this laptop is a legend. I think it's been 12 years and mine is still going strong. It was the cheapest laptop on the market $400 at the time and I would love to know if anyone makes laptops like this anymore. Well built, nothing broke down after all these years.
How do you charge it without a charger?
My dad got a similar laptop back in 2009 but it was 1000$ . My mom uses is now as a Browsing laptop but now she went with a modern tablet . I will get it and will modernise it with a SSD and a new battery :)

I still have mine with the intel version, the DV5 1190ep with GT9600 and Intel T9400 (currently with the T9600) and a SSD. works great in windows 10. although I almost never use it as its only porpuse its to sync my drives, its basically a NAS. An incredible laptop indeed.

I've had it since 2008 and it's my main work tool. Apart from the battery, that stopped working almost immediately, it hasn't failed me not one moment. I love it with all my heart!

I had this for about two years until it became scrap after heat problems. It's the best looking laptop I've ever seen. Those touch sensitive media buttons are amazing. I miss it so much!

Damn! I actually had this laptop but in a brownish/champagne color. It was definitely the best computer I had owned at the time. I still have it (not using it anymore obviously), it's just really slow and the battery dies 3-5 minutes if I unplug it.

@@bircinadarius Certainly, I played mafia2 cod3, gta4, ets2, Pubg Emulator, ets2 and more games, but it has no battery (finished very fast) I also use cooler fan for warming problem. And ram was upgraded to 4GB.

@@eren5036 yea, the battery of this dv5 is problematic, I used it without battery, but the keyboard really is rigged for gaming as well.

Yeah HP’s have problems with them over time. I had the base model 2017 HP 15, and the hard drive and other things died out in 2020.

Had this from 2008 to 2011, it ended up basically falling apart due to the adhesives not being able to take the heat the AMD chip was putting out. That being said when it did work it was a pretty good experience, even for more intensive stuff like games.

I am STILL running my 2008/9 HP DV5 in 2020! I am shopping for a new laptop this summer... I ordered mine with a Core 2 Duo and 7200 HDD. I already replaced the HDD once, and my video controller card is starting to die... and I immediately got rid of MicroSuck Windows and loaded Linux Mint.
I am trying to switching it on now!!!

Dang laptops had a lot of ports back then. These days its like they want everything to be wireless *cough cough MACBOOK*
Mine is 1210ef, saved from the trash! Just changed the screen that was broken, upgraded to 4GB of ram, Turion Ultra ZM-87, 120Go SSD and replaced the disc reader with 500Go HDD and added internal bluetooth (mini pcie adapter to usb from aliexpress!). It's a multimedia beast! I still use it everyday.

So i got this just a few days ago from my sister. Can this laptop run games? Im not talking about high graphical games but more along the lines of Team Fortress 2, League of Legends, and maybe Call of Duty and such? Basically just the basic looking and running games normal PC's can run. Hope you read this. Thanks!

I have this laptop (my mother bought it in 2008), all the important photos and family memories were stored in it. Last year it broke down and I can't turn it on. Any tips? I tried bringing it to a computer store, but they can't do anything.
Try to remove the hDD of the lap and connect it to another pc or something
remove the hard drive from the laptop and get a SATA to USB cable to transfer over the files on it to another computer. If the hard rive is dead you could send it to a data recovery service though that may be expensive depending on where you live.

I can see then this Laptop are be so especially Nice because so Has a "GeForce 9600M" (Intel Core 2 Duo P8400) and can be so still rendering fine for "240-720p" on to KDEnLive with BionicPup, also 4GB 800MHz RAM is a Standard - if You want use Common then "Lubuntu 20.04" are be so main standard and so buy at 32GB SSD.

It's a good pc for a year or two then the over heating will begin, so you are out of luck and a pc.

Still running till now, I played a lots of time for gaming at first newer. Still work with this after upgrading ram to 4Gb, and a few time reinstalling the OS...and now I'm thinking to put windows 10 on it.
Let me know if this can running windows 10 without any problem?.
@@gazzthrex Can install win 10 but the D-Sub/VGA side is too hot and automatic shut down....... and my DV5 because all motherboard has been broken cannot repair, so find some people to help me fix it.
@@gazzthrex just cloned my HDD from newer laptop with Windows 10 installed to an SSD. And yes it worked on dv5. And now SSD is my boot device as my HDD was damaged while raging in-game.

I have 2 special editions of this laptop, both of them are white. One of them is severely broken and the other one is next to perfect condition. It works fine.
