Hi everyone! There seems to be a lot of comments below about budget! I just want to let everyone know that the homeowner doesn't actually pay for anything in the makeover. The makeover is gifted to them, which is super cool!! I have a set budget for each episode, which means that sometimes I have a lot of money for a small space. In this makeover's case, we were only focusing on the dining room nook. To focus on his living room PLUS the "office" was going cost upwards of $2k (trust me, I wanted to tackle that area, too but couches are expensive). Because we only focused on this small space, I had some money to work with so I invested in really good quality pieces. I didn't want the wallpaper to peel over time so I bought him a really good quality one! I don't normally defend my choices this much, as everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I did want to clear up the fact that the homeowner doesn't pay for anything and that the makeover is a gift. Though we had a high budget for this makeover, you can absolutely implement these ideas for WAY less. I’d love to see how you take this inspo and make it your own! A couple ideas: you can recreate the same pattern of this wallpaper with paint, or make your own macrame hanging planters! Can’t wait to see what you come up with! -Alexandra
That's really awesome that the owner doesn't pay for the makeover! You do high quality stuff, and I think it's cool if you have the budget 🤷🏼♀️ if you did diy everything it would still cost your time, so either way makeovers are expensive in my eyes because time is also money. Great job Alexandra, keep up the awesome content 💕💕💕
Thanks for sharing! I have always wondered how it works for your makeovers. So inspiring.. Also, it’s very understandable as to why you chose to invest a little more with the wallpaper & rug. It’s for a homeowner! At least it makes sense to me! 🤷🏽♀️ As always I loved your designs & cant wait until the next video! ✨ until next time.
I didn't know that the homeowners don't pay. That is SO AWESOME!!! I always love your makeovers but I was wondering about the living room area so thinks for explaining! You're right the mural could be painted but I'd think I'd never get it to look right.
Dear Alexandra! You are the best! Please don't care about those comments. I even won't gonna bother to scroll down. Thank you for inspiring me in home decor for years. I think the mural is awesome!👍 Be well and stay healthy.💜🌍👑🌸 Much love, E.
I love the "office" area" and I get the minimalist vibe but I would have spent some of the budget on curtains. Something in a gorgeous contrast color to pop against the mural would have been amazing. In the before shots, you can see that the curtains are shabby and poorly fitting. When they are closed, it will totally take away from the niceness of the redo. Oh, and I love plants.
Hi Alexandra. I have really enjoyed watching your workspace makeovers! I especially love the products you find to do the job...beautifully. Do you have any clients who work from their dining room table? Comparatively, I am the neat half of my couple. I gave up my wonderful office (third bedroom) to my husband because his ugly mess was over-running the dining room table, and it took an Act of Congress to get him to clean it up for a dinner party. So now I use the inside corner of our dining room (situated across.from a galley kitchen in an open-plan living-dining room) as my office and tuck all the stuff on the table away if we have a dinner party. I'd love to see your client who has my situation and how you'd handle it. During this time of isolation, I am becoming addicted to your makeovers. Thanks for all the programming!
I have seen almost all your videos....and I like to read the comments....and I see everyone comment the same few things on your videos...but I feel you never consider them...I get that you should do things you like, but when it's a repeated request you should atleast consider it.....main one being how you send the budget...I never comment on any videos but this one did disappoint me, just because you have a budget you dont need to send it all, and get unnecessary expensive things, like the mural could be DIYed or got a cheaper one and got a couch instead, you just swapped things around and add some really expensive stuff as part of the aesthetics and forget spending the budget on more practical stuff or things that could last longer and is worth the investment, having a budget means you can do as much as possible with and if it's not in the plan then saving a bit more money Is more worth it than just getting something extremely expensive because you have the money to spend....also I get that you love the overhead lamp....but trying to put it in every single place you feel like doesnt work, you can experiment more, it's getting really boring plus it doesnt go with this space, a more industrial one could have looked better, I see that you are doing places out of your asthetic more and I love that, but be bold in experimenting with what you use rather than playing it safe all the time, I dont mean this in a negative way because I do like watching your videos and have nearly watched all of them...
Camelia I agree with you and you’ve said all I wanted to say. She even opened the video with saying she’s a decor expert but I didn’t feel it in this video. I was left with many questions and like things weren’t fully done. She could’ve even brought a different desk. Wood tones but still keeping it minimal. Thrifted with good taste or second hand from apps. Probably out of her comfort zone. And I do hope she is reading all the comments and suggestions because we are practically giving her constructive criticism for free while she’s making the money. I notice she goes for high end or expensive in practically every video. Glad you shared your opinion and hope she takes it well.
Literally unsubbed from her original channel and I'm not subbed to this one because of this. She never seems to get the comments. I come back once in a while to see if it's changed, it's clearly not. Just might stop coming back🤷
I love the makeover! It definitely works for a minimalist. His work space looks alive now. He asked how to take care of the plants ... that's a great sign!
It totally could have! And I encourage everyone to try it. I actually have an episode coming soon where I do this look with paint. Because I had the budget to buy a really nice wallpaper, I wanted to get something epic and I'm really happy with how it looks! Thanks for the comment!
@@AlexandraGater but you could of given him soo much more for the budget and I just feel so disappointed since I usually like ur videos but this room could of bin soo much more than it is ...even he looks Disappointed in the video 😭😭😭
This Easter, painting my dining room a mid grey, a new steel and timber bookcase, a recycled drawing (architect) desk for my computer, and a timber dining table. An update can be transformative with paint and a few good pieces of furniture. I started with a mood board and that has made such a difference to my space planning.
I don't think he was disappointed. He seemed the quiet type right from the beginning. Minimalism isn't my thing, but for those that like "less", this worked well. Remember we don't know what he asked for, and the client's wishes are what comes first in any makeover, even if it is a gift. I thought it was a very nice change.. subtle but more sophisticated.
Contrary to a lot of opinions, I totally enjoyed your work on this video. Minimalist people seem to love crisp, clean, and simple (IMO), and that’s exactly what you delivered. Minimal quality products to bring style to a room that didn’t have any. Good job 👍
Perfect ZEN space… If there wasn’t a budget, what else would you have added? Wall Art? Images of Home? Cushions or chairs? Blankets? Or, since he was a minimalist, would you have left it as is? I have a friend who is a minimalist in Japan and I am always shocked at how little is in the space, and yet how massive and stylish his space is. Wow! It is really gorgeous. I loved his response, but that is one mini gift you might consider in the future - for anyone receiving plants - a mini photo book with healthcare information. You could place a photo on the left, then screenshots from the “picture this” app about how to take care of the plant. You could begin the photo book with you, the client and a tiny plant in the front and you, the client and a LARGE plant in the back. Just make it a fun - “plant warming” gift - instead of a “house warming” gift. Lololo Glad to see everything work out so well.
Genuine question - is there a reason you don’t source from thrift shops/ Craig’s list/ Facebook marketplace, etc when doing your makeovers? I know it would be a little more time consuming finding things this way, but it would definitely be more cost effective and it would stretch your dollar so much further. Just a thought 😊❤️🌻
I guess I missed the point. I thought this was perfect for him. He is a minimalist. Mood is everything. The mural and good rug and plant were exactly what he needed. And, when you find the perfect hanging lamp, use it. It is not as if everyone lives together and has the same lamp. Everyone in my Virginia town had a couch and two wing chairs, everyone. It worked there. (I still have them here in Oregon. 😂) I love that lamp. It works in many places with many styles. Anyway. I thought you did a great job with this client. I wouldn’t change a thing. ❤️
I like the makeover! Transforming the space from showing no personality at all to being a friendly, inviting nook using only a few items was impressive. A good quality mural wallpaper like that just is a little pricey, and you can’t achieve the same clean look with paint. He definitely liked the result, he just seems a little shy :-)
This is easily one of my top favorite makeover of yours! I can tell that rug has no grip and is therefore going to become a problem however, especially with his chair rolling around it and up against it. You could've easily DIY'd a base for it with a non-slip rug pad which can be found on Amazon, Walmart, Ebay etc.
I would love to know what his input was on the design. I would be interested to know if he didn't want new furniture items as the ones he has are fairly new and/or he likes the function of them. Did he not want shorter or new curtains, perhaps they came with the space and can't be removed (yes they could be stored, but that takes up space) or they could be thermal and quite costly. I love the space and playing "Where's Waldo" with the rattan hanging light (which I love, but no Ikea near me and I don't buy what I can't touch). As for the plants, I hope he has better luck than I do keeping them thriving - I kill cactus lol.
I do think you should opt for fake plants in a space, because it is a commitment to take care of something, and not everyone is up to that. But I love this space so much. So much brighter than before
you should do a video about the different brands of washable rugs out there and compare them, and maybe pick some of your favorite designs to showcase. You can always use the rugs in makeovers later.
This video inspired me to make some changes to my house (during quarantine) by moving furniture from one room to another, etc. just like you did in this dining/office space. I had a lot of fun today doing these changes and it cost me nothing. But it was all from your video that I realized that I could do it too.
Ok saw that light painted black and think I would love that better in the space. It looked more modern but light. Made me love it! Only my opinion. Again I love your videos!!
Soooooo soooo lovely, totally love that you used the existing furniture & love the mural!!!! Have a lovely Easter weekend, thank you for the amazing videos I really appreciate them!!
My thought when you brought in the plant was... Oh my... Has he already taken care of plants? I'm sure he will ask for guidance. 😝 Great minimal decor! ❤️
To everyone saying that it was ridiculous to spend $900 on "just a mural and a rug," has obviously never researched how much each of those things actually cost for a great quality one. This was not just a "mural and a rug" makeover. I absolutely loved the transformation. He wanted a clean, minimal workspace- he got it. Also, it's not anyone's fault that the rattan light just works everywhere!
I love the wallpaper! Personally, the rug and wallpaper and plants are really my style and I would've loved a makeover of my office like that. It still feels a bit weird though that not *that* much changed, like we're used to. or maybe it feels off because he wanted "cosy" and that's not the word I'd use when describing this space. idk. maybe a bookshelf would've been cool, a stylish standing lamp... a pice of decoration on the table... idk. it just feels like "not enough" :(
I’m in the minority here and am really digging the look. I think the plants help tie in the rattan light fixture and I am not a plant person. I would enjoy working in this space.
I don’t like my plants in my home space except for the occasional orchid. I do enjoy flowers and plants elsewhere, outdoors but don’t like it in my homes. Love your vids by the way! Perfect backdrop for me as I work from home in a condo.
At first I was like this makeover is not good lol especially that price of the mural! Then I thought about it for a minute that he wanted something minimal and that's exactly what he got but at least now there is some color and warmth to the space. :)
I winced when she said that the wallpaper is $300+. Looking at the color of the furniture pieces that he has before, it is a big giveaway that he's not a big fan of color. I would've loved to see a shelf with books, a lamp, new curtains, and a better light fixture. Just my opinion. 😅
PLEASE watch some more videos/google pictures on minimalism rooms for inspo.. I would love to see you incorporate the industrial look into minimalist rooms, but for some reason you never do... would really love to see that though :) thanks :)
I liked the big items. That mural could have been painted but if you were THAT artist. It looks easy but is not. Unless that is exactly what you do. I do not think he was disappointed. He is a minimalist even at gushing words. Hope he did like it. Welcome to Canada, young man. From Penn's Woods(Pa.) In the States below you.
You can really tell he's not North American! He had the same reaction I had when I had my kitchen remodelled, and the construction guys did everything the way I had envisioned. It looked great, but all I could do was look at it and soak in how different it looked and felt. No OMG, no great show of emotion, just soaking it in... and thinking about the practicality of keeping those beautiful plants alive. I can just see him think "it looks great, but won't I kill all these wonderful plants?"
It's great that the make over is gifted, and I love the mural. I get what you were trying to go for. I also get that it's an office make over, so you left the rest of the space untouched. However, defending this by saying it would have been too expensive seems a little strange. You made the choice to go for an expensive mural. For that money you really really could have bought some decent stuff and decorated it. At least you could've added some touches to the rest of the space to tie it into the office space. But what's more important in my opinion: the client asked for it to be cozy, and it's really not giving off cozy vibes. I feel like, because of the furniture he already had, because he's a minimalist, and because he's a guy, you immediately went for a "masculine" and more cold approach, even though that was not what he requested. Last but not least about the criticism: I don't really see nasty comments, mostly just people giving constructive feedback. That's an important difference!
A credenza or Buffet, A painted feature wall versus the mural . and a piece of art or wall hanging would have really given this place a bang! Do you really want to put the Alexandra signature stamp on this ?!
The wallpaper was really pretty and i understand wanting to pay for quality so you’re sure it’ll last but that’s super expensive wallpaper when a cheaper option would’ve aged just fine... I also would’ve appreciated maybe some open shelving on the wallpaper wall to add a little bit more to the space. When it was all said and done it seemed like it was still really empty. I understand he likes a minimal vibe but it still looked unfinished at the end. This one falls pretty flat for me
For some unfathomable reason, I've noticed Alexandra's viewers to be quite harsh in their feedback. When you don't like a particular makeover, I guess you're welcome to give some feedback but it doesn't have to be nasty Also, can the commenters who attacked her about wasting the struggling entrepreneurs money at least read the video description. She does this as a gift to struggling entrepreneurs in partnership with a sponsor. You just had to read the description. Come on. May not be my style but I think you put honest effort into planning for his style and since this seems like a much older project, k think we all know the phase for the Ikea pendant light is over! 😀 You've been choosing great and varied fixtures more recently! Always fun to watch your projects! 🙌
i agree but most comments i see are about the decor and the waste in money to promote expensive things they know people wont buy after watching (not the guy's money). I am sure even it is sponsored, Alexandra chooses the items, not put what she is given together like a puzzle?
Hey Alexandra! 👋😊 he was so reserved. But I do think he liked the space a lot. Many of the comments say, you should have added more things. But you have listened to your customer's needs and wishes. You have done a great job. 😊👍
I really like how you made it look but I agree with most comments saying this budget could’ve accomplished more. I would have changed the dark and basic interior pieces for something better for this budget. Or painted them white etc/ given him 2 more chairs. I do really love your videos so it’s hard to leave a comment that’s a bit negative ❤️
Loved the mural and all the change to his space. I have NO plants in my house because of my pets and they all die on me 😔. Don't hate plants but just don't like them in my space because of that. Thinking about fake ones instead
I know you put the mural behind the desk so people he's talking to on his computer will see something a little restful. What about the wall he faces as he works? You painted that, I hope. You could have hung photos of his family and friends on that wall. You spent a lot of money for very little effect.
All of my grandparents have green thumbs but I seem to always kill plants. I can never get it right. I have no interest in gardening for sure. However, I do think plants are beautiful and add a lot to space. Perhaps you could give us all tips on picking the right plants for our space and how to take care of them ;)
Girl...you need to retire the ikea light! I started watching you with the BUY or DIY series, that was really fun, but you need to stop designing the same space over and over again . Every design looks like your apartment. btw, what happened to Andrew, did he get the boot?
I don't like plastic plants which is common in interior designing... as an interior designer and a minimalist myself it really bothers me when my boss tell me to add fake plants. every time!
I think people don’t understand what minimalism is. I also don’t think they get what Natnael wanted from this space, which was a functioning, minimalistic space to run his business that had some coziness added. I think Alexandra achieved the goal. It’s also a great starting place if he wants to add other elements later.
I liked what you did. He did not want more stuff, the wallpaper is perfect background for his video calls, and the light brings warmth to the room along with the other baskets. Overall is perfect for a minimalist. I'm loving all your videos, thank you.

I looove the wallpaper and the minimalism. The only thing I would change is the lamp, I would have chose a more modern/industrial lamp.

I totally agree with mirabai.. The curtains needed to be changed n cud hv done with a few more bigger plants 🤩..
Agree!! Beef up the curtains a bit. They're a bit skinny and sad
Even just taking them up to fall to the floor would have been an improvement, they would have hung better
THE AMOUNT OF EXCITEMENT I EXPERIENCED WHEN I GOT THIS NOTIFICATION!!! Truly a fun source of entertainment during these unprecedented times 💗💗💗

Love it !! Esp the wall mural. I love how you didn't fill the space with trinkets but kept it simple as he specified. Best wishes from Australia :)
The office area looks nice, but the rest of the space could have used just a bit of something
A cool, slick interpretation of the minimalist style - accented by the great lamp and the plants. Well done😘

minimalist means not having things that doesn't have a purpose like unnecessary decors like the ok sign, not necessities like a sofa

you should do a video about the different brands of washable rugs out there and compare them, and maybe pick some of your favorite designs to showcase.
Love the mural! I think the ceiling light would look better in this space painted black 😀
I love plants. I've been watching these makeovers and it inspired me to start on my rooms at home. First thing bought....mother-in-law tongue plant!
Such a sweet guy
for a minimalist those extra hanging plants were definitely an over kill. also that ok neon light is useless and feel out of place
i think she spent alot of money on things that not necessary she could have painted the wall insted and use the money to fix the curtains
I loved it , looks so calm & relaxing ! & the only thing that matters is if he liked it ! & it looked like he did ! I love plants !!
I like the rug. And the plants.
I love the mural. I’ve been looking for art for my home and this has inspired me to make my own.
Your look in this video intro is perfectly great!
Gorgeous place. I love the mural. Great job!
Love it! However I cannot get over how cute Lottie is! She has such a cute personality! I want a Lottie AND a make over :)
I love plants. Greatings from the other side of the world from Buenos Aires Argentina 🌲🌳🌴🌵🌱🌿☘️🍀
Love love love your videos 😍😍😍
Like that wallpaper. The only space I have for a desk is in my dining room, it works well but I've been super indecisive on layout!
He looks so nice, I wish him well.
You nailed this!👍👍
I liked the big items.
Thanks for the video Alexandra!
I sooo want to work with you! Ahhhhhhhh!.... like team up for uplifting content... congratulations on everything Alexandra!
Love the Miral so beautiful. I like plants but I have no place to put them in my home. I know that sounds crazy but I think about it all the time
A credenza or Buffet, A painted feature wall versus the mural . and a piece of art or wall hanging would have really given this place a bang! Do you really want to put the Alexandra signature stamp on this ?!
I love your videos! It always blows me away when I peek into your comment section - people can be so critical. Keep it up ❤️
Hook up that article connection and get this man a new couch and a coffee table!
Absolutely love ❤️ plants...I have just about 60 houseplants! 😂
The second panel of the mural didn't line up with the first- enough to drive anyone mad!
This one falls pretty flat for me
Looove the mural!
For some unfathomable reason, I've noticed Alexandra's viewers to be quite harsh in their feedback. When you don't like a particular makeover, I guess you're welcome to give some feedback but it doesn't have to be nasty
Also, can the commenters who attacked her about wasting the struggling entrepreneurs money at least read the video description.
@@EJH989 I acknowledge that. And I think she'd also be okay with constructive feedback. But must it be so harsh. :)
Hey Alexandra! 👋😊 he was so reserved. But I do think he liked the space a lot. Many of the comments say, you should have added more things. But you have listened to your customer's needs and wishes. You have done a great job. 😊👍
Alexandra, I love your sense of style! I wish I could see my spaces in the same way that you do. These videos always make my day 😁
What I hated the most was the curtains. They are still there. Sad. But with that said, I love your channel. Great information and very entertaining.
I think he really liked it he a man of few words. He said he liked the plants😊
Loved the mural. I may try it with paint in my bedroom.
I wish you would have given him a new desk at least. It isn't a proper desk.
Cute client you had this time
It was a big room and the end result was warm and fresh and over all a really nice space. He liked it and that is all that matters.
You spent a lot of money for very little effect.
idk if it's just me but whenever I see that light I refer to it as the Alexandra light. loved the wallpaper!
I don't like plastic plants which is common in interior designing... as an interior designer and a minimalist myself it really bothers me when my boss tell me to add fake plants. every time!
I’m not a plant person per se, but some artificial flowers can be beautiful in a space. Low maintenance 💕💕
I think people don’t understand what minimalism is. I also don’t think they get what Natnael wanted from this space, which was a functioning, minimalistic space to run his business that had some coziness added. I think Alexandra achieved the goal. It’s also a great starting place if he wants to add other elements later.
You do such a great job
Puzzled. But always love your enthusiasm!
I liked what you did. He did not want more stuff, the wallpaper is perfect background for his video calls, and the light brings warmth to the room along with the other baskets. Overall is perfect for a minimalist.
I'm loving all your videos, thank you.
