This laptop was not starting, just a black screen and flashing caps and num-lock. HP flash code chart shows this laptop to have bios corruption. This video outlines the possible solution to this problem including the fix. Good Luck. There's alwaysafix. Visit my site for extra info.

Omg this totally fixed my black screen problem. My laptop has been unuseable for 7 years because of the black screen. I was so afraid of letting other techies fix my laptop because they might mess it up more than fix it. Thank you so much!
3 flashes removed the RAM sticks. Held down the powerbutton for one minute, brought the ram back in held down the powerbutton for one minute again worked like a charm THANK YOU!!

Wow! My Dv7 had been experiencing boot failure and was getting stuck at the initial screen indefinitely. Removing the battery and power and, press and holding power has fixed the issue. Thanks a ton.
@maurinella yamballa Remove charger and battery. Hold power button for one minute continuously. Replug charger and see if it boots. Good luck!

CMOS Battery Taking out and RAM reset worked for me, after flashing a new BIOS it was not loading from black screen.

I have the Same model, it overheats! I cleaned this cooling system, new thermal grease. Now it overheats later, but stil overheats, what can I do now??? Many a new bios that turns the voltage down a bit?!

I have a HP dv7-4263cI, I've done the remove battery and power supply step then did the ram sticks 1 by 1 and switched places with the ram sticks. it still powers on with black screen and fan running with hard drive sounds of booting up, cap lock LED light blinks just once with the F12 key staying lit. Any suggestions? oh FYI the HP will power up once in 6 months. I know its sounds crazy but it only turns all the way on and runs fine. then reboot it and it starts all over again. It literally has me puzzled.

According to HP blink code error table, you have a problem with your CPU. This is not something you can sort out yourself, it will need to go in for repairs. This may end up being quite expensive. Make sure you get a quote first. Good luck!
Fortunately it worked for you by just holding the on/off button. But unfortunately for me that didn't work. Can't u make a video about how to fix the problem by taking out the RAN and such!? He have the exact same laptop and it blinks twice just like u(caps lock nun lock)Would be very helpful if u did. Thanks!

I saw this laptop you worked on and mine was very similar and had the same two lights lit up on it....near Caps Lock and above the keypad on my HP DV7. But when her laptop started to work, you stopped to troubleshoot the problem...and my lights are still flashing and my screen is still black.

No it was some screw that have come lose inside the device near the monitor and have to be screwed in. Which has caused movement of monitor and wires causing it look like the motherboard or harddrive is damaged. Should check that next After this and you shall see it is fixed.
I have the same laptop and the same problem, "reapetidly two flashes a little stop and again". I turned off the laptop from the start button. After a while I started the laptop and it was started normally. The problem is remain but not every time I turn on the laptop. Another critical point is that the laptop it is very hot after some minutes of operation.

If you do not have any vital information that needs saving, you can run factory restore which will restore the computer back to factory default. You will lose everything on the computer, so only do this if you are 100% sure you have nothing that you need.
Removing the battery and holding the power button only worked once for me, now it wont work at all.
I've already reseated/swapped the ram (together and even one by one).. I doubt both chips are bad and the laptop has been able to turn on a few times in the last couple days, but sometimes it doesnt want to. The only light that turns on is the Wifi/antenna looking button.
When it turned on I was able to backup stuff and able to run system restore so I could put it to factory. It was able to Restart fine, but as soon as you did a SHUT DOWN, you were stuck at a black screen until it wanted to show up again.

alwaysafix I keep hearing it could be the video card that's not making contact, but I heard that even fixing that wont necessarily last very long.
***** If you research the specifications of your machine, and it says integrated graphics that means the GPU is part of the motherboard. Maybe you need to look at finding a trusted repair shop for reballing the GPU. Good luck!

I have a HP avillion detachable X2 energy star so I can't remove a battery as it works like a tablet and connects to the keyboard. I can't get into BIOS to restore the computer and it doesn't turn on. When it does it comes up with a sign to say low battery but I charged it all night
this happened before when my computer had low battery and I accidentally got into BIOS and fixed it but now I can't remember how to do it. I have tried every button combination there is a few times I have gone into BIOS it says I can't continue without plugging in the charger which I do but then the countdown goes to 0 and it turns blank again.
I don't think it's allowing me to go into BIOS when my charger is in so I have to plug it in as soon as I access it but it never works and I can't click on continue as my keyboard mouse won't allow me to move (my friend accidentally broke my screen to touch screen no longer works only the keyboard which seems to be frozen when I enter BIOS)
I get an error message saying that the storage capacity for the battery is very low. The battery may need to be replaced.
After I hit okay, it sounds like it's loading up, but I just get a blank black screen with my cursor. Not sure if it's a loading issue, or maybe a monitor issue? I tried the different outputs because sometimes I hook it up to a projector, but no luck.Any ideas?

It's the GPU, have a Compaq Presario R3000Z CTU that did the same thing to 2 main boards.. Fried the nVidia GPU's as it ran too hot... Cooling system in it was completely clear of debris...just bad cooling design. No reason to continue to pay 150.00 for new main board when it's a design flaw, although still every other part works fine... :(
I have a similar problem on my HP dv5. for mine, nothing turns on except for the caps lock light (which blinks once) and the power button. nothing else turns on. just those two lights. can you please help !!!!
Step 1 - do a reset, remove battery and charger hold down power button for 30 seconds, replace charger and see if it powers on. Step 2 - reseat the memory modules, and try and power on with one module at a time. Take care that the laptop is powered off when plugging and unplugging the memory. Good luck!

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 with Caps lock blinking twice every 3 seconds and F12 or wireless button orange, I tried everything, removing the RAM, removing the Battery and Holding power button, even removing the cmos battery and is not working
This resolution didn't work for me...
My issue is >> Caps Lock blinks 3 times and stops for a few seconds, then starts blinking again for 3 times and stops, this behavior continues for 3 times and then power LED turns off for a few seconds and gets turn on again.. Then caps lock starts blinking again and this loop continues forever... please help me to fix this problem....

Hay I have HP pavilion xf328 it always says its charging then about 30 minutes to hour . when I unplug it after 3 minutes it says low battery . some one told me to delete the acip controller for the battery turn off lab top reinstall battery and let it redownload everything . if this does not work what else could it be . I pulled out battery and it says 100% on its own tester .

I have a blk screen w/ red WiFi steady, 1 red USB & 1 white USB light & Cap Lock white blinking light continuously & white light where power cord goes. That's all. Nothing shown w/ bright light. I can't find a button that goes down when lid is shut. There's nothing like that on the outside. I unhooked the cable from this pc & hooked it up to laptop though laptop doesn't have the screws on each end but it fit. Oddly, the power button on the monitor was amber instead of green. It goes to amber when this pc is in sleep mode but green when awake. So, that has me puzzled & I think it might be imp. HP piece of junk, took off bottom panel, it's a large piece, very difficult to keep popping panel on & off while trying to pull out RAM pieces & changing them all around. Even tried the blow dryer some people have posted.. It's supposed to have a repair section but how am I supposed to use it when I can't get anything on the screen? I've tried all the Ctl Alt Del, Ctl Alt Esc, F8, F9 & nothing. I've gone as far as I can go. Last chance - maybe someone has an idea that I'm able to do & that I haven't already tried??

hi @alwaysfix. i have been facing this problem for 1year in my dv5. but i stopped using that laptop and niw using lenovo.now after 1 year i tried to repair my gv 5 laptop. i noticed the led blinks. n i tried all possible options to diagnosed myself. first with drain all battery power ,remove and tried different rams and lastly connect my laptop with another with another one using vga cable and somehow my laptop turn on suddenly. first i forgot my passowrd n again i install news OS and started to using the laptop.but the system is lil bit slow and next the the laptop screen again turned black and led blinking. but i removed my battery and power on the suuply using adaptor. n it starts without battery. 2years earlier i changed my DV5 battery with some unauthorized bands so my question is -is this all because of duplicate battery ? pls help me
Yes a battery could definitely cause your problem.

try disconnecting the cmos battery and turn the laptop on , then turn it off ,reboot with cmos batt. plugged

I have a DV5 1110em that is refusing to boot (has corrupt BIOS by the looks of things - 2 blinks on caps and num lock).
I have tried the fix above but am getting absolutely nothing.
I notice in the video you said about renaming some files (BIOS) - I'm assuming create a bootable USB disk, extract the driver files (downloaded from HP), then rename one of them (I believe you then create 3 copies of this file and change the extension). then I need to hold the windows key + B to prompt the system to update the BIOS.
As i say, I just need to know what the files need to be called - If you could help, I would be really grateful.

and how to reseating the ram my hp pavillion g6 is running with external monitor but only with his own monitor it cant load i get small flash one point of square like a planet in the galaxy.i tried to change the screen completely but still it doesnt work it works only with small screens.even the IT doesnt know what to do.maybe the factory recover will fix the problem
If it's not the screen it could be the lvds cable, or even a faulty GPU. Troubleshoot in that order. Good luck!
My DV7 laptop will power on, but the sound and the network lights stay orange, the caps lock and num lock buttons keep flashing and won't stop.
If it's any help, I tried draining of the power but that didn't work either.

sir my notebook is hp pavilion dm1. when i want to do reinstaling my notebook use recovery, um.. sorry for my poor english. first whwn i getting on my notebook i was press esc button, it make display option like recovery in f11 butoon, (it the button i was press) (many i'm do recovery like this and and ai made it) but not this time, when i press the f11 button, after the green display (that seem like ray of sun shine from above with the cursor in the middle of screen you know that) my monitor just blank, black screen but my notebook still on, i try it many time and it blank again after i press the f11 button. now i just want to asking to you, how i can fix it?? i hope you know how to solve my probem sir. ^_^

Before you think about unsoldering the battery from the motherboard, you can test it with a multi meter to see if you get the 3 volts. If you do, it would indicate a different problem. Good luck!

good day ,my hp 6730b flashes 5 times then boots up fine into Ubuntu ,when i try install windows it just hangs on the Starting windows screen and just flashes ,i have tried different ram sticks ,HDD and tried loading win 8 ,win 7 today i even tried windows 10 ,all with no luck at some stage it just hangs
Try disabling the lan adaptor from the bios and see if there is any change. Good luck!
