When Scottie Smalls (Thomas Guiry) moves to a new neighborhood, he manages to make friends with a group of kids who play baseball at the sandlot. Together they go on a series of funny and touching adventures. The boys run into trouble when Smalls borrows a ball from his stepdad that gets hit over a fence.

As someone who used to be an introvert, this movie used to make me wish I wasn’t so shy because theee type of friend groups seemed so fun to me as a child 😂😭
Fun Fact: This movie debuted 45 years after Babe Ruth himself passed away.
I hope this movie is never forgotten even in the year 2100.
A little fact is Wendy Peffercorns actress (Marley Shelton) also plays sheriff Judy Hicks from both Scre4m and Scream 2022. Another fact is at the end with Benny as an adult, the for him as an adult is actually the older brother of the actor who played Benny as a kid
I also know her from warriors of virtue.

I love how the giant beast turns out to be a normal Mastiff, and is clearly barely even jogging when he chases Benny.
Those were the days that my friends and I love to play baseball. Sooner or later, we are going for the first time to visit baseball stadium at Seattle ⚾️🏟

I remember first saw some of this in 3rd grade in a baseball field! I didn't see the whole thing because I wanted to go to sleep. They let me and my cub scout troop camp in a baseball field and we watched the Sandlot on the jumbotron.
I first saw the whole thing in 8th grade. We were starting a friends unit in SFA and we all voted The Sandlot! This film is such a great one! Best baseball movie ever!
This movie is so underrated! The scene with Squints kissing Wendy is my favorite part!

This released the same year as Demolition Man, Cliffhanger, Jurassic Park and Last Action Hero. The actor playing older Scotty at the end was also in Full Metal Jacket and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The actress playing Scotty's mom is also in Animal House and Raiders of the Lost Ark. The actor playing Scotty's stepdad is also in Demolition Man and the Ice Age films
Hey, Tim! I'm so glad you got to enjoy this 90's classic for the first time. If you liked the characters and the humor, The Goonies and Second Hand Lions are great follow-ups for young boys going on misadventures and coming of age. Coincidentally, they also feature misunderstood older men who turn out to be cool and badass. For a series, I'm sure both you and Clariss will love Ed, Edd, and Eddy, an animated comedy about three boys modeled after the three stooges who also get into wacky hijinks. The creator is also from Canada, and he pokes a lot of fun at it throughout the show, like the boys thinking a turkey baster is a canadian squirt gun. Keep the laughs going!

Thank you Tim for reacting to another favorite movie of mine from my childhood and we still have it on VHS. Besides golf, I am also not much of a sports person, but the premise and the life lessons behind The Sandlot is so wholesome and applies to many different walks of life. We need more stories like this now a days more than ever. This was also my first intro to James Earl Jones before I even knew he was the voice of Darth Vader.

I'd like to recommend a couple other movies in this genre. THE PERFECT GAME (2009) is about the first non-US team to win the Little League World Series, and SAFE AT HOME! (1962) is about a Little Leaguer who gets in trouble when he brags to his teammates that his dad knows two famous Major League baseball players.
This is my 6th fav movie of all time. For context i own just over 2000 movies. Seen probably about 3000.

Such a classic movie
The first few times you ever do/use chewing tabacco, you only keep it in for 5-10 minutes max. Sometimes not even that long. You will feel ill as your body is not used to it. After the first few times, it will never happen again. I had even quit once for 18 months then started right back up again when my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and never got that gross ill feeling buzz i got when i was in 10th grade and first started.just a lil pro tip for anyone reading.

I have a lot of affection for this movie, but I keep wondering about one little plot detail. What happened to the baseball that Smalls and his stepdad were practicing with (the one that hit him in the eye)? Why didn't he go home and get that baseball, instead of stealing his stepdad's valuable collector's item?
