I went for the GT Explorer because of the tank size and its more road focused nature. I actually prefer the spoked wheel look, but managed to have a reality check and accept that I wasn't really going to be tearing through hills and forests with it.
I would pick the Rally Pro. I do like touring, but I love my trail riding. The 21 inch front and less weight would suit me better. I like the bigger tank of the explorer, but I dont like the idea of adding to much weight up top for when i do the kinds of trails I like doing.
After riding them I bought the Rally Explorer. I love the bike! It's big and it takes a little time to get used to the size, even for me (184 cm) who's been riding for almost 40 years. The seat is the great. The best i ever had. And the suspension is fantastic. It's versatile, it's powerful and it sounds great 👏👍
I think we're in the minority. But it's the most off road focused version of an off road bike. And a 30 litre tank on a heavy already off road bike is a negative for me.
I've just traded my 900 gt pro for the 1200 gt pro. so far i have struggled with the extra weight at low speed mainly because of my height. i have had to invest in another pair of boots with the 2.5cm insole. i do have the low seat and it is way more comfortable than the 900 seat, but in the low position s still 20mm higher than the 900. i find there is more vibration on the 1200 compared to the 900, which does seem to get less the more i ride it. The windshield in top position seems to give me more wind noise than the 900 did. The quickshifter on the 1200 gt pro is a lot better than the 900 and i do prefer the TFT on the 900 to the 1200. I do like the shaft drive though and the hill hold. at the moment i am still running the bike in and after its first service i should notice a vast difference which i did with the 900 gt pro. the jury is out with me at the moment as i loved my 900 gt pro but i have lost a bit of confidence with the 1200 at the moment, but i will persevere and i am sure i will get to love it as much going forward.
Sir, if you don't mind sharing - how tall are you? I'm asking since I'm considering the same GT PRO and I'm 177cm (I guess that's 5'9 or 5'10 in feet conversion) and I wonder how much of a struggle it's going to be. Gotta say, I love how the bike looks though.
Hi, I'm really hesitating between the GSA and Rally Explorer. From your experience, what would you say knowing the 2 bikes, Rally Explorer or GSA? Does one of the two bikes do something blatantly better in particular? Thank you if you take the time to answer me as it is rare to find a neutral user opinion and not an "aficionado" who only knows his favourite bike. Sorry for my poor English. ✌
Picked up my Rally Pro 3 days ago. GTs don't come in matt green, I'm tall enough, found the blind spot lights kinda annoying, and don't need or want the extra weight from the larger tank. Fantastic bike, I love it already. My 4th Tiger: I had a 1050 for 10 years that I adored, got my head turned by the old 1200 engine but then never really got on with it - too big and heavy with a high C of G - it didn't want to ride how I wanted to ride. Then I had the 900 Rally Pro for a couple of years - great bike, but 50% more power for only 10% more weight did it for me when they rebuilt the 1200. The new one is genuinely worlds apart from the old one.
I started with a Tiger 800XRT then 900 Rally Pro when they first came out and I have just changed to the 1200 Rally Explorer. I also have a Honda 250 CRF. I mainly do long distance rides, recently to Italy and I am about to go to Morocco. I use the Honda for off road and the Tigers for long distances with the ability to do the odd bit of gravel. The 1200 Rally Explorer is so much more comfortable than the 900 which is noticeably more buzzy at motorway speeds and the 300 mile range is a dream. I have the lower seat which is the same height as the seat on the 900 and I haven't noticed a problem with the extra weight of 10ltrs of fuel.
I have the GT Explorer, I'm 6'm and like a slightly bigger bike but I liked the extras, bigger tank, blindspot detection. Living in the Scottish highlands every trip down to civilisation takes almost a full tank !
Damn my short legs, most adventure bikes are literally out of reach. Great practical reviews of the Tigers; and great to see some other familiar faces on your channel too. Good work 👏🏻
In the US, we are only getting the Explorer versions. After owning a GS Adventure, I discovered that I no longer have a 350 mile bladder so the extra fuel of the Explorer is lost on me. I chose the 900 GT Pro for the lighter weight, lower cost, and more nimble bike.
I took my bike into the shop for routine maintenance and they gave me a 750GS as a loaner. This is my first time with am adventure bike so I did a couple of hours of riding to get the feel for one. While I still think they are on the ugly side I can see the appeal. Very comfortable riding position, nice tech and very easy to stand up on even at 60 mph to get a bit of a stretch. Also my first experience with a quick shifter, love it , may have to see if I can retro fit one to my R9T.
I went for the GT EXPLORER, so many extras compared to the GT PRO seemed worth it for the extra $ , still waiting for delivery. I will really only use on road .
Me, I'd go for the Rally Explorer for the additional range between stops as I plan to travel unpaved roads where things like fuel can be a long way apart. And having the heated grips and seat just makes it that much more pleasant when things aren't warm and sunny and pressing on is the only option.
I did a test ride with GT pro and Rally Explorer, and the vibration put me off, I am riding at the moment a Gen 3 (2018) 1200 XRT, and it's way smoother than the current version. I think I will stick with my current xrt 1200. I did like the softer suspension on Rally Explorer.
I have read a lot about engine vibrations and despite I am looking to exchange my BMW F850 GS I would probably wait a bit longer. I thought of the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro, but probably picking a Honda Africa Twin Travel. Never again BMW.
@@radugolici-northamptonproperty I was unlucky with that unit. Full of issues, including a defecting engine acknowledged by BMW only after 14 months and 7 service inspections. The engine head has been fully replaced and so the full steering bearings, completely ruined after only 12 months. A toxic experience with BMW Motorrad Service that I don't wish anyone
I ride a GSA, 1250, which is lovely, have been out trying the new 1200, The Rally version for me, not for anything else but colour, that Green colour just rocks, if buying with my head though, would take the GT pro.
Out of these 4 it would be the GT pro because I do tarmac , can’t really see the point of a massive tank in the uk ..I want to have a walk round every 2 hours or so ..so the extra mass is not worth it for me
I just bought the GT explorer, I do alot of highway riding to and from work, so that was the best fit for me. I cant see ever going off road, but who knows.
I went for a GT pro and I ve got it since last friday. I ordered it with heated seats. I love it. Rode a T-Bird before. But the driving is so different. Dont get me wrong - the Bird is also great but the Tiger ist greater 🙃
Probably one that had some dual road capability without going the whole hog as I don’t ride interstate backroads anymore. So mainly around town, freeways and gravel roads. Apart from the shaft drive, the rear facing radar are deal-making features for me.
I chose the GT Pro, but couldn’t get one in black for ages and got a good deal on the Rally Pro instead. I do find it slightly taller than I’d ideally like (I’m 5’11}, but am getting used to it. I chose the 1200 over the 900 because of overall comfort and power plus shaft drive. Really the 900 would be better for commuting but the 1200 is better with and for my pillion. Glad I didn’t go even bigger for an Explorer, but GT Pro would have probably been the best choice for lower height and road riding. Just hope I can get the hang of the Rally at low speed!
Placed deposit for a Rally pro. Test rode the rally explorer and really liked but don’t need the range as would have to stop any way when out with friends or having to find another £2k😂)Love the shaft drive and the fact I can still do some green landing (although less technical going forward my KTM 790R will be part ex ) Used to 21 inch wheel and the bike felt really planted and flickable ,can’t wait 😀
Thank you for the excellent videos. As the majority of the roads I ride are tarmac but they are very rough, (Australian poorly maintained country roads with almost continuous hard edged bumps / transitions) would the Rally versions be more comfortable than the GT’s due to the bigger front wheel and a bit more suspension travel? Thank you.
For me and what l use it for, the gt pro are perfect, but i probably end with the rally pro cause of the looks😄. Explorer are out of the question just because of those blindspot mirrors that probably cost you a house if you drop and brake them🇳🇴☕

@@ADV-Rider-Dude how do you find it definitely helps to flat foot it but I did find that it’s not as comfortable as the standard seat but good enough 🏍👍🏍👍🏍
@@gavinfraser7784 To be honest I can't remember a difference in comfort. It does nake a big difference though. With the original seat in low setting I could just touch with my toes on both sides an to flat foot on one side I had to move my bum over quite a bit. With the low seat I can flat foot on one side with just a very slight lean so I feel a lot safer. I did not want my wife on the back at all till I got the lower seat. I just wish that Triumph would have offered the lower seat as an option when purchasing instead of forcing you to purchase another seat. I reckon there will be more than enough people wanting the lower seat in order to justify it
GT Pro for my smaller rides on light gravel and dirt roads (and a 30 inch inseam :) It is lighter and will still be great on the roads I hit ... The 900 GT with a shaft drive would be my choice ... :)
G'Day Bob, I just test rode the GT Explorer. Was really impressed, but at 180cm (5' 11"), the buffeting at any wind screen height was as bad as my old Tiger 800. They are $33k down here in Australia and for that coin, I don't want to have to look at getting an aftermarket screen. I'll go back and test a GT Pro, but they are only 2k cheaper, which seems stupid.
I have the 2012 Tiger Explorer and love the comfort and power. I did have my share or issues with it. It's now got 54,000 US miles. So for me I'd do the GT-Pro. Would like the Rally Pro but I think it'd be too tall for me.
@@jesseonamotorcycle Well considering I currently ride a Tiger1050 (which is totally road biased) I would definitely get the GT Pro - but l love my big triple so much l don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon LOL
I've heard reviews that the 1200 Rally Explorer is better off-road than the 900 Tiger is. If that's true then the versatility is amazing, how hard are you going to hit the turns anyway on a $25,000 machine.
You heard that? Weird. 900 Rally Pro is a beast and the Morraco rally race said it was full of 900 Rally Pros and they killed it in terms of performance.
Hello! One question please: do your Tigers 1200 also have: - heated grips that are not really heating - a kind of "slow shifter"? By that, I mean a quick shifter that is shifting rather slowly? (It's probably ok on the rally, but on the sporty GT... ) - is it also limited to 204 km/h (126 mph)? The GT is so firm, so planted (that's one of its strengths), with that engine and gear box and this front wheel and this firm behavior, it could easily handle 250 km/h (155 mph) I was going for a GT Pro because I think it's beautiful, it doesn't use that much fuel, it has a shaft drive and you can load a lot in the top case and the panniers. But these three things (bad heated grips and slow shifter and speed limit to 200) are a no go for me. I live close to the German Autobahn. Was it just the one I test drove, or are all of them like that? It would be a pity because on the paper, and as far as concerns the behavior of the GT Pro on the road, it would be an excellent bike! And I also noticed a strong wind buffeting at over 90 km/h (55mph), but this I could probably fix with an after market shield.... but .... who guaranties me that I'll find an after market shield solving the problem? I'd have loved to buy one, but I did not yet, because of these criterias which are not unimportant to me. Would like if it's only the one I tried, or if you noticed the same aspects (and again, it's an excellent bike, I'm not trying to put it down, I would like Triumph to make it better, so that I can buy one!) Thanks a lot!
I’ve searched the internet and YT. I still can’t find information on aftermarket exhaust pertaining to the new 1200. Have you heard anything for the states?
There are no official accessory exhausts anymore from triumph and their partners like arrow and V&H. They say that with current emissions regulations you can no longer make anything valuable to the customer. But i’m sure there’ll be something available on the aftermarket eventually. Just not an official accessory
Video, well done sir. Do you think the Tiger line is every bit as good as a Scrambler XE? I have now an XE. It’s a pretty cool bike. Thanks again for the video.
Gt pro in blue all day. But for looks I'll be keeping my multistrada. Interesting format you seemed to get a good bunch of guys you and English biker Dan are quite similar. Ps who in there right mind is going to risk dropping one of these off road at this price point🤔
I’m 5’6 so even the GT was too high already for me.. I wonder if there’s an accessories for shorter rider like me like and automatic stand for red lights 😂
See im in a predicament, im 27. Im wanting a adventure bike as im planning on doing some touring later on im the year. So i was in between thr GT PRO amd the 1250GS. Only thing that sits in my mind is, arent they deemed as an old mans bike?
Yeah I mentioned that in the original launch review and the recent comparison with the GS. But since comparing 4 bikes with the same engine here it wasn't worth going into. Tbh I don't find the vibes too bad for most riding, but the GS is definitely smoother.
I'd ignore all of these in the hope Triumph stick the Speed Triple engine in a 1200 equivalent of the Tiger Sport 660. Of course I'm probably waiting in vain as they seem determined to ignore the sports tourer market in the mistaken belief everyone wants an adventure tourer. This is why for the first time in 15 years I don't have any Triumphs in my garage.
@@alanthomas0502 I think I can help here as I was choosing between the Multi V4s and the Tiger. Both bikes are incredible. The Tiger has better brakes even though they are the same ,shaft drive, range, comfort and I would say suspension. The Duc's engine is amazing as is the fueling, it has a better TFT. I would be very happy with the Duc but chose the Triumph. I did watch the fuel gauge on the Duc move while riding it. It seems to like fuel like I enjoy beer.
Rode them all this week…all felt a bit vibey, cumbersome bland..and none were as nice as the BMW GS in terms of riding fun, comfort etc. Having said that I then took out the 900 Tiger and this seemed a much better bike…plenty of power, cheaper by far, agile and fun…still vibey though compared to the silky smooth BMW 1250 GS.
You didn't notice the better brakes, suspension and better comfort? Yes, it has vibes compared to the GS and if it didn't it would be a slam dunk on the GS. However, no GS owner will ever say there is a better bike lol. I have the GT Explorer and it would be nice to have a smoother engine that does not transmit vibes to the bars, but I guess you can't have it all.
@@davehemmerly8496 brakes were no better than the GS? And the suspension defo not as good…..the tele/paralever on the GS is fantastic ..especially loaded up for touring. As for comfort it seemed fine …but it’s difficult to assess all day comfort potential in a couple of hours test ride…The GSA is good for 600 mile days (should you want to do them!) …just my opinions of course as I really wanted to move away from the GS and have a change👍
@@davehemmerly8496 yeah it is good … it’s been on them for many years … .. tbh you are starting to come across as a bit weird .. the GS is not the best selling bike for no reason .. just putting out my own experience of many many years of touring thousands of mikes on many different bikes over the last 40 years.. it’s only my opinion so no need to get so touchy!! .. over and out
No, not an issue for me. The comfortable seat was a real selling point for me, and I don’t find it leans forward like my previous NC750X. (Pillion very happy as well.)
None!! Buy KTM if you want dirt, buy BMW if you want adventure touring, simple! Triumph doesn't offer enough to win either side, no identity and it's too expensive. Here in AU I can buy the GSA for the same money as the Explorer, now WHY would't I do that?? Of course Triumph makes good bikes, but is it enough with such competition?

With the low seat I can flat foot on one side with just a very slight lean so I feel a lot safer. I did not want my wife on the back at all till I got the lower seat. I just wish that Triumph would have offered the lower seat as an option when purchasing instead of forcing you to purchase another seat. I reckon there will be more than enough people wanting the lower seat in order to justify it
Great video, but I'd go for the tiger 900. I have a cardo the speakers arw great but dont rely on the voice command working.
Great vlog 👍🏴
Awesome Kenn that’s a lot of miles on that tiger time for an upgrade 👍🏼👌🏼
@@jesseonamotorcycle I did just get the Speed Triple 1200RR and a Thruxton RS Ton Up back in February. So probably done buying this year. 😉
@@TriumphLover lucky you 👍🏼🔥
GT Pro all day - everyday! 🙂
GT Pro is nice Anthony but in went with the Rally Explorer
@@jesseonamotorcycle Well considering I currently ride a Tiger1050 (which is totally road biased) I would definitely get the GT Pro - but l love my big triple so much l don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon LOL
@@anthonysilvestri4946 I don’t blame you lol
I’ve never thought a 21 inch front wheel feels at home on roads and roundabouts 🤷🏻♂️ GT Pro is the one for me.
Lots of triumph reviews in this channel, can u please do a katana full on review please.
The one without 3 cylinders. No? What a shame. They should have the Bonnie 1200 twin as an option in the larger frames.
Can you please make a similar video for the tiger 900 ?
I would get the Rally Pro.
Hello! One question please: do your Tigers 1200 also have:
- heated grips that are not really heating
- a kind of "slow shifter"? By that, I mean a quick shifter that is shifting rather slowly? (It's probably ok on the rally, but on the sporty GT... )
- is it also limited to 204 km/h (126 mph)? The GT is so firm, so planted (that's one of its strengths), with that engine and gear box and this front wheel and this firm behavior, it could easily handle 250 km/h (155 mph)
I was going for a GT Pro because I think it's beautiful, it doesn't use that much fuel, it has a shaft drive and you can load a lot in the top case and the panniers.
Rally Explorer is the best!
how was the heat from the motor? I have a tiger 800 and any period of time and my legs are cooking
I went with the 1200 XE ! 🤪
Nice Den 👍🏼
if you set the rally pro on sport . does it come close too the gt pro ? with driving on a normal road ?
Gt pro in blue all day. But for looks I'll be keeping my multistrada. Interesting format you seemed to get a good bunch of guys you and English biker Dan are quite similar. Ps who in there right mind is going to risk dropping one of these off road at this price point🤔
RALLY Explorer for me :)
I’m a cheap ass I would go for the standard GT! (Not shown) 👍🏼
I’m 5’6 so even the GT was too high already for me.. I wonder if there’s an accessories for shorter rider like me like and automatic stand for red lights 😂
Interesting Video. I shall certainly be adding the baffle haus to my to do list 😋
See im in a predicament, im 27. Im wanting a adventure bike as im planning on doing some touring later on im the year.
So i was in between thr GT PRO amd the 1250GS. Only thing that sits in my mind is, arent they deemed as an old mans bike?
GT Explorer please, best for me and the Missus
What about the vibe from the engine?
Yeah I mentioned that in the original launch review and the recent comparison with the GS. But since comparing 4 bikes with the same engine here it wasn't worth going into. Tbh I don't find the vibes too bad for most riding, but the GS is definitely smoother.
@@motobob I would buy one but I do a lot of motorway riding.I ride a 19 R1250R.
GT PRO 👍
So, I love my Gt Pro so much 😊😊😊
Not sat on one yet….(5’ 9” with shortish legs)….so if I can reach the ground with at least the ball of my foot….it’d be the GT Pro for sue
Haha they are tall bikes aren’t they. When I’m on uneven terrain is when it really matters.
rally pro all the way!
Rally Pro is awesome 👍🏼 I went with the rally explorer.
Can you please differentiate between rally pro and rally explorer because I couldn’t see any except for luggages and panniers
Tank size for sure, crash bars I believe, blind spot, etc I’d have to double check but it’s mostly comfort features.
Yep all of Jesse’s plus heated seats as standard 🥵
Brave person who does serious off road riding on their own tiger 1200. Laying it down would lead to a world of $ pain.
At 6'4" (195m) which one
The rally explorer for me
That’s what I went with IAN 👍🏼
I'd ignore all of these in the hope Triumph stick the Speed Triple engine in a 1200 equivalent of the Tiger Sport 660. Of course I'm probably waiting in vain as they seem determined to ignore the sports tourer market in the mistaken belief everyone wants an adventure tourer. This is why for the first time in 15 years I don't have any Triumphs in my garage.
Man I really want one... But is it weird that I want one when I think it's not as pretty as my t120? I'm in a really confused state haha
Ill go for 900 gt pro no need 1200
Is tiger better than ducati multistrada
The fuel range absolutely! Trust me I love Ducati. I wanted the Multistrada but the range can barley get me out the city.
@@jesseonamotorcycle But if we take the riding and features wise which is better?
@@alanthomas0502 I think I can help here as I was choosing between the Multi V4s and the Tiger. Both bikes are incredible. The Tiger has better brakes even though they are the same ,shaft drive, range, comfort and I would say suspension. The Duc's engine is amazing as is the fueling, it has a better TFT. I would be very happy with the Duc but chose the Triumph. I did watch the fuel gauge on the Duc move while riding it. It seems to like fuel like I enjoy beer.
On paper, based on what I do now- GT Pro.
Rally pro 4 me.
@@Hemlck The tele/paralever is so good it won't be on the next gen bike.
@@davehemmerly8496 yeah it is good … it’s been on them for many years … .. tbh you are starting to come across as a bit weird .. the GS is not the best selling bike for no reason .. just putting out my own experience of many many years of touring thousands of mikes on many different bikes over the last 40 years.. it’s only my opinion so no need to get so touchy!! .. over and out
no thanks. unless they bring out a tiger 1200 sport? maybe?
Hard to care with T doing these multiples every other year or so....
explorer 👍
That’s what I went with 👍🏼
Does anyone else find the seat slants towards the tank enough to trap vulnerable body parts that don’t take kindly to being trapped?
No, not an issue for me. The comfortable seat was a real selling point for me, and I don’t find it leans forward like my previous NC750X. (Pillion very happy as well.)
Rally pro.
If you live in Spain just go for a Japanese bike, Triumph here is just..horrible.
Triumph not again
To be honest, I'm disappointed you can't ride 4 bikes at once.
I'm working on it!
