  • When the ALL NEW Camry hit dealerships in 2018 it was totally redesigned to shake off the boring image of the car. Under the hood is the tried and true 2.5L inline-4 producing 203 HP. With an updated interior and futuristic styling, is the 2018 Toyota Camry all that it's cracked up to be?

      How's the acceleration on ur camry? I've been reading comments with people saying there's a noticeable delay when accelerating. I didn't notice it when I test drove one the other day, but since youve owned it for a few months, is there a noticeable delay when accelerating?

    • @QuentinQuatermass
      @QuentinQuatermass 5 лет назад +5

      @@venture7o7 My Camry SE has the 2.5 L engine and acceleration is good for a 4-cylinder. What I notice is the 8-speed transmission shits into as high a gear as it can, as quickly as it can - to give great gas mileage. If you tromp down on the accelerator it does take a second for a downshift then the engine kicks in. You can avoid that delay by driving in Sport Mode and using the paddle shifters. I normally use Auto Mode which works fine most of the time. This isn't a screaming sports car but is a pretty sporty and reliable mid-size sedan that does most things right.

    • @venture7o7
      @venture7o7 5 лет назад +5

      @@QuentinQuatermass
      I ended getting the 2019 Camry SE with upgraded options and Love this thing.
      You described the acceleration to a tee. Slight delay in auto mode, but nothing abnormal. Sport mode alleviates the delay, and you are in full control. One thing I wish I got was the front parking sensors. This thing is too beautiful to risk scraping the bottom when parking; I find myself in and out of my car when moving close to curb.
      Glad I went with this car and cant wait until I add the right tint and a few other things.

And the eco mode saves on gas, but still had powerbelieve me. Like the comfort, control, steering. I'm almost done paying my car off and not looking for another car note. But if i did decide to upgrade this would be the car i would choose. Seats are very comfortable and the interior room is awesome

    The faux air vents should have just been body colored like you stated. To me the bird like grill is different and would have looked a little better if the faux air vents were body colored. I do like the direction they were going with the seats. The concept is their as far as having cloth with some sort of leather mixture but the design looks out dated. But reliability and price is the big factor in this so I guess it is okay for what you pay.

    I'm about to retire my 14-year old 3.3L V6 Sonata (203k miles). The regular 2.5L Camry LE should be a more than adequate replacement. Perhaps, I'm in the minority. But, I like the simpler looks of the Camry LE over the SE. The V6 Camry sounds tempting. But, I think the 203 hp of the 4-bangers should be plenty enough to maintain +70 mph at the steepest highway climbs between Tucson and Las Vegas. As a highway cruiser, I like the smaller but thicker 17" tires of the LE. I think they're better suited to absorb bumpy roads and railroad tracks than lower profile tires that come with the bigger alloy wheels.

Honda lil faster tho+ you gain a lot more power with a reflash on the turbo then you do with an all motor 🚗

    My 2016 Honda Civic EX deathtrap. If your Honda has an electronic/electric parking brake it might cause you to crash.
    While driving my 2016 Honda Civic EX around 20 mph the electric parking brake engaged locking up and sliding the rear tires. The car was jerking. A light came on the dash saying 'computer error, have the parking brake serviced'. If I was traveling at a high speed and the electric parking brake locked the rear tires the car would go out of control and crash.
    The car is unsafe to drive so I had it hauled to the Honda of Cleveland Tenn service department. They worked on the car and the service department manager said nothing they did addressed or corrected the electronic/electric parking brake malfunction. The car was returned to me on 7/23/2019 .
    I ask the American Honda Motor Co., Inc for compensation,on 8/4/19 and on "08/09/19 they refused, saying the problem with the electric parking brake had been "repaired". Obviously not true. The brake problem has not been repaired and all these cars should be recalled. I'm sure they did not bother to look into the problem at all. The following is their reply:
    "08/09/2019"
    "Dear John
    Thank you for the reply.
    We have received the requested information and after further review of the diagnosis from Honda Cleveland the vehicle was repaired. We have looked into your request for compensation and we regret to inform you that American Honda Motor Co., Inc will not be in the position to provide the compensation requested.
    Kind regards,

    Looked seriously at several mainstream midsize sedans last spring. The Camry came in third place behind the Accord Touring 2.0L turbo (first place) and the Mazda6 with its 2.5L turbo engine. Have to admit, though, that if I had been giving out a trophy for most improved over the previous model, the Camry would have taken it.
    Styling is obviously subjective but the Camry looked to me like its design (exterior and interior) was derived from a spaceship in a 1930's Buck Rogers serial. "Futuristic" only in that sense. The Mazda was at the top. The Honda looked like it was designed by a committee but it was still better looking than the Toyota.
    Interior space and features. The Accord in first place, especially in the back seat accommodations. The Camry in second and the Mazda in third. It's cramped compared to either of the others. The Mazda's top trim (Signature) was impressive with the Honda in second place. Even the top trim XSE Camry cheapens out second row features. Furthermore, at the time I was shopping the Camry offered neither Apple Carplay nor Android Auto. And the only integrated nav system was part of a $2000 option package and even then it wasn't a great system. Not acceptable. The 2019 model offers Apple CarPlay but still has only limited support for Android Auto. Again, not acceptable.
    Performance. I wanted more performance that the four cylinder Camry offered so I looked seriously at the NA V6. It was as quick as the Honda with its turbo4 derived from the Civic TypeR motor. The Camry's engine is a good one but putting the power down in the FWD was a challenge. I ranked it behind the Accord and ahead of the Mazda.
    The 2018 (and now the 2019) Camry is a significantly better vehicle than in previous years. It doesn't deserve to be called an "appliance." But at least in my estimation it trailed both the top trim Accord and the Mazda6.

      @@RaitisRides Great review and fair! The new Camry does have some warts but overall is the best mid-size sedan you can buy for the price. The 2018-19 Honda Accord is neck and neck with it but I bought the 2019 Camry SE and haven't been sorry. I didn't want the oil dilution problem with the Honda 1.5 L engine and its CVT transmission. I wouldn't buy a Subaru unless you like replacing both head gaskets on the boxer engine in 80,000 miles! I plan to keep the car for years so reliability is high on my list and seven Toyotas have been good to me since the 1980s! I bought a Super White SE with the same black interior as the car you reviewed in the video. I love that bright white with all the black accents, great combo just like the silver and black in your video.

    I brought my 2018 Toyota Camry SE with 8 miles at Toyota of north Miami back in August 2017 and unfortunately on 05/23/2019 I find out that I need a new transmission for my car .Let me Start by saying that I did my regular maintenance Every Five Thousand mile interval RECOMMEND by Toyota guidelines making sure it will keep running like a Toyota at Toyota of Hollywood FL and The vehicle haven`t been into any car accident. I’m extremely Strict on maintenance on my vehicle knowing that I drive constantly through harsh weathers. On 05/21/2019 I was heading to Walmart suddenly; the car suddenly start rev on its own while the car is on D drive (as if the car were in neutral) I immediately but gently apply the brakes and pull over on the side of the road turn of the car and restart it. I call Toyota of Hollywood and inform my service adviser the issue and suggest bringing it to the dealership safety. Once I arrive their I meet up with Brian singterry service manager and inform him the issue. He took the vehicle to the technician to get it diagnose. After 45 mins the car was ready for pick up and he inform me that they don`t see any issue. I left the dealership 10 miles later the car starts to act up again, but this time warning light came on from pre-collision system malfunction land departure malfunction etc. I went back to dealership and show my service manager brain. Brain inform me that they will investigate it first think in the morning because it was late in the day. It took the technician 3 days for them to figure out the issue and their conclusion was that it’s a mechanical failure and need a replacement. unfortunately, the powertrain covers 3 years/ 60,000 miles and the time of the issue Occur on 05/23/2019 odometer 68,841 therefore I wasn’t cover under warranty. For a new transmission is $4,597.92 LABOR: $750.38 TAX: $376.14 and Misc.: $25.00 totaling up to $5,749.44 I contact Toyota USA 1-800-331-4331 number and speak with a senior advisor and inform him my situation. After five business days he contact me stating that he had finish his investigation unfortunately due to the car having a lot of mileage in a short time and they are not legally obligated since the car is out of warranty however since were loyal customer they were able to provide help with cost of replacing the transmissions the amount of $2,500 reducing the balanced of $3,249.44. as of today, 6/20/19 my vehicle is repair but unable to take it out because I’m unable to paid $3,249.44 It`s extreme hard to come out Three thousand dollars out of pocket while paying car payments, insurance, food, phone bill, and transportation to go to school and work. My advice to others if your going to buy any vehicle especially totally redesigned vehicle make sure you buy extended warranty and don`t end up in my situation. God forbid if my car gets repossess my next vehicle wouldn`t be a Toyota, probably a Honda Nissan or especially kia with their 200,000 limited warranty at least I know for a fact if my transmission were to face the same issue (mechanical failure) the warranty department is LEGGALY OBLIGATED replacing it FREE OF CHARGE. Now that reliable

      @bobrobertson3558 4 года назад

      Sorry to hear about your situation there, buddy. I had a similar situation with my 2013 Altima. But let me tell you (and everyone else) something: if you're gonna buy that retarded POS "extended warranty" contract at the dealership when you buy your car, you're just handing over more money to those dealership motherfuckers, and they'll thank you for it. But guess what, when you get into a similar situation later (as you have described), they ain't gonna cover you for jack-shit, and you'll just wind up with the exact same result as if you had never bought it. So, it's better if you just save your money (as you have). So, yeah, you did right by not buying that shit coverage at the beginning.

    Raiti, please do a little bit of research before you start giving misinformation about cars you're reviewing. You're talking about the Camry SE in this video, and then you tell people that the driver seat is power but the front passengers have to manually adjust the seat. Wrong! The driver seat has an 8 way power adjustment, including a power lumbar adjustment, while the front passenger seat has a 6 way power adjustment.
    I personally like the center stack design very much, as it borrows from (but is not identical to) the design of the third gen Lexus RX. I'd also rather have an NA engine like in this Camry rather than the turbo four cylinder engines that Honda is putting into every Accord now. As Scotty Kilmer would say, turbo engines wear out faster than naturally aspirated engines, and when the turbos break (which they will), they are expensive to replace.
