I am currently reading through the Cummings "Proofs".book. I agree that it is a bit "wordy" but that is likely because I already have a strong Maths background. Otherwise it is a great book for anyone who wants to take the next step in Maths and learn how to do proofs. He has the chapters and topics arranged nicely, he explains things well, and, I like the odea that at the end of each chapter he has a section where he introduces different topics in Maths. For example, at the end of Chapter 1 he gives an introdduction to Ramsey Theory.
Echo the point about continuing to do math/s later in life. I retired from teaching last year, but still try to do mathematical stuff, even just puzzles, every day. This channel really helps with motivation!
David - I'm with you. I went through Calc 1-3 at U. Of Waterloo back in the 70s. Im 68 now and have just started reviewing algebra, trig and Calculus from my final year in high school to prep for relearning the university calculus. Main reason is to see if I can still do it and to keep some synapses firing. And thanks to our Wizard friend here, I now have a ridiculous collection of second hand math textbooks. I'm a sucker for big thick Calculus text books.
I used that Spivak book in my college calculus class decades ago! Right now I'm working on re-teaching myself all the math I used to know. The Spivak book is gonna be like the final boss on my journey!
I buy the cube shelf bookcases because you can double your shelf space by using the front and back sides, as long as you don't have one side against a wall.
Beautiful new shelf! I recently had the same problem of chaotic stacks of books piling up everywhere, but thankfully I was able to buy another bookcase with money I won from a math bet! 😅❤
Loving the book shelf! I do want to tell you that my husband used your recommendation for intro to topology by Gamelin and Greene and got me the book for our anniversary. So thanks for recommendation 💕
Hey just wanted to talk about the Thomas calculus book. I’m in the US and we use the Thomas book in my calc 2 class. It’s assigned for the math lab hw part of the class.
Guess that's what happens when you start storing knowledge in your muscles because your brain has become full. Keep up the great content bro! You've helped me a lot :)
Hi Math Sorcerer! Definitely, Thomas' Calculus book is not an easy book. With Thomas' book I had a very good experience, at the end of the subject, calculus 2 at university in Venezuela, with a friend we were doing exercises of solids of revolution, and the last one we did took us about 6 hours to solve it, at the end when we graphed it, on paper 30 years ago, the shape was like the hull (bow) of a ship, it was the intersection of two volumes, after that we said to ourselves, we are ready for the exam! Nice videos, I follow you also in your Spanish channel, by the way, you speak Spanish quite well, where did you learn it? Greetings from Argentina
I ordered a book called Proof Is In The Book. It has different proofs in each math category like Algebra, Geometry. I suspect its going to be a difficult book. This channel says learn proofs and you can learn math easier. So I'm going to at least read the proof books. I'm actually good at computations and word problems. I already have How To Read and Do Proofs. I finished first 2 chapters of Blitzer's Intro and Intermediate Algebra for College student and got about 91 percent correct so far. I decided to skip ahead to the chapter on Rational Expression for a bit more challenge. I guess I'm going to do more from the Stewart's Calculus for something more challenging I wish all math was nothing but computations then it would be easier to do
Nice shelf!!! I am using J Gallian Abstract algebra book (Groups, Rings and Fields). What is the difference between Commutative algebra and Abstract algebra in order to learn "Algebraic Geometry" Justin R Smith for self study ????
Currently, reading Algebra by Hungerford myself. Algebra has been harder for me than other topics I've done so far, only on chapter 2 rn (The structure of groups). Any advice for people maybe newer to Algebra like me, so I can cruise through the sections? I've been going quite slow, like 1-2 sections a week, which is quite slow in comparison to other books I've read like ladr (linear algebra done right by Axler) for example. Also, what are your thoughts on maybe doing some sections in Lang algebra also? Perhaps Dummit and Foote? Which would you say is the best for Rings?
Hello sir I have been watching you videos so that I can improve my maths but I am having some personal issues which made my foundation of maths worse so if you don't mind can we talk about it
Great to see the Math Sorcerer looking jacked and lean while sharing his math knowledge!
Ah an Omni man fan. Are you waiting for season 2 as well?
@@arnabdas7019 Yup, been waiting for 2 years lol
Like Gandalf, is the Math Sorcerer a wizard or a high-Int fighter?

Yes I love that book. His writing style is very unique and engaging, so not what you usually see in math books.

Another GREAT Video ... thank you! Hope you will return to the new bookshelf and cruise through some additional books!

Bwuhahaha a math bet, love it! That is great:)
An interview with Jay Cummings is mandatory 😉
Wow awesome idea!!! Thank you!!
I second this!
Thanks for all of your content. Helping me tough it out through Calc II in a 5 week summer semester.

I did notice that too..
Does it make sense to go through Buck's advanced calculus after spivak or are they at more or less the same level?
