Welcome to Make My Space Work - a series where Shopify, in partnership with home decor expert Alexandra Gater, gift entrepreneurs with makeovers to make their spaces more functional and beautiful.
In this episode Alexandra is going to be helping David, a surgical resident, huge techno music fan, and an entrepreneur. He’s such a fan of techno music that he founded an apparel business called Techno Apparel!
Now for David, space isn’t an issue. The biggest problem David has is that he needs to use his space to work in, chill in, and entertain in, but right now he’s struggling to do any of this. His current set up really doesn’t flow: the printer is on the other side of the room to his desk, his tv distracts him from his work, and the furniture is just placed against the wall leaving all this awkward space in between.
Can Alexandra reconfigure David’s space to help him to focus on work efficiently, relax when he wants to, and have the room flow better? You got to watch to find out!

The first thing I noticed was the space looked brighter afterward. It looks wonderful! Such a change from how it was before!
Why r there so less views for a Alexander Gater video?? This makeover was very challenging.. loved the transformation..
I know that I love her and I love her work, but I don’t feel inclined to watch her videos right away, probably because the thumbnail or whatever for it isn’t very appealing/ intriguing.
This is her second channel. Her main one has 400K. She is my absolute favorite RUclips. Smart funny talented.

STILL SO OBSESSED WITH THIS MAKEOVER! The layout is absolutely perfect and couldn’t be more functional. Apollo and Athena love to perch themselves on the shelves to survey the room and snuggle up on the new couch and rug... safe to say they also love it 😻

It is, love that great bookcase. Great size too. Also strong, liked the pipe work. He's bound to get more reference books and this leaves loads of space to expand a collection while framing it.
Love this transformation and no shade on the off center couch, it makes perfect sense. You got him out of “bachelor pad black” into a space that is so stylish, awesome job!

I love that couch, the feature wall colour, the shelving unit and that you kept their coffee table, tv unit n technology. Everyone needs a Xico, man of many talents!! This space feels much more neutral it’s still manly but it has personality now, his partner would feel so much more comfortable (I would) its not acold, black and lifeless Batchelor pad any more. Loving the couch configuration.

I totally get why the couch wasn’t centered, however I would’ve taken it a bit farther backwards that way it wouldn’t be so close to that big tv and he would still have room to walk between the living and kitchen area. Love the transformation though!

Or even just... shift the tv over to the left to be more centered to the couch?

One of the best makeovers EVER!
Great job! I especially liked the color of the sofa picking up on the cabinetry and though I'd have chosen differently, the globe lights echoing each other. That makes the whole room more intentional. It's now a very serene and spacious adult space. I also like that there is room for the couple to bring in their own touches.
My one suggestion is that the new open bookshelf could use fewer "itty bitty" accessories & books with one or two substantial and weighty items. Something sculptural perhaps. Or larger plants with more industrial style containers. But that's personal and minor.

People keep saying the TV should be centred to the couch and I completely disagree! That TV is MASSIVE and would only look right centred on the wall. PLUS once it's mounted.. it ain't moving. It's not something you can just move around when you get the urge to rearrange your furniture. This way they are not limited to this layout if things change in the future. Alexandra you nailed it! Awesome job!

This my first time making a comment . I really loved this transformation . They all are so nice and creative but this one really impressed me . This could be in a magazine. I loved every bit of your choices . I even tried to purchase some items but they were out of my budget . I always find something I want to purchase or make with every video. And luv the hair and lipstick and the outfit .

That was such a dramatic change. The color of the walls really made the space brighter. The space flows better and is so organized. I love that it now tells one cohesive story vs what I saw at first. You really outdid yourself. Top favorite makeovers of yours for sure.

This was absolute perfection. Not only because of the amazing way in which the space was split up for better functionality but all of the pieces just fit seamlessly and effortlessly into the overall vibe and feel of the space. That light fixture change though... *chef's kiss* - amazing, amazing job!

I would have moved the TV over a bit so it was cantered with the couch and put a giant monstera beside it... But I just literally look for any excuse to put a monstera somewhere. Beautiful job, I loved this makeover and that freaking couch!!

Printer paper standing up on its end is a huge no no ....it must lay flat to feed well in a printer ....please!
I flinched at that, but it's easily moved to a drawer. There might be a reason for the printer corner, maybe the cats chase the sheets?
@@FurnitureFan It would be easy to buy or create a wood paper stand that a ream could be tucked into on top of the file cabinet and under the printer. When I had my office desk custom built (very tiny room and different pieces of furniture would have added to a sense of clutter), I had two open shelves built underneath. One side has a paper tray.
I think you are wonderful and I watch all your videos because you are so creative but make it fun. I am an artist in Devon uk and I work as a home-carer and also care for my daughter who has an illness. She moved out in April right in the middle of covid and I am trying to get inspiration to turn her old bedroom into an art and craft room. My creative head needs to have somewhere to go after long days. I keep watching for more inspiration. You are amazing Alexander, you are so sweet.

I like the industrial look. It's funny how you just reorganized the furniture and it looks like a totally different room.
Lovely makeover! The best thing about it is that it could have totally been made on a budget, i.e. by removing one sofa (why do people have more than one sofa when they don't live in enormous houses? I see it even in rental spaces, always baffles me), rearranging the existing furniture and switching the ceiling light into something brighter. Which doesn't mean that the new furniture didn't elevate the transformation even more, I love that new desk and the shelving. Good job, team AG!

Really loved this make over! And definitely the idea that there is space to grow instead of having it fully done, because it did feel a bit unfinished but I already imagined what more can be added to the space. You laid a great baseline that can help. Awesome!
