- Nuhu Ribadu "When you fight corruption, it fights back" at TEDxBerlinSalon "Leading in a complex World" (www.tedxberlin.de)
Nuhu Ribadu is founding chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the organization that changed the narrative of the fight against corruption and financial crimes in Nigeria.
The results of his work at the EFCC, most notable amongst which are the delisting of Nigeria from the FATF’s List of Non-Cooperative Countries & Territories, admission into the prestigious Egmont Group and the withdrawal of the US Treasury advisory on Nigeria by the FINCEN, were critical to the perception of Nigeria, globally. He had also attracted donor supports from European Union (EU), UNODC, UNDP, World Bank, and a host of others running into millions of US dollars, and also built an effective collaborative effort with the FBI, SOCA [UK], Metropolitan Police, Dutch Police, German Police, South African Police and a host of other law enforcement agencies in the world.

persons like these are needed in africa more than ever now
A very confident and brave person to fight corruption in his own country. We never engage foreigners to clean our own back yard.
A true Nigerian patriot!
Infobytes: In 2006, the then EFCC chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, listed 5 governors as the most corrupt, but they have since maintained influential positions: Bola Tinubu is President, Orji Kalu is a Senator, Ahmed Sani Yerima is a Senator, George Akume is a Senator and SGF, and Chimaroke Nnamani is a Senator. Ribadu, who failed to prosecute them, is now the National Security Adviser under Tinubu’s administration.
Ribadu in the past, accused Tinubu of stealing 75% of Lagos state's resources during his tenure as governor. However, now Ribadu serves as National Security Adviser under Tinubu's administration, implying a shift from an anti-corruption stance to a compromised position.
Ribadu was previously a pioneer chairperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and gained a reputation as a fearless anti-corruption crusader. However, his credibility was questioned when he delved into partisan politics and bonded with members of the elite he had previously criticized or prosecuted. He has shifted from his anti- corruption stance to a compromised position. His appointment as security adviser has sparked debate, with some seeing it as an attempt to legitimize an unpopular administration led by Tinubu. Ribadu faces significant challenges in addressing Nigeria's security issues, including armed non-state actors and multiple scandals within security agencies. Only time will tell if Ribadu can excel in his new role.
I'd like to go a little bit further to say that, both Ribadu and Sanusi should be governors of their respective states and after they have transformed and enriched the economies of their respective states, they should be voted in as President and vice President of Nigeria. It's such 'muslim-muslim' tickets that we want to see in Nigeria. These two men love their country and *all* its people.
well said
Nuhu Ribadu... Thanks for all you did.
"If you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes back at you." - Friedrich Neitzsche.
Ihe nkea o rice.
I'm from this paradoxical continent too. Great talk.
The corruption fighting agency has not been the same since Ribadu left EFCC. Now, the agency is a caricature. Once you cross-over to the ruling political party, the agency "throw" the file away.
Brilliant talk...
We have very few such courageous public officers. Bravo
Keep going people ! Corruption is the next enemy to eliminate . Without corruption there will be no Islamic State. Boko Haram, underdeveloped regions , famine etc.
This is system at work!
This is what we need now.
I love you! God bless you sir
Africa not needs money any mor , but needs Fifty-five one like this brave guy to development of africa
Am so sorry
And will do the best.
I will do
really great talk Mallam
This was really inspiring. Thanks a lot for sharing!
Wow... very impressive. Remarkable.
May God continues to bless Mallam Nuhu Ribadu
The crowd is clapping with the arrest of Nigerians but not Haliburton
Very true
he is great speech ♡♥♥
Yes, but he is also a natural comedian.
The stolen money is there to fight back but the truth will always prevail.
an amazing man
Informative talk
Inspirational!
God bless this man
we salute your work
This is one of the few people who have served in government that I have respect for
You are an awesome example
Great
Exactly the point...help us block the path through which looted money are siphoned into the Developed Countries...then we will never need any development AID ever...
God bless you sir
2021 the story remains same, God help Nigeria
Men like this are real leaders
Hmmm - there's a salient statement made by Ribadu in 12:00. The use of that particular picture which featured UMYA, the same man whose government sent him away from EFCC says a lot.
This is embarrassing and amazing at the same time.
Tell them brother!!!
60 billion dollars must be a very grievous understatement
I don't know if this man is still the man standing here. Although he tried when he was the chairman of EFCC, I believed when he was removed unjustly from being the chairman, he became discouraged and changed from who he was. Nevertheless I still respect him. he has tried
I think your attention should be most needed now in present administration.
He is doing it now againg fighting binance in Nigeria as National security advisor.
They should make a movie of his life
Is Tip Off really anonymous?
Hero
Can we have a documentary or TV series about this....
Errrr what? You mean you want to watch a real documentary, on a highly specialist area of expertise and skill. Perhaps a behavioural scientist pro trainer, who knows how to think like the criminal network he is stalking! With a direct access to Interpol or MI5? With a limitless budget. And an enormous team of global elite forensic truth, seekers who cannot be bought off, scared off, bribed off, corrupted off? Or even blasted off! Why, would you ever want to watch that, when you could get 24/7 Daily Corona Virus Updates?
@@ingridliselarssen4132 the answer to your question is very simple, it is because I have a different worldview compared to you from ambitions to the sense of reality
someone call Netflix
Wow
What is amazing is that religions use the same corrupt tactics and even the brightest are totally blind to their tactics!
In Corrupt countries the best resume does not get you the job, the best product does not get you the contract - wait buddy, you have to go thru us - either you pay or must have the right connections to get what you want
Religions say the same thing - you could be the greatest person in the world - a Gandhiji, a Buddha but wait buddy, you have to go thru us - only our God can get you Heaven, so first you must convert
Works do not matter - all you have done in your life does not matter
The only thing that matters is religion
Just like the Corrupt people rig the system, religions also use the lure of Heaven to push conversions
Corrupt religions dominate the world!
They dominate because the moral, ethical, educated seem totally brainwashed by religion
Yes all religions are scams.
...couple of people had the courage, recently, to tell us few things about some of the corrupt people...Assange is one and Snowden is another...one is locked up, another is 'enjoying' Russian hospitality...
And that same Yar'dua is an angel to some people. I don't trust our politicians
This video was uploaded 7 years. And today Nuhu Ribadu is been appointed as the National security adviser (NSA) to the president of Nigeria.
The same James Ibori visits Tinubu who is Nuhu Ribadu's boss.
You got that right.
nuhu ribadu your a good man born in wrong place I would vote for you to be the president of Nigeria.
5:57 Ibrahim Magu was in the picture
James Ibori must not watch this video now. This video just validated Segun Adeniyi's account
C/ or weep it all zip. But DR appt for the next y goop oh
When you work in an organisation that involves a lot of teams, I'd prefer you use "we" instead of "I". The EFCC staff who worked on the case will be happy if they heard "we" and have the feeling of inclusiveness in the story.
It's one of the problems of institution building in Nigeria and most parts of Africa. Institutions tend to revolve around personality heading it. Though it should be pointed out that the agency succeeded mainly because he was the head. After he was removed, the agency "died" with limited successes.
That is the only thing you heard in all the speech. I heard WE a lot of times too but you heard only I. You will also blame the President but today you want inclusiveness. Take the message home and leave case. We all knew he didn't do it alone.
Listen again and listen for the word WE. open your mind and stop listening for faults.
Fighting corruption is a war..tough job.
Make it happen in the Philippines.
Ich bin auch ein Berliner!
Mr. Ribadu, please run for a governorship or presidential position in Nigeria. Your country needs you now more than ever!!!
The sad thing is, when James Ibori was released and deported back to Nigeria, he was given a heroes welcome in Delta State. People in his community said, "yes, we know he is a thief but, he's *our* thief".
That is so very sad!
😢
My take;
-Corrupt public officials r proud to be corrupt
-in a corrupt system , integrity is considered the criminal mindset
- corruption is the first power, then the Legislative, the Executive and last but not least the judicial power...
Are there at least subtitles? C'mon TED...
You see any subtitles?
Ted usually has subtitles in their videos
And to think i trusted Yar'adua
Make a case against your boss and prosecute
you did not mention the Fulani jajaweed who also embezzled govt fund.
We who move to other countries are easily lured into corruption, you try not work with natives to avoid it.
It's a terrible thing for such a beautiful accent you have to say
Corruption is part of the nigerian culture...so sad
When can we say of the same Nuhu Ribadu dinning and wining with the same criminals he told the world about?
Time Reveals All Things
No clapping for Harlibuton, ENI, etc. 😂😂😂
I think you are clean and did your job good but u don't compare a 419 who steal outside the country to the inspector general of police etc. that stole Nigerian public fund
Dread Ras EFCC Stands for Economic, Financial crimes commission. Any offense committed WITHIN the country relating to financial crimes of ANY sort will be prosecuted by the EFCC.
Theft is Theft they're both corrupt.
He fought corruption but now protects the corrupt as National Security Adviser to Bola Tinubu, a career criminal.
Such a shame.
Thief
Liar
