This is the height of James Hetfield's vocals. There was something so Angry and Heavy about his voice on this Album. And Eye of the Beholder displays that more than any other song on the Album. His voice had this conviction and authority and weight and depth. The layering just made it feel like God sent him from the heavens and he stepped down from a cloud and started booming that voice out into the world, the woe that is coming and waiting for us.
Het’s voice is definitely at it’s thrashiest on this record and it just flows with aggression and true grittiness. But I still think his reach is at it’s best on the Black album, with the Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters as the most effective examples.
Its sad that AJFA has received more attention due to its mix (as they buried the bass guitar) than to the lyrical content of its songs. It IS a masterpiece, written by 25 year old James Hetfield.
Only issue I see is the bass, others complain it sounds "tinny" or something. But that guitar tone is one of my favorites EVER, and the lyrics and riffs are some of the best and most important from Metallica IMO. MoP and AJFA are definitely tied for my favorite Metallica album.

Partly thats true, but the bass on this was turned to zero, so we do not hear it. With cliff, you would definitly heard that more. Love to see your excitement on these Metallica reactions. I actually never really gave the lyrics to this song that much analysis back in the day, but man it hit's home today. I think you focused on the wrong line though. It's the next line that is the key. "You can do it your own way, If it's done just how I say" It hearkens back to the days of Henry Ford. He said you could have a Model T in any color you want, as long as it is black. You can do it your own way, as long as it's the way the Facebook, Twitter, RUclips, Instagram, and Hollywood want you to.

Jamez's spitting anger and delivery of the lyrics on this entire album spoke to us Gen X'ers nearing the end of the 80's. It's also why some of us were so disappointed in the band in a few years. But .. none of that, this album is a masterpiece.
And Justice was my intro to Metallica soon after it came out. Then I watched Cliff 'em All. Cliff Burton made me into a musician. Got a bass the very next Xmas. Now a world music percussionist for over 20 years. Thank you Cliff. Oh yeah... great song & review ;)

I used to steal my moms cassette player, or boom box (for all you cool kids lol), and play this cassette when it came out over and over and over until it started warping.. lol it’s pretty cool to see someone experience it for the 1st time.
Very relatable song in 2021....
This song was my first sample of Metallica 24 years ago. Been a huge fan ever since!
You have made me happy Alex, and the fact you actually listened to my idea (and others) to do entire albums is hella dope as the kids say.
Hears first note and starts headbangin'. He's done gents. He's complete metalhead now. Congrats from Turkey, Alex
Finally! I love this song
The LEVEL of GRIT in James' voice...
God damn it!
I agree with several comments on here. Best advice is after you finish this album, go back and review Kill Em’ All and Ride the Lightning before progressing to the Black Album and beyond. It is so incredibly necessary to completely review the earliest work first. You will understand after doing so. Great reaction!!!
I’m loving this Metallica kick you’ve been on. Freaking fun as hell. I can’t wait until you get to “Garage Days.” If you don’t know it was an EP released back in 87’ (i think) with some banging covers. They released garage inc in 98’ with another full album of covers in addition to the original album.
I have the '87 version (on cassette no less)....it's fire!!
@@darlenerogers I found it at a record shop in Chicago back in the mid 90’s. Scooped it up but one of my ex-friends stole it. Stole my Kill Em All with “Am I Evil” on it too. Suuuuuucked.
@@Thunder978 I know I bought it in some store in the late 80's....I have one friend that still asks me if I still have it....yeah that would suck
Sincerely, this is their best album for me, it has great riffs, solos, also Lars perfomance is his best, no words about the lyrics and the intensity of each song that makes you smash something and also makes you cry.
Agreed, this is where Metallica peaked imo. Sadly it went downhill from there
@@Mop_v21 i would say they went downhill after The Black Album
perpetual goosebumps...the intro to that guitarsolo starts at 5.31....and yes Alex...your senses were spot on! probably my favourite part of that song.....as I know that "Ohhh" all too well ....you did when the solo started
Love to see your excitement on these Metallica reactions. I actually never really gave the lyrics to this song that much analysis back in the day, but man it hit's home today. I think you focused on the wrong line though. It's the next line that is the key. "You can do it your own way, If it's done just how I say"
It hearkens back to the days of Henry Ford. He said you could have a Model T in any color you want, as long as it is black.
You can do it your own way, as long as it's the way the Facebook, Twitter, RUclips, Instagram, and Hollywood want you to.
this is my favorite metallica album
....You can do it your own way....IF it's done just how I say!!
Today for sure sad
3:48 "Independence limited. FREEDOM OF CHOICE IS MADE FOR YOU, MY FRIEND!"
Have been listening to a lot of the songs you react to for so long... and yet you help me see a different aspect to (most) of them!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏿🤘
ride the lightning needs to happen after thus album
Uploading EARLY today! Mocha and Metallica in the mornin'!
I fucking love that he starts every video with something positive and then ends it with something positive. Good shit.
I love it when people who are much younger than me listen to Metallica and get it and figured out why this is my favorite band of all time.
Next up is the shortest straw aka the song that destroyed my fingers while trying to learn the solo
(I know one is next on the album but he’s already reacted to one)
You seriously need to check out the Ride The Lightning album or Kill em All after this one!!! those 2 are my favorite Metallica albums !
I'm stoked your keeping your Metallica journey rolling. U da man🔥🔥🔥
One thing about Metallica is their lyrics are literally pure poetry.
Hehehehe "The Shortest Straw" is next, prepare my friend
This is Metallica's best album.
Agree!
yes 👍
This is my favorite full album of theirs
I feel it is THE most true metal of all of their work from start to finish. The musicianship, lyrics, content, speed, and softness. It’s just an epic listen
Absolutely loved this video keep up the good work Alex all love brother!!
It's my favorite album. You will catch no crap if you end up liking it better than Master of Puppets. They're are lots of fans in both camps.
It is SO sad that Metallica wrote this album over 30 years ago.... and the problems it calls attention to have only gotten worse.
the thing is that you explained the song in today's context and it worked, and this song came out in freaking 1988. real art never dies.Metallica forever
Even as a metalhead, this is one album from Metallica I missed so its great doing this with ya. And even with the other songs, you tell us the meaning, so that's pretty awesome. Have a dope ass day!
U should react to the new goijra album or X ray annihilation by degenerate, they are a really cool local band
sick tattoos yo
Eye of the beholder is so underrated!!!
Also we all love you so much man🤘🏽🖤💪🏽
The intro guitar rhythm on this song hypes me up. And you talked through it lol it's OK it's a reaction channel
Jamez's spitting anger and delivery of the lyrics on this entire album spoke to us Gen X'ers nearing the end of the 80's. It's also why some of us were so disappointed in the band in a few years. But .. none of that, this album is a masterpiece.
I could not agree with you more. I saw the Justice tour in Montreal in 1989 and I still have very vivid memories of that evening and I am 48 yo now.
Since you’ve already listened to One, why not try the live version from Seattle 89 for the next track instead?
Nice suggestion
I did have long hair and I did bang my head. This is my all time favorite Metallica song. Keep Rock Alive!! 🤘🏽🖤🔥🙌🏼 ℁
MANDATORY METALLICA MONDAY MORNINGS!!!
FRAYED ENDS OF SANITY ples
Of all their songs Lars Ulrich picked this as their worst song which is fucking ridiculous
"You can do it your own way..."
"...if it's done just how I say" (this is the important line)
And Justice was my intro to Metallica soon after it came out. Then I watched Cliff 'em All. Cliff Burton made me into a musician. Got a bass the very next Xmas. Now a world music percussionist for over 20 years. Thank you Cliff. Oh yeah... great song & review ;)
Re-react to Metallica One from the S&M live performance. It’s insanely good.
Give this post some likes if you agree so Alex sees this!
Also Harvester of Sorrow from Moscow 91.
Day 46 asking for reaction to Don’t Follow by Alice In Chains
The whole Jar of Flies album please.
@@Pepsolman yes 👍🏼
This is the best week ever lmao. I love these chain reactions (??)!
Energy derives from both the plus and negative…so true, James!
remember when I found my dad's old cassettes. I was in primary school, listening some shitty radio music at that time. I tried Metallica, the name was intriguing and AJFA's cover looked interesting. I fell in love immediately, that was something different. And here I am now, 23, still having goosebumps at that riff 3:28
😊 so you got me to thinking about all of my Metallica cassettes, and then all of my cassettes and then holy crap my entire childhood! Thanks for the ride kid...✌️🌻
I will never get over that harmony
I absolutely love the harmony/solo section of this song. It was always my least favorite track on the album when I was younger but now it's one of my favorites.
Right on man, welcome to the club... By far the best Metallica record "...And Justice forever.
