Hello, like someone mentioned this video is a few years old. I don't know if you will see this comment, but this is the best cast net tutorial I've seen, and i watched several vids. Thanks a bunch
I know this video is a couple of years old, but if you still come back to read the comments once in a while I wanted to let you know that I've been throwing a cast net for about 15 years, with the old net in mouth, tossing net over the shoulder & getting all wet technique. I've watched 10 -12 different videos by different people, and out of all the ones I've seen yours are the simplest, easiest, & best. Always hated putting it in my teeth & getting soaking wet, thank you very much. Liked both your videos & subscribed.
Simplicity makes life fun. I just bought a cast net and glad I stopped by to watch you make it look easier than some super technical ways I saw some other folks did it.
Dude, I gotta tell you. I have been struggling with a net for years, literally years of half moons and bananas. Watched this video three times, went out in the yard and fourth cast... pancake. Thought I just got lucky so I loaded up and... pancake. Tried long toss... pancake. Tried short toss at my feet... pancake. I am sold on your method. Thanks for the video. Now to go get some shrimp... Looking forward to trying this method on my 12 ft net...
Very kind comment and exactly what I want to hear. Glad its helping you! Let me know how it works with your 12ft. You might have to load a little more with the extra lead and net.
I've been messing with my net for ten years and never got the hang of it. I've tried a half dozen techniques(which is part of the problem) and finally found yours which is perfect for my smaller net(6ft). I just spent 20min.practicing and ended with 5 straight bait catching circles (eggs really) so tomorrow I take it to the water. thanks
I will tell you I was the same way and I was only trying to throw 4ft net, never really was able to open it fully every time I found a video a month ago, I'm now able to throw a 10ft net and opens fully every time. All the videos I have ever watched are about technique, the one I found a month ago is the most simple you dont have to have technique you just toss it.. most important is how its held. This guys way is about technique...
Thank you thank you for this vid. I bought a 5 ft cast net to save money on bait. Epic fail watching the other vids. I almost bought the perfect cast net disc until I came a across your vid. Now I throw perfect from the kayak 90% of the time. Thanks again, your vid is off the reel👊🏽
I just watched this video. I wrote down the sequence, and the first throw on the big net, it was "close, far, close", then the second throw, "far, close, close". Your hand movements are fast in the second throw, or im just slow :). Great video either way. Thank you brother.
This actually WORKS !!! I've tried quite a few methods, but nothing worked so far. Mind you, I practiced each of those methods tens of time. Succeed maybe 1 or 2 times... I tried Alex's method and success right from the 1st try, and 2nd, and 3rd. Unbelievable! Much appreciated your instruction, Alex!
Question. At 7:20 he grabs one lead line and puts it in his rt. hand. Then he grabs one far one and then one near one. At 5:01 he grabs the NEAR one and then the far one. Both net throws made a reasonable circle when it landed. Which method is the best? I've tried it both ways and I'm still doing something wrong. Which is best? The near one then the far one or far one and then the near one?
I usually start with near. I realize I did it both ways in this video and it actually won't affect the throw either way. You are still grabbing the same amount of net. It shouldn't matter on the throw though - I've done it both ways with success. Hope it pulls through for you! - Let me know if you have other questions.
I recently bought an 8ft Ultra Spreader (like yours). I get full circle flat spreads with my 4 and 6 foot nets but have had a devil of a time spreading the 8ft. I've tried so many techniques that wouldn't work for me. I'm 80 years old and very thin so strength isn't my strong point. Your way did it for me. After 3 or 4 practice tries I'm throwing consistent pancakes with it now. Thanks loads.
Alex, thanks for this awesome instruction video! My son and I bought a small net and boy did we struggle trying to throw it! LOL Looking forward to catching some bait next time we go Kayak fishing!
Alex, I am 60 disabled and own a boat, your method was very helpful, many different techniques on U tube, right hand left hand etc what is important is the tech that works for me and your did work for me, I have a 5, 6, 8 regular and 8 foot custom net...thanks!
This was really helpful!! I watched this today before going out to net cast for the first time. I have a 5 foot net. I had fish on my first cast! It really was a lot of fun too. Thanks so much for the tutorial.
I dont mean to be off topic but does any of you know a tool to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot my account password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Kason River i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I have been throwing a 6ft net for over twenty years. I set up almost like you do but I catch the near line twice. I've never had a problem. Next time I'm going to try your way.
I am confused. Nobody noticed a contradiction? At the 5:05 video you say: grab the close line first, the father line next. At 7:22 video you say vice versa: fold the far line first, then do the close line. Which one is correct?
Several comments have picked up on this. Sorry for not being clear but it actually wont matter which you do - which I failed to specify. Try both and see which works best for you and let me know!
One of the best instructors and using much simpler methods than others. Two points: 1. It would be better if your camera were a little further back so I can see ALL the lead line. 2.. Using the "like a frisbee throw" is confusing. 99% of frisbee throwing is an underhanded, palm up, from the chest out, throw. You are referring to the outside, palm down long distance frisbee throw done only by serious frisbee throwers. This is confusing to the audience. Otherwise, one of the best instructions I've seen.
Are you doing anything special with your left hand or just letting going at the same time you throw it? I've seen other videos saying to hold it until you feel it and then let go.
at the start of the 6 ft you grabbed a weight then close then far but for the long throw you grabbed a weight then far then close was that a mistake or is that the way to load it for the far throw
Great video helps me a lot. But i have a question.when u bring the lead line up the 2nd time. Sometimes the lead will be behind the net sometimes in front. Does it matter where they are
I'm not 100% sure what your asking specifically here so I'll guess what your asking and try to answer. As long as the lead isn't interfering with the main part of the net coming out of your hand you should be fine.
Hey thanks for showing me how to throw that for footer I'm kind of new at shrimping in Florida everybody show me different ways you got the best way of throwing a net nice and easy thanks
Thanks a lot Alex . 👍👍 A very good instructions & the best method ever seen . How about the 10 or 12 feet's ones , is it the same method or some little difference ? Specially in the rest of the holded net part ?? 🤔🤔 ⚘⚘⚘ Best Regards & Warm Wishes From Kuwait/ M.East Yaqoob Kareem
You can potentially use this with a 10 foot net but I wouldn't recommend it. There are some other better methods for very large nets like these that I dont have much experience with. Unless your netting commercially or for food purposes you dont usually need a 10 ft+ net. Sorry I can't be more help in that regard. I've never needed a net that large so I never learned it.
You can do both - depending on what you are trying to catch. Most bait fish like Shad, Herring, Pilchards and other silver sided baitfish can't really be chummed. They are either sight casted to, caught in waters where they are known to be, or marked on a depth finder and then caught that way. Fish like sunfish, bluegill, and shiners can be attracted in with bread and other chums. This is a short list of course but an example none-the-less.
A technique I learned from another video which was very helpful was to get a bath towel hold a corner in right and left hand and toss it on a bed with a spin making it land flat. This helped me get the proper motion with my toss.
I think your method is good. However, one time you say to take the line closet to your body first and then you say take the line furthest from you first.....which is correct? Thank you
