i don't think salt is any worse than it is for humans... but always consider the size difference as well. a typical adult is like 20 to 50 times the size of a macaw. so that means 20 to 50 times less salt. when you consider that 'a pinch' is about the recommended amount of salt for a human each meal, well... basically, adding any amount of salt to a macaw's diet is more than they need. not that you should panic if, say.. they steal a french fry, or a potato chip/crisp... just make sure it isn't a common thing. and of course, smaller birds are smaller, so it should be avoided even more. BUT! I'm not a vet, etc.. always make sure you do your own research for your specific bird's needs first.
I love these birds it is an amazing feeling when you gain the trust of these beautiful birds, I think everyone should get the chance to experience birds in some way to fully appreciate them
Claire was having so much fun moving the perch around behind you. I love that kind of humor... hahaha. I found this video so funny in general, the bird sitter so shy with the birds. You can clearly see Mickey is way more confident than Mia with people but with you she'll learn to trust
I just had a first experience with parrots sitting on me. It was awesome! I went to the (what I name) parrot place and when I've just entered the room with parrots, Green Alexandrine flew to me and she was sitting in on my arm trying to climb to my shoulder. I was there with my crush and I was telling her a lot of facts about parrots, and then one of the workers in the room asked me how did I knew so much about parrots? I told her that I wanted to have two Budgies and I've read a lot of books and guides about them to be prepared. Also, there is a room with macaws! There are 7 of them, two Blue-and-Yellow macaws ( their names are Bella and Molly) one scarlet Macaw (Tango) three (I'm not sure if I am right) Chestnut-front macaws (One is named kacper other two I don't know) and one Golden-collared macaw! This place was just so great! Parrots are flying free, you can feed them and they're just so awesome! If anyone would be interested, this place is in Wroclaw Poland! PS awesome video!

I absolutely LOVE your family and how you guys take care of your amazing birds!! Thank you for having such good content and for giving people a good example on how to care for these beautiful, flying, dinosaurs.
Alex sure is a tall glass of water! 😂 Glad I saw some Macaw biting behavior, don’t see it on video much unless the bird has major behavioral issues. Those beaks scare me too!
Alex is a great bird sitter! It’s so important to have that feeling that your birds are well taken care of. My bird sitter loves my flock. Enjoy your hols!
Haha, really marvellous 😄👍 It’s funny to see how timid Alex is in front of the massive beaks 😂 But this reminds me how we started for the first time with our birds. You’re doing great, Alex 👍
I got very good advice when I first got my large Macaw. first is never keep this size bird on your shoulder because their head over yours can inadvertently make them feel dominant over you and can lead to serious facial bites. Even in a perfect world biting can occur. The other thing is always stick train your bird so no one has to get bitten (like a pet sitter or other you might need to help care for the birds) I use the step up command for both handling and stick handling.
Simone Schultz Simone Schultz there is no such thing as bird dominance, macaws live together in big flocks with no alpha. I’m pretty sure Mia put her foot on Mommy’s face because it’s just fun
Really well you try to Get near a nesting pair without getting attacked. I’ve worked with and lived with more than one Macaw for 30 plus years and my comments are based on my experiences and feedback from Bird behavior experts. Breeders will tell You that if their not careful they will get attacked by the parent Macaw when chicks are removed from the nest before their eyes open. So I’m guessing you live where they live in the wild?
Simone Schultz Simone Schultz i never said that these birds never get aggressive or attack especially if you try to remove their chicks from the nest. Im just saying that i don’t think that letting your bird on your shoulder results in him feeling constantly dominant over you and is a proper explanation for his misbehavior. Biting/aggression can have all sorts of causes jealousy, fear and tons of other things
Thanks for the advice but we have had our birds on our shoulders since we felt comfortable with them, they aren’t breeding birds, and we have a great bond with no worry anything will happen. It’s all about trust really.
Exactly what I was thinking when I saw Quantas lol.
