' will put it into soft 'bokeh' focus, too. You could also integrate a hidden light source for a sun...

I know it might not be something you want to hear, but acrylics during the initial cure process release some gases, so they can create extra bubbles. In theory leave the acrylics to cure exposed to air for 3 days would be the safe (but very slow) way to reduce the chance of bubbles appearing.

It looks STUNNING! FYI, If you or anyone else try this againmaybe try slicing with Cura slicer and make sure to display the Color scheme by Line Type. I think it will guide you more and also, maybe try painting in reverse? I mean frontmost layer first then revert to the rearmost layer at the end? I feel like it may look awesome even at only 10 layers thick...

As always, another amazing project with beautiful results. And as soon as you said “never again” I immediately pictured a video a year from now with 200 layers. I remember the bricks. 🖤

That looks amazing! Also had a thought when you showed the rough edges of the resin, paint them a whitish colour and create a book cover so when closed it looks like a book but when you open it you see the painting

I want SO BADLY to see you collab with Evan & Katelyn on a resin project. Your artistry mixed with their DIY skills would just be... *chef's kiss"

I actually like that random detatched feather behind the body. It gives. Nice 3D effect.
