Im a bit jealous of this literature you guys have in your mothers langauge. Reading math books, and foremost understanding the text in english is still pretty heavy for me, but ill hope it gets better overtime.

Yeah true, like in french books are often quite cryptic and English books easier to read but my English isn't that good so I'm always hesitating on which language to choose 😂

Wow, bro. That's insane. I have several math books. My calc book I used in college, which is the biggest, an ordinary differential equations textbook, a linear algebra textbook, and a few other books that I bought online - Set Theory, Intro to Topology, Discrete Math, and Proofs by jay cummings.
Books that won't get you through any course but will inspire you for a lifetime. Mathematics for the million, L. Hogben. Calculus an intuitive and physical approach, M. Kline. Understand the derivative? Feynman's lectures on physics Ch.8. Need help with calculus? The calculus tutoring book, Robert B. Ash. Understand vector calculus? First chapter of: Introduction to Electrodynamics by David J. Griffiths.

I just started going through that first chapter of Griffith’s a while ago. It looks really good.
I noticed that a lot of the books you review are classic books that were written decades ago. I am familiar with some of them from my college days. However, I am curious, are there any recently published books (1st or 2nd editions) by new authors that you like/recommend? My interest comes from curiosity to see if younger math book authors have a fresh take in writing math books and is it better or worse.

Hey MS, could you do a video on all the math needed to understand Special Relativity and General Relativity rigorously, the books and the best route in your point of view
Parts of this video suggests that comparing the contents of old textbooks to the current ones might made interesting videos. For example after watching the video, I took a look at Hall and Spencer Elementary Topology which was used as a basis for the course I took and which covered homeomorphism over only four pages in the Topological Spaces chapter and had four problems. At least according to the index which interestingly told you besides references to a topic the pages that problems for that topic are found.
Beautiful collection! I have many math textbooks as well from my college days. My oldest one is from early 1900's by G. H. Hardy called A Course in Pure Mathematics. The problems are quite challenging.

Thank you for the book listing & the accompanying URLs. Prior to 1994, I spent much time at the University of Michigan libraries to support my knowledge quest. They also supported my analysis and technical consulting. I first entered the Engineering library when I was 12-years old. The UM libraries became my Internet before the Internet.
Each major University department such as Legal, Medical, Engineering, Math, Physics, Undergraduate("the Ugly"), Graduate, Arts, Maps, more, & more. Today, I still find access to physical books very useful. I'm appalled that the Engineering library "stacks" must be stored offsite to protect them.
Some of the libraries had access restrictions like the Law School's library. I disguised myself by wearing a suit & tie & carrying a notebook sized leather case and or small leather briefcase. Worked every time.
Today the online wealth of knowledge forces me to search and filter constantly. Your reviews and filtering is of great help.
Glad to see you review an elementary algebra, a.k.a. algebra 1 book 19:18, albeit briefly😄in this video and in a previous video. I re-studied pre-algebra before my intro to quantitative analysis, a.k.a. college algebra, course, but I found that re-studying some algebra 1 before and during the course helped immensely. I honestly wouldn't have been able to pass my class without your videos. They were so similar to what we did in class, and they always cleared up so much confusion around all the difficult topics. How about Advanced Calculus An Introduction to Analysis by Fulks? Second Ed "to the Student - Finally, after all his talk, let it be said that no amount of directions on how to study can begin to replace a real and growing interest in the material" - stayed with me since 1978.
BTW Thompson book on calculus was cited by Richard's Feynman since it is one of the few books that show one can differentiate "past the intergral sign" and amayzed his fellow students by showing them the technique.

There is something noble (in the approach) wanting to learn with the use of a book. What should be central to that nobility would be the discovery of a new rule, theorem or law from one combing through no less than a hundred books. I guess that's subject matter for how the PH. D is granted or simply WHAT IS DISCOVERED is for personal use when implimenting mathematics. Is there anything of this sort you can mention in passing or is it for use exclusive to the discoverer in the sole interest of the discipline? 🙄

I love this math book series. Although I'm out of college at the moment, and for the foreseeable future - I still try to keep up my practice and you inspired me to get my calculus book out the other day and start working at the questions. Forgot how rewarding (and revealing) it can be to do so.

you have read and studied the material but now years later what topics are you functional in? Please don't think of this as criticism, it's juse in remembrance of George Carlin's 5-minute university. It teaches everything you"ll remember 5 years after you graduate from College. And if you have a minute and you want to be a lawyer ......
I have that Grimaldi Combinatorics book, the Saff Complex Variables book, and I think a few others that you named. I think I mentioned in a comment on another video that I own the Fletcher Patty book. I also have Daniel Solow's book. I've got 3 Differential Equations books and you haven't mentioned a single one of them yet. Even though DE's are my specialty, I'm starting to think I have the wrong books. LOL. Ditto with Linear Algebra, although I wouldn't recommend one of the three books I do have, which is the Strang book. I hate that book. I don't know if you have Axler's 'Linear Algebra Done Right', but it's the proof, the whole proof, and nothing but the proof, so help you God. If you don't already have it, you might wanna check it out.
I'm wondering how you're locating some of these older books. When I look, all I can find are the reprints, and a lot of those are caveat emptor.
I'm putting a few of the graduate level textbooks you have down on my acquisitions list.
I haven't seen you feature much in the way of Operations Research. I can understand if it's not really your cup of tea, but people should be made aware that Operations Research is a field with a lot of job opportunities.
Thanks for your list of Math books, you made the topic of the books interesting and fun and I have no Mathematics background. Might I suggest a product called Document Repair, it's PH neutral and is used to repair or mend book pages. It is what a book restorer would use. It's a transparent tissue paper. There is also something called cloth tape but that's really for book bindings and it comes in a variety of colors. I would recommend you don't stretch it out when mending or attaching the book cover.

What books would you recommend to self teach Algebra 1, 2, and pre calculus? I took algebra in high school and college algebra but that was 10 years ago and now will be taking pre calculus in the spring and am learning that I don’t remember anything. Thanks!
What is your opinion on Martin Braun's Differential Equations and Their Applications? I enjoyed studying it. In fact it was the last one I read before completely losing interest in Math.

My first course in Abstract Algebra was out of Pinter. Back in the day it really helped to have one's own book collection, as the profs would either reserve the texts, or other students would check them out searching for homework solutions.
