Rest in peace ❤. To a great man 🥂
RIP The Quant King
Dividends are dope. Personally, I sometimes use my dividends to buy other dividend and growth stocks for diversification instead of reinvesting in the same stock. To each their own methods though. The good thing is that you’re investing in the first place and that’s what’s important. Salute for the content!
The current market might give opportunities to maximize profit within a short term, but in order to execute such strategy , you must be a skilled practitioner
the best market strategy is to work with a credible investing coach. Since a while ago, I've been in touch with a coach, mostly because I lack the depth of understanding and mental toughness to deal with the ongoing market conditions. You lack the information necessary to succeed in a competitive market, not because you're doing anything wrong, but rather because of your lack of experience.
That's impressive! I could really use the expertise of this advisors, my portfolio has been down bad. how can I contact them?
'Melissa Maureen Ward' is the licensed advisor I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
I looked up her full name online and found her page. I emailed and made an appointment to talk with her; hopefully, she gets back to me.
Such a bummer no one asked any question. Such a wasted opportunity given his vast knowledge on many fields!
I don’t think they realise how prestigious this guy is
They‘re too scared of asking dumb questions
Well, someone did ask a question in the end.
@@rydercarter7035and by that last one i gain tremendous amount of knowledge!!!
They were too dumb to know his knowledge
I'm extremely impressed with how well he knew his audience -- he kept things very down to earth and never got caught up in his accolades and yet articulated them all -- wow!
So true!
at 11:30, the physicist full name is Edward Witten and are one of the godfathers of string theory - also considered to be one of the greatest minds of this generation. pretty cool to have a guy like that reading your paper and thinking your thesis could apply to his work.
also - thanks for this. Love Jim and really impressed with what he's accomplished.
Thanks for info. Simons and Witten are the two intellectuals I've been trying to learn more about, lately, but I didn't know that they were 'linked' until reading your comment.
Good to know!
thanks for the insight!
Rest in peace Sir.
One of the RICHEST most INTELLIGENT men in the world in front of you and no one has questions?! 🤦🏻♂️

a humble exposition of an absolutely bonkers life story. impressive and touching!
Make sure you watch other interviews with Jim. He is an unpretentious and plainspoken delight. So many people put on airs and talk in fancy ways to try to seem impressive. Few were as smart or as rich as Jim. Think about that. Thanks.
He’s like many other hyper successful people. Had a passion and talent, worked hard and the money came as a result. The people focus on making money alone seem to be the ones who act as if they’re the 10x better than everyone
By few you are being very generous 😂
Absolutely wonderful. It is very common these days for a mathematician to be asked to relate his mathematics to the 'real' world. Simons story is the perfect answer to that.
I tell them list is infinite!!
@@tiagomoraes1510 I meant Chern-Simons invariants.
Quote and unquote real? You don't think there is a reality?
Absolutely amazing video!
Wonderful story in a candid manner. Felt his intelligent power. Thanks.
I was so pleased watching his speech.
Such a delight to hear your amazing career story, sir. Kudos for everything you have achieved, you are a true value producer.
This strategy has been a game-changer for me. I followed your advice and got 8 out of 9 - the best result I've had in ages. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with me
Such a great speach!
Jim is an amazing man, thanks for this.
Amazing talent, for sure. Some suspect they discovered machine learning (statistical learning) before anyone else.
But let's not also forget that he maliciously hid billions of dollars offshore in order to evade taxes, that would have otherwise gone towards the collective betterment of society.
"Confidential legal files from 2010 show lawyers and advisers for Simons worked to protect him and his children from “particularly severe” US tax bills that would be triggered if they tried to bring the funds onshore. Bermuda imposes no taxes on profits or income.
The Simons trust was revealed in the Paradise Papers, millions of leaked offshore files reviewed by the Guardian, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and others. The files give a rare glimpse inside trusts used by the super-rich to ensure confidentiality and minimal regulation."

Remarkable man. I love his down to earth demeanor.
Thank you for your brave share Jim. I too was able to identify flaws from within the context of my work, and it's a good thing we live in a Country where we are protected from our own disclosures.
His style has something of the aesthetic of math. Understated. Here he seems to be understating his achievements. On my part, to great effect.
inspring! Thanks Simon and Marilyn for supporting science research!
Would love to sit and chat with Jim. Has done such amazing things for the field of mathematics.
Amazing these young people had no questions for this amazing man. I have a million questions I would like to ask him. The talk bored them and went totally over their heads with the focus on math rather than money. What a missed opportunity.
The best part of this guy is that he likes to ask questions.
Brilliant man!
the last question was so wholesome
This man is brilliant, the knowledge that is needed to even understand what he says is insane, we’ve tried to break it down in our video, hopefully it will give you a better view of how you can learn and do exactly like Jim

I just ran into the theory mentioned, but haven’t unfolded it just yet. The minimum surfaces thing reminds us that least action is always just around the corner no matter where you are working within the hierarchy of natural phenomena and principles.
The soap bubble demonstration he mentioned is quite stunning for the uninitiated, this realization that there is an ordering preference or bias, already baked into our universe, and reappears at every turn.
Stuck in a model? Look for least action, it’s like taking an aspirin for a headache. I wonder now where it resides within this theory of his.
Jim sir we greatful to u
It's been ALL outliers for him. His professional life has been such a massive outlier in his success at generating returns while his personal life has been a tremendous negative outlier with him losing BOTh of his sons in freak accidents at very young ages, one at 34 was killed riding a bicycle and the second one died at 24 from drowning.
I didn't know that. That is really unfortunate. Must be very burdensome for him and his wife 😢.
Thanks for sharing. I'd love to learn more about the subjects he loves
@@Cyrus0wMichael Spivak wrote a 5 Volume Set on Differential Geometry which has some of the most beautiful math prose writing and LaTeX typesetting that I've ever seen, and I mean that. I literally declared a math double major when I saw it because I just must understand it.

What an Amazing guy!
Jim is a great mathematician and investor too...
Wish I had a fraction of knowledge of numbers as this man.

Wonderful person and wonderful short and very interesting story! Thank you very much dear Professor and for RUclips
Your tips help me avoid mistakes in trading. Thanks for your valuable help!
R.I.P. He is so smart and amazing!!!!!❤
Spectacular 😃
Congratulation for having a Wonderful Hedge Fund Company
Very impressive.!
I did a lot of math.
I made a lot of money.
And I gave almost all of it away.
So deep and sarcastic! 🤣🤣🤣
That wasn't sarcastic. Huge bulk of his fortune he made from trading has been dedicated to his charitable foundations. He's been giving his money away through his foundations with his wonderful wife.
@@No_BS_policy Cmon, Man.
u didnt even get it, you r a very serious one. 😂
@@AlgoNudger no. Jim was dead serious about 'giving all of it away'. He didn't mean he turned his gains to losses by giving them away back to the markets like what most inexperienced traders do. This guy and his wife have been operating a charitable institution where they've been pouring billions to advance scientific causes. He wasn't sarcastic. You mistook what he tried to convey.
@@No_BS_policy he thinks he is genius just because youtube lets him name himself "algorithm manipulator". 😂😂
The shortest and interesting story ever.
Great video, thank you! I would just like to add that a Brazilian called Hindemburg Melão Jr. has devised an automatic investment system called Saturn V (L4Σ version), which last year outperformed the Medallion Fund. The results were verified and authenticated by one of the 4 largest auditing firms in the world.
He (Hindemburg) has also improved the work of 5 Nobel Laureates in Economics. Cheers!
The fact that they didn't have any questions makes me mad. I wish I was there.
It's really a amazing vdo. ❤
I was used to do the same thing doubling the 2 when I was 8 years old. Next step is 2048, but by this time you of course know it =). The fact is I am 28 years old now I could not addapt to traditional education in my country (Spain) so I didn't go to any university... but I am still learning and publishing modestly by my way. I am still interested in numbers (even the number 2) but things become harder when you try to rise and rise powers in some function... I am very interested in some called tetration (next step to power in operator algebras). I you telling this here becouse some days ago I had a revelation... If I follow the criteria of solve towers of numbers from "top to celling" like Eulers did to solve Fermat Prime Conjecture, instead of my own criteria of solving the towers from "celling to top", my work in "exponentory" (functional operator for serial exponent) and my work in tetration properties are wrong, I had never in my life an identical reality shock... I comment it here becouse maeby some of the audience of this video can understand me in some way. Anyway, thanks to Simons to sharing his experience.
What did you mean by traditional education?
@@bma1955alimarber By traditional education I mean the nowadays education system of Spain, must to learn advanced-like Linguistics in Spanish and English, History of Spain and History of Filosophy, Physics from XVIII and XIX century and other topics like choose between Technology classes or Biology classes before you can go to University in any scientific area. It is totally absurd how outdated the middle-high education in my country is... The fact is everybody knows that but the young people think: "Well just 2 o 3 bad years and then I will study interesting things", but in my case I could not accept that, and just become self-taught.
I'm an upcoming mathematician, physicist and intellectual simon trust me one day i'll turn the world upside down with my great achievements...i'm proud of you jimmy.
You’re also an idiot …… and this is coming from a Mathematician and a scientist much older and experienced than you.

RIP legend.
LEGEND
He exerted himself the maximum and the kids sat completely lost. What a waste. He should have an older audience. What a humble wonderful person, who keeps the focus on math , not money.
Great talk! Wish the audience had asked a few good questions about the future of investment, the relationship between politics and business or even sustainable global economic development
For real
I tried to contact the foundation of Jim and Marylin Simons in 2017 because I knew they were interested in Mathematics and its relation with Asperger persons. Myself I am mathematician with AS, but I was not funded for my research in mathematics, I have done research in maths during 20 years without almost any money ! When I contacted this foundation unfortunately they didn't help me. My frustration was to not be able to contact Jim or Marylin directly. I am sure that if I had the chance to explain to them directly my work and my situation, they could have helped me. The problem of this kind of foundation is this multitude of people who are like a barrier between the people who really need help in accordance with the aim of this foundation and the real help provided by the Foundation.
Эпичный занос!!! Никогда не видел ничего такого)) надеюсь когда-нибудь я тоже смогу поднимать так.
Very nice speech my god
Movie idea: crossed paths, divergent destines: the unabomber and jim (probably not quite crossed paths at berkeley but seemingly very similar minds).
I did Further Calculus & Analytical Geometry. This Differential Geometry no I did not. however this was way back into time (1989-90)and really never applied it
If there were a Nobel for Quant Trading, Jim would be the first to win it.
Super!!!📖📖📖
Nice, short talk. However, to know more about the man, it might be just worth reading "The man who solved the market" by Greg Zuckerman.
RIP thanks for everything

He should be a caring person

Did not talk about the "win theory of investment" and how and what is the secret of win ?
The guy from Frost vs Nixon and The Trial of the Chicago 7, lol, Frank Langella, could play him...
Would like to know what his equations or algorithm solved and how he solved the stock market and was able to average over 66% over 31 years. Might be a good question.

I wonder if James Simons has considered that owning a superyacht could be better for society than charity? A superyacht employs a ton of staff to clean it, dock it, provision it, build it, as well as all of the jobs surrounding yachts. Plus working as crew on a superyacht is more fun. and when the owner is away the crew go wild.
