Hey guys! You know those awful ball joints for the wing binders? Here's how to fix them!
I was playing around with my V2 Assault Buster tonight, and got so fed up with the wings just falling off the T-shaped piece that's supposed to hold them up that I disassembled the wings to get the poly cap out to see if I'd put them in the wrong way or something. Since the kit wasn't glued, all I needed to gently prise apart the plastic parts were my nails, but to get the poly cap out of the hole it sits in, you're going to need some kind of rod - I used the straw from a bic ballpoint, it fits through the hole in the plastic part, but not through the hole in the poly cap, so I could push the poly cap out easily.
Then I tried seeing which end of the poly cap had the firmer grip on the T-piece, and noticed that the poly cap itself gets kind of deformed while its holding the ball - it's much wider where the ball is inserted. So I decided to try just inserting poly cap into the wing binder with the ball firmly seated in its socket during assembly, and lo and behold, the wing binder is now gripping the T-piece with a deathgrip and not only doesn't fall off with the slightest provocation, it requires some actual pressure to position the binder.
I am supremely happy with this discovery for obvious reasons, especially since I haven't assembled the other Buster pack yet and won't need to *dis* assemble it to do it right. If I'm not completely mistaken, the same operation can also be done to any other kit using that type of poly cap - I'm looking specifically at the Build Burning and Try Burning, though from the instruction booklet scans, it could get a little tricky to actually get the parts together properly.

The reason for undergated gold part is that they could release chromed limited edition later like HG Astray Gold Frame, not because they changed their mind at the last minute.

I just finished mine up today as my first build. My gripe with the backpack to make the Assault mode is you can only swap the joints out if you're willing to remove/potentially destroy the sticker which isn't something I wanna do, so I may end up getting the regular Victory to fix this issue. And I agree that not having any beam accessories is a bit unfortunate too :(
Personally, I'm not a fan of the chrome gold plating.
The nub clean up is a nightmare and it's just a massive fingerprint magnet.
Love the way this kit looks but god damn the articulation on this one makes me want to pull my hair out, This one was my very first build too lol.
While it is only injecting gold, I till really like the looks of this kit, really tempted to get it, purely for the looks.
You know, I kind of like them separate more, too. I could see myself getting another V2 to make them like that. I guess it'd depend on if I got a good deal as to if that'd be worth it to me, as I do have a regular Victory and I do really like how this looks, and would probably forgive most of these faults (the hollow parts on the beam launcher aren't as bad as some of the Thunderbolt kits, for instance, and I doubt I'd go too dynamic with the legs anyway). the lack of beam parts is kind of irritating, that's the biggest fault to me.
That said, 3300 for both these kits, to do the configuration like you did, that's kind of worth it to me. It's kind of better to have both than just one, in this case, kind of like how it's better to have more Striker pack kits than just one.
Would it be a good idea to use gundam markers on the shield instead of having so much stickers?
Ahhh the hype! I've watched up to episode 41
Bandai doesn't seem to give enough love to V Gundam. They screw up on the scale and half-ass the accessories (and force you to go P-Bandai on the Wings of Light). Furthermore, they won't release proper MG kits (the Ver.Ka kits are way too fragile to transform).
areasevenpro Well we did recently got a Gun Ez in the Re1/100 line.
Another downside: The shield does not separate into the bits.

The three white-red pieces in the mega beam shield are defense bits. They float creating an I-field barrier, somewhat like the fin funnels did for the Nu Gundam, but not as huge.
+SigmaXVirus But those three are somehow detachable. I mean the shield is six pieces, 2 for the "frame",and 4 for the sheld
where are you getting your measurements from to to come up with the scale size? is there something or someone who says the exact 1to1 measurements to base your calculations off of?
Kakarot, I know this is weird to ask, but do you have any unfinished projects? Because I do, and they have collected dust and without top coat have just gone chippy. What would you do to get back into it and work on these models.

I'm going to buy this for a friend and he doesn't like the back pack but likes the regular V2 wings cant you do that with one kit. (not buying 2 kits)
Be aware with its grey colored backweapon's holder that shaped like "T". It's really fragile...Mine got split in a half while converting it into other mode. Just don't mess around with that part

I'm pretty sure the finish is paint, I mean aren't the "box models" always painted up and panel lined?
HyperionGM The finish on the box looks identical to the finish of the MG Hyaku Shiki 2.0 and the HGUC Hyaku Shiki from the Gryphios War triple pack =/
***** which probably means a last minute change in the plastic to make it cheaper to make or something, these ARE the same people who made the Jegan D-type a P-Bandai exclusive remember. (And just for the record if they ever release a recolor of the Revive RX-78-2 in RX-78CA colors it WILL be a P-Bandai)

So this kit is basically mixed pack. Some good things, some bad things.

What are the differences between this and hg victory 2?

Victory 2 Assault is better than Victory 2 Assault buster.

+Kakarot197 I bought two of the things on release, so I've had mine for months now. I don't mind most of the flaws you point out, except the poly caps - the egregious stickers and missing chrome can be easily replaced by paint, the hollow parts are almost invisible except if you really look for them, and the missing effect parts would only be used for the Buster version anyway and I have a regular V2 I'm adding those parts to. (Plus, they're the same effect parts as in the Victory and V-Dash, so if you have those kits you're bound to have some leftovers as the parts won't all fit on one kit...)
The poly caps on the other hand are not so easy to fix, and are to me the only real disappointment. Well, that, and I'd have loved it if they made the kits to the proper scale so the V2 would look even more hilarious next to the Sazabi than it already does. :)
+Sebastian Palm superglue trick,or grab a Gundam Marker and add some layers
***** I actually posted a fix for the wing poly caps a while ago - basically, disassemble the whole thing, and add the poly caps to the T-shaped bar before sticking them back into the holes they go into, and they'll be rock solid. If I lift my V2 Assault or Assault Buster by the wing now, it's the lower half that'll fall off, not the wing.
And I also remember that at least in the animation, the V2 assault buster doesn't have the micro missile pods on the skirts and legs. The V2 buster would have these.
It's the Assault Buster,why the fuck would you leave some parts for the ultimate combination?
It seems to me at least that when the wings are attached on the pods it makes the wings appear way too far from the V2's body. Am I correct to remember that the V2's wings even in buster or assault buster mode were still attached near the body rather than on the pods?
