    Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down the ending of Blue Beetle.
    -
    The new DC movie is now out and throughout this video we're gonna be going through what happens at the end and what's going on with the DCU right now. It's all a bit of a mess and there's lots of things kinda up in the air at the moment with the quote unquote reboot headed up by James Gunn.
    We're gonna be going through it all but Heavy Spoilers ahead so if you don't want anything ruined then I highly recommend that you turn off now. With that out the way, huge thank you for clicking this, now let's get into Blue Beetle.
    -
    Ok so the film follows Jaime Reyes and his family as he finds himself in possession of an ancient alien relic known as The Scarab. Bonding to Jaime it begins a symbiotic relationship with him that grants him an exo-skeleton with incredible powers.
    Taking on Carapax The Indestructible Man and his boss Victoria Kord Jaime learns to get to grips with his new abilities and he becomes a hero for Palmera City. Now this is a fictional place from the comics and originally the character was from El Paso Texas.

    kind of upsetting that even dc fans wont give this film a chance. i thought it was great, with a surprising amount of care for the character. xolo did an amazing job as jaime and i believed the love he had for his family. movie had great action with a lot of creativity, while also feeling true to what we've seen before. carapax definitely could have been fleshed out a bit more but i thought they did well enough by the end of the film. victoria kord was your typical evil billionaire but i thought her reasoning to be was good enough to justify it. the emotional moments of the film landed and i felt a connection to the characters throughout the film even if i couldnt directly relate to them. also thought the cgi held up surprisingly well all things considered. i thought the mystery with ted kords disappearance was the right amount of vagueness to tease a potential story and would love to see both of these versions of blue beetle interact. i really hope more people go and see this movie because im very interested with what they could do with this character and the potential stories they could explore. sadly, i believe youre correct in saying that we wont be seeing these characters again anytime soon based off of initial screening and the discourse about the film overall

    It was def a fun movie. I couldn’t tell the tone at times, though, like if it was a full comedy but also wanted to be taken seriously. That moment when the scientist sacrificed himself and died was craaaazyyy I was not expecting that but I liked it. The war that both Nana and the villain were in could’ve been touched on more as well. I’m Hispanic but I think I preferred the Flash over this, maybe if I watch both again it’ll change and probably bc I’ve just been introduced to this character vs what we already had set up before. I like the comedy, but i think it could be taken some from No Way Home, where it has comedy but also balanced by the seriousness. There were a lot of themes that I wish were explored more and taken more seriously, like the absence of family and what it can do (the villain of the movie) and the death of his father being balanced out with the comedy before it.

    Just saw it and it was surprisingly good !
    I really enjoyed it, flaws & Phase 1 predictability and flat villains included. It felt actually kind of refreshing to get a movie that calls back to a simpler time, caring about family. I tend to feel these types of stories will universally be always more connecting to the audience all over the world rather than an obscure concept such as the multiverse, which, honestly, is really starting to feel tiresome now, despites some smash hits like EEAAO and Spiderverse, which, in my opinion, are the only 2 movies that successfully tackle such a complicated topic, specifically because their writers were smart and/or empathetic enough to tie them directly with their main characters families, as opposed to the Rick&Morty alumni writers who are now plaguing the MCU with their nihilism and cynicism, and since they don't care about anything and are so up there in their asses thinking they're oh so much more clever than the audience (I'm still reeling from the interview of Waldron who did write the great season 1 of Loki, but also butchered the character arc of Wanda post Wandavision in MoM, just because he didn't even bothered to watch Wandavision's script, and just wanted to have fun with both Sam Raimi and with the MCU's most powerful toy (literally his words, Wanda wasn't even a character to him, it was a toy !). Oh, and Jeff Loveness also, to basically saying he doesn't care about the opinion of the audience and is still proud of his work after the squandering of Quantumania ! Just... get the F out, guys !), they are completely incompetent to write stories that connect with big audiences, since they themselves don't care about anything.
    Well, that was quite a big tangential rant.
    But all of that to say that even if Blue Beetle felt very Marvel phase 1 tropey, in the current "everything Multiverse" era, it's actualy refreshing to see a simpler story that focuses on its main character and its direct family. It reminded me of a latino version of Ms.Marvel, which I really liked (despites the similarly flat villain and story), and if these 2 franchises were not separated by the MCU/DCU divide, I could totally picture these 2 characters hanging out and sharing some shawarmas and burritos atop a street light.
    And I for one, am totally looking forward to see Xolo coming back in future DCU movies, as it seems James Gunn has confirmed his iteration of the character will be part of the DCU. He's absolutely the perfect casting for this role.
    As for your joke of James Gunn being stuck between a rock and a hard place (that was pretty funny, actually), I feel like it's not just for this movie, but for his entire roadmap announcement. Sure, in hindsight, we can see it happened way too soon (with 4 movies from the previous DCEU still to come), but we can hardly blame him. He was appointed to the job by Zaslav in November 2022, and the entire world was rabid with foam at the mouth to hear about his roadmap, to be essentially the savior of the DCEU. And he promised he was hard at work, rounding up the best of the best of writers in Hollywood, and would deliver by January 2023 ! Should he have waited for after the 4 movies were out, that was a whole year afterwards, and the world would have eaten him alive if he waited for that long.
    If anything, I believe the fault resides on WB and Zaslav's team (once again) to have announced him as CEO of DCU studio in november 22, just to counter whatever success Marvel was going on at the time. That was waaay too early !
    But hey, Zaslav comes up as someone pretty petty, so what can you do ?

    The initial point to consider is that DC differs from Marvel. When viewing these films, it's crucial to acknowledge their distinct styles. It's advisable to refrain from drawing direct comparisons between DC and Marvel. DC stands as a unique entity, and perpetuating such contrasts is often what contributes to unfavorable perceptions of movies.

    • @Flichter
      @Flichter Год назад

      Oh bullshit.
      The only difference between Marvel and DC is that the top big brains at Marvel saw their characters used disastrously by other studios for decades, so they took back control and made the movies themselves... by literally just retelling the critically acclaimed & fan beloved stories they'd ALREADY told in their comics.
      Ironically, during that same period, DC was absolutely killing it with Batman movies. Who knows what changed or what the hell the top minds at DC/WB are thinking, if there are any top minds at all.
      It's not that difficult to tell a good movie from a bad movie and the box office numbers illustrate that.
      Marvel Studios produced above average to great superhero films and DC does not.
      Maybe because DC incessantly attempts (and fails) to reinvent the wheel, like seriously - how many different Batman/Superman origin stories do we need? Instead of just straight up adapting the tried & true comic book stories that have given DC Comics incredible success for DECADES upon decades.

    • @Flichter
      @Flichter Год назад

      And I'm not even saying Blue Beetle is a terrible film, it's just pointless.
      When you create an origin story flick for a C tier superhero, which exists in a shared universe you've already announced is dead & cancelled.... I mean, what the hell are we even doing?
      It's no shock Black Adam, Shazam 2, Wonder Woman 1984, Flash and now Blue Beetle have all been financial disappointments, far worse than even the crappiest of MCU offerings.

    I completely agree with you about Gunn making the reboot announcement far too early. Why would they announce this big a change, that essentially wipes away all of their then forthcoming movies, YEARS in advance? Seriously they've literally done this years in advance. I don't get it. I don't think anyone does. The only way I can see that making sense if it was done to appease investors or WB board members who were planning to jump ship.
    Essentially he came out and said "Most everything we've done sucks so we're just going to reboot all of it, but we still have 5 or 6 movies in the can that we need to release and even though these movies won't matter, we still want you to go out and put your money down for them because, you know even though they don't count at all and we're just sort of burning out the fumes in the tank, we still want your money. That's why we lied and screwed the entire audience over with the bullshit teese at the end of Black Adam."

    The advertising couldn’t just show the Blue Beetle, it had to grab the audience with something to make them actually care.

Blue Beetle is like a crossover between an 80’s sci-fi flick, a Japanese tokusatsu movie, a latino indie film, and a phase 1 MCU movie. It’s not going to reinvent the wheel, it never wanted to, it just wants to be a damn fun watch with a solid family message. I think it more than accomplished that goal.
