FINALLY I was able to get this video together to help you learn a good way to toss your 8 foot net. also works great on 6-7 footers as well. Remember to NOT throw it too hard, this is the #1 cause of netting failure. I've been using other methods with marginal success for years. sometimes I got a perfect pancake, other times it would get a crescent moon or a big ball poop. Just went and tried your method in the front yard and nailed it every time. thank you so much for uploading this!

Dude, I've been working up a sweat trying to get my technique to be more reliable. Bought a heavier/larger net that was giving me fits! Tried many ways but things were terrible. Your technique worked for me first time! You Da Man! To me (and for anyone else that this may help) the key to me: the hand positions; left arm straight out, right hand on chest. What it, along with your video did, was to illustrate that I was trying to throw the entire thing out there (could get away with it on smaller nets) - the feeling is I'm only 'slingin' the 'front' half of the net and it all spreads out away from me. Ding, ding! Thumbs up.

I have to tell you that is probably one of the best methods I have seen on youtube. You do a really nice job of teaching the method I am a first time buyer of a cast net have not received it yet. But have purchased a lee Fisher cast net thank you very very much. from Austin Texas
+Jim Bilbrey Jim, how is that net doing? The baitbusters are a bit heavy, but very high quality. The joyfish nets (the ones I'm using in this video) are as good as you can get for the money, although they recently went up on price a good bit unfortunately. Good luck with it!

Great instructional video. Works very well, is fast and easy. One thing I would like to mention. You show wrapping the cord around your wrist. It seems like you fish on a lake. No harm. For people who are watching this, who live on the coast, not so much.
Throwing a net over a shark, tarpon, manatee, ect can end very badly. Great Video, just mentioning this

Bought a cheap 10’ net on amazon and I’m using this method,I get some really good pancakes,think I’ll buy the nice fancy net im sure it’ll be a great investment

+PeabodysParadise NP man! We are going to try to do some more striper fishing vids whenever we get time to frig with it. Seems like we're way too busy lately. I actually have more footage from this day that we've never published. It's a couple of advanced variations of this technique. One makes it STUPID easy to throw, the other allows you to throw a low profile net, you can get underneath low objects and also throw into a pretty stout wind.

In the last slow-mo throw of the 8 footer, it looks like you 'spin' the net with your right hand underneath your throwing hand after release. Am I seeing this correctly?

desert1cop If you take a little time to let the net drip out, or shake it a couple of hard times before bringing it in, you can stay bone dry. I've netted for a couple hours and not got a drop on me, and didn't eat any mud.
I didn't see any 10 foot nets on your store site...I'll stop by the shop if you have them in stock.
are you rotating your net hand from palm up to palm down on the way around.
I’ve tried video after video... this one for some reason go through to me and I’m nailing every throw now
Looking for your help, I am shrimping with an 8 foot Bets Sea Green, I previously used an Ahi 300 but the shrimp would escape through the horn, I want to up my net to a ten foot for the extra coverage and the Memphis Net would weigh about the same, and since I'm shrimping in 3-6 feet a one pound per foot net is fine. My question, is what does the horn measure/ look like?
That's a great question. I have had the same problem with baitfish swimming, actually SCHOOLING, out through nets with big horn diameters. The Lee Fisher nets are inconsistent for some reason. The 10'x3/8" Joyfish has an insanely large horn about 2.5" in diameter that lets even bigger bait swim out, and they DO swim out! I discussed this with the owner of the company and he acted like it was no big deal to lose a few baits here and there. :| Betts nets fall apart at the leadline, every single one I've owned. Honestly I still haven't found a good net since Fitec quit making the Pro Selecte.
Betts so far for me has been junk, the sea green is better than the blue I have. I threw it a dozen times today and the blue tangled three times, all the leads in a ball, it is the light brail lines, and the lead line is failing on both. I have a Lee Fisher Mako I picked up on sale for forty bucks, I treat it like a rental car, I pulled in oysters with it numerous times, I've had to repair a few times, the largest from a sting ray that had its barb wrapped in the netting, I had to shake and slam it violently to get it out. That net has paid for itself in shrimp and bait ten times over, and will get another, wish they made it in a ten foot. Have you ever had a Seamaster? from Brunson Net & Supply? I'm thinking about trying one out, I'll let you know how it does.
krankycool As far as durability goes, the Joyfish nets are the toughest I've seen lately in that price range. Now the leads are crimped in place which is a big plus. The 3/8" are blue, which I don't like for clear water. The 1/4 and 5/8 are clear. One problem with the 10 footer is it only comes with a 25' or 30' handline so you have to add to it or replace it if you net on the run or net in deep water. The 8 foot Joyfish nets are very good.

+Fahad Kndry Lee Fisher is the brand Joyfish is the model. The blue net is a 8' x 3/8" and the big one at the end is a 10' x 5/8"
