Definitely agree with point 2 Chris. I’m a new dad so structuring my rides where I can get all of my work done in 1-1.5 hours before baby wakes up in the morning eliminates all of the guilt of riding!

I subscribed for your Fashion Fridays, was not disappointed by the cafe cap wearing option. I like the subtle nod to "backwards cap" Dylan Johnson!

Great rationale with pros and cons Chris…. Ultimately getting a coach is entirely dependent upon what your goals are - and how you plan to get there… 🍻

Best advice i have had for a very long time. I have qualified for the Grand Fondo World Championships, I now have a coach that is working with me based on me and what I need.
I must add that I enjoy your videos.

A coach is much more than given a program to follow. They help with the times when you are struggling with form mindset etc. They can help with the mind struggles.

pretty sure the RUclips algorythim is based on the Dunning Kruger effect....and at 53 no i absolutely don't need a coach...a chiropractor might be nice tho ...

Thank you for actually answering the question! I think coaching may be right for me in about a year but the gains I can make on my own with my knowledge from being coached as a JR I hope can get me to at least a 250 ftp at 75kg. Currently 80 kg and don’t even know my ftp.

A coach is useful to help manage training load and progressive overload. But ultimately a coach is a compromise of your expectations vs his. Ultimately, no coach is the best option if you understand and accept the science of cycling - loads of Z2 peppered with intensity. The science doesn’t lie and best not to overthink it or employ s.o. who overthinks it

I have always trained a lot of Z2 in the 7 zone model, but turns out I was training too high in Z2. Did a lactate test in early Feb and since then I have been training at max 124bpm (of max HR of 177bpm) and low. z2 power. Plus I’ve been doing 2 intense sessions a week focused on fatigue resistance around threshold. Those 2 sessions involve 50mins-1hr of Z4 inside a 3hr workout (rest of those 2 workouts at low Z2). Already feeling big benefits

You need to ask yourself "Am I coachable?" If you are looking for a coach to improve, but not open or willing to change, then a coach is probably not for you.

Getting a coach was the best thing I did for my cycling. It drastically improved my fitness, but it also gave me daily goals and motivation to get better. Great video 👌

Amen to that 👌to me, my brain says if I don't thick off today's session, the coach will be mad!! Get it done.

I use a coach because I will destroy myself one week and then crawl for the next 2. So i got one for the structure and progressive overload as I need someone objective to do plan. I also dont like looking at my fitness numbers. Im a much happier person if I just see workouts and my daily ride plans. Since I cant write a plan because I get carried away.

You don't need a coach, just a faster bike and pro kit.

  • @sharonrae429

I am super slow…a crap rider but I have a coach and it is simply I know they will help me improve and motivate me. Prior to cycling I rode horses and it is commonly accepted you need help and guidance of a coach but for some reason cycling people do not think that. It is amazing the comments I get since getting a coach on how I much I have improved but for me the best thing was the personal feeling of improving, getting stronger and the fittest I have ever been. Without a coach I would not be as committed but yet I still know I will never be racing or a fast cyclist with or without a coach.

For beginners and For motivational purposes many do need a coach. If you understand Sports and have the mentality to push yourself you don't need anyone.

Well balanced pros and cons. Perhaps you could add to the reasons for a coach - if you haven't had a coach but really want to win but results wise have only done alright, a coach could help break through that ceiling.

I don’t think the difference between winning an not is a coach an that also goes for 105 or dura ace. If your going to win a race then it will happen.

you are so right about 170 k rides I was one of those people, I did get better but not as much if I had a coach, I was a beginner then and I was competing with a club, I think a coach is a good idea if you are serious about racing or performance it will save a lot of time for beginners it will teach you what you need to know about volume, intensity, and recovery.

Best person for a coach is an A Type personality that goes out and smashes too many workouts at too high intensity or does hard group rides all the time and doesn’t recover enough - result = plateau. They need to be told because more is not always better. Of course I wouldn’t know anything about this…. 😂🙄

As cycling goes I am at the most advanced coach that exists.
My workouts have been 20 years ahead of everyone else's.
Cycling was based around base miles. If you didn't put your base miles in you weren't even considered a cyclist
I am the one who developed a series of intervals. I am the one who was saying the books were wrong and created intervals Cadence and Power to change the cycling world.
This is a hundred percent fact hidden by all RUclipsrs that I have argued with.
I will be exposing this and coming out with the truth as soon as I make my videos.
