- BWR California is the final stop of the Belgian Waffle Ride Tripel Crown held just outside of San Diego in San Marcos, CA. We came in with high expectations of finishing on the Tripel Crown Podium. However, it was not meant to be as I had an off day on the bike and slipped down the ranks. Here's the Story Of how it happened!

I've battled chronic pain both on and off the bike for the the past 11 years. Since starting this program in 2022, I've felt so much better and was able to complete a cycling season in 2023 with no overuse injuries! If your having trouble with pain as I was, I highly recommend giving this program a try!

6th is great, well done. It's never a straight raid to the top. Despite this result you're still heading in the right direction!
Great commentary and I like the teamwork with your wife and you.
Great stuff Joe, thx for sharing your vulnerability and perspective :)
Awesome video. You and your wife are amazing, I love your honesty.
Very inspiring ! We all have off days. I think they are more interesting than super successful ones. Your dog is so cool! He doesn’t care how you finished, he loves you anyway!
Great commentary thank you
Everything will work out the way you want - just keep going, don`t stop!!! =)
Keep pushing forward!
Excellent video, Joe. I love the narration of your thought process during the race. Great support by Kendra and Roxy! Keep up the great work. 😀
I know this was not the result you prepared for and yeah that hurts to have a setback like that but I can tell you that myself, and so many others really enjoy and learn from your productions. You and your wife do a great job of laying out what it takes to compete at that level. From the stretching, to the nutrition, the bike setup, the camera setup, the pre-rides, it all makes for a great viewing experience and in my eyes makes the placing secondary, at least from the viewers perspective. I have raced at that level, and later produced Pro Cycling videos in the USA and Europe, both are very hard, elite callings, and it often feels like no one is paying attention, especially in the wallet. You balance the two very well and do a stellar job. I really appreciate you and hope that you get the results that you deserve. Good luck at Unbound!
Thank you sir! It’s a big undertaking to do the filming along side racing at this level, but I absolutely love it and need the filming and editing to fulfill the creative side of me! I believe it will lead to being able to do these two things full time in the future, just not quite there yet!
You get better and better each year and kinda feel are a dark horse in the gravel game man. Keep at it! Love the content and inspiring for me to keep training hard too! 🤘💪🏼
Great video as always. The story telling and production are top notch.
Great message wrt Rise Stronger. Thank you for the inspiration. Stoked you’re so strong these days.
Sorry you weren't on top of your game, but really appreciate your video, the insights, a really pro recap! Wish you better success with your upcoming races. Thanks for the great content!
You'll get em next time! Thanks for the content.
Thanks for the video. Bad days will happend but its how we bounce back that will define us. Keep pushing and Rise Stronger 🦾
Thanks for the video, Joe. I appreciate you sharing it with us. Have a good weekend!
Thanks!
Thank you Matt!
Very nice ride
Dylan Johnson inspired comment? 🕵🏻♂️
Ha ha, but really you’re killing it. I’m looking forward to the next one
Way to persevere through a tough day.
Great race, the start of the race was the deciding factor. The first climb. Once that string broke, it was it. Like you said, finding yourself out of position.
It's hard to get back and stay on. Great effort never wave the white flag.
These races look like they are deciding in the beginning. The first group breaks off, and it's chase time for everyone else. Just my opinion. Anyway, congrats on 6th overall 👏
4:08 UNDERSTATEMENT! ;)
expensive fun fact, when using SRAM 1x - to mitigate chain drop if you don’t want/cannot use the K-Edge full chain catcher - Ceramicspeed OSPW have multiple spring engagement points. Stiffest = less chance it will drop because the stock clutch mechanism on the SRAM derailleurs is not as strong as the GRX. Same applies if going mullet with the SRAM AXS Eagle derailleurs.
send it!
🔥🔥 👀👀🇧🇷🇧🇷
Looking for a link to buy that kit
I moved it to the top of the description now, but here it is, Your Price is "Team Price" - jakroo.com/store-front?storeId=rkghSruqa Thank you for your Support!
Flat top doesnt play well with the Helix cassette. Running an eagle xx1 chain would fix the issue.
I was thinking about giving that a try, maybe I’ll put it back on with that after unbound!
I had no idea you had compartment syndrome! I am actually considering getting the surgery myself. Do you feel like having the operation was worth it for you? Sounds like you didn't have a good outcome if you have been battling with chronic pain afterwards.
Hi there, yeah it was a pretty rough operation and they messed up a nerve in my right leg causing my foot to feel like it was burning and a constant stinging feeling in my big toe. The nerve pain was the hardest thing I’ve ever delt with and was pretty severe for 4 months. Still comes and goes but I don’t think of it much. With the compartment syndrome symptoms I’d say I was worse off even a year after surgery. However, I talked to ivar (winner of unbound 2 years ago) who also had it and has surgery and it went great for him. So it’s hard to say… but I would not do it again if I could go back. Best help I’ve found is finding where your limited in range of motion and body function and working on that. Also deep tissues massage paired with a liscensed acupuncturist who has the long needles that go deep into the muscles! If your in the Minneapolis mn are I know a person! Also have some good ones in the Salt Lake City area where I live now!
Good Morning, you may want to fix the spelling of Tripel to Triple? Love your content!
It’s the Flemish spelling that BWR uses for the Belgian influence on the race! Thanks for watching!
@@jgoettl2.0 Thanks! #learnedsomethingnew 😀
@@JosephDowski no problem, the first time I put a post up for the “Tripel Crown,” I spelled it “triple” and was corrected by the good folks at BWR, learning something new then too!
Doing the hard sections on drops is kinda crazy
Being in the drops puts your weight a little lower and further back than on the hoods. It’s better for techy sections.
@@efraerI came here to ask that question myself. I’m a newbie and it seems being the drops would be more difficult in the techy sections. I guess I need to do some experimenting and practice that.
@@rug212It took me a little bit to figure it out, too. My background is road, MTB, with a little CX many years ago. I quickly found that being lower was better. Practice will give you comfort and confidence. 👍
I have long fingers so I can reach the brake lever and feather it better with my pointer finger just as I do on the mtb and I feel my center of gravity is lower. On the hoods in singe track I just have a hard time with the brakes and feel too high up!
@@jgoettl2.0 & @efraer thank you the insight guys.
Really enjoy these videos Joe! Keep the faith in your abilities!😀
Thank you again Hugo!
