As a non-competitive rider I find the power numbers hard to comprehend, but still enjoy your (and Groot's) videos... The key observarion I took was Groot's cheaper nutrition plan clearly didn't hold him back!
@@ChrisMillerCycling Ha! Don’t do it if you feel you’re selling out mate. I have a vested interest as I have one on order. So it’s coming whether I like it or not!
nice vid, I've just done similar Gran Fondo (150km, 2500m elev, 29/404 place) in my area, and it went really well, thanks to tactics finally (start hard - catch fast group and follow :) ), I stopped only on 1 food station (after 2h, so i had 4x750ml water for duration of the race) to get water. I won't be able to finish such events (and also eat) without less water, and especially if it's warmer (25-35*C)
I’m nowhere near the calibre of these riders but I’ve ridden the Bowral Classic a few times and have never had a good day on the bike. Might give it another crack in 2023 and put in good solid training. 😊
Enjoyed the video thanks, good insight and info, regarding your pro's and con"s for bike choice.... if you ever come and ride on most roads in the UK, bring a Fatbike !😂
Agreed about the road surface on the Range Road just after the little b'stard of a climb! It was pretty rough! Still a good event, that's my third doing the 120km. You passed me before Bundanoon which got me thinking.....Either I'm really slow or you were really quick.....still trying to figure it out lol. Also signed up for the Snowy Classic....170km, gulp!
Looked like an awesome ride. Hope everyone stayed safe and had a great time. This year’s MS to the gong had too many crashes for a charity fondo. A few too many guys riding beyond their skill level. (Especially down hills) Then again I can’t say much as I crashed after the finish line trying to unclip hahaha 😂😂😂
You can't compare this to the MS Gong ride, the MS G event is a charity 'ride' not a race. It's full of Grandads, Grandmothers, Dad's Mum's and their kids, not to mention it's hardly challenging terrain, I never got out of the big ring (50T) the whole 89km ride, the climbs didn't justify it. As for crashes, the same thing happened the year before and .... unsurprising considering the diverse range of riders, abilities and the occasional challenging decent, the average Joe just isn't prepared for it. The dangers need to be promoted more imo. Still a great few hours out though 👍
I had the DJI Action 2, loved it but had to send it back as the WiFi signal jammed the GPS on my head unit and you could not disable the WiFi. I assume they've fixed this with the 3?
Really weird that you just happened to post this. I'm targeting a Gran Fondo National Series for 2023 and have been doing endless research/data analysis/training planning to make sure I know what I need to target. Thanks for this vid!
Glad you enjoyed it, Tom. Just great to be back doing big events again it’s been way too long. Hopefully plenty more of this contact come. Glad you enjoyed it.
Congrats on the great result! How do you decide who finishes 3rd/4th when you’ve been together the whole time? Why wasn’t there a final sprint for podium?
As I explained in the video, the nature of these events means you really can’t sprint over the line (kids riding tricycles around the finishing post). So Steve and I just ride it in and we are both 3 and 4th. That said, if he had dropped me on the final climb and rides away from me or something like that, then he’ll cross the line solo and take 3rd. Its just the way with traffic management and getting the event approved through the local council, that we have to keep an eye on.
Unless it's been changed this year the result is not first across the 'finish line' but rather based on their timed sections which conclude prior to the Mt Gibraltar KOM. Sprinting for the finish wouldn't have made any difference.
When doing 30/15`s do you aim at doing exactly 130% of ftp or do you try to do them with the maximal power for the total time of the intervals (15 sets in this example)? Great video, would love to see more of this style of videos
Honestly mate I don’t worry too much about the percent and concentrate more on the highest power I can manage for the time period. So for the 30sec ones I’ll aim for 500w, but the 15 seconds off really so short,
Curious to know how you manage your fluid intake with a no stopping policy. Normally in a competitive event I would drink to thirst at least, but here do you just say at X km I can start my second bottle like a training ride? Do you find yourself very crispy at the end of the race?!
Nice video. The part That surprises me though is that based on your heart rate , it seems like you are on an easy no effort ride. Is your max heart rate only 155-160? Usually when I’m racing my avg heart rate is above that for hours and I’m much older where max heart rates are usually lower. I realize everyone’s max heart rate differs. But most of this video it seems like you are in the 120s, 130s.
About the training ☝️😁 You do understand that I am the first person that was doing interval work and structured training in cycling? I was the one that was made fun of for doing 5 minute intervals and 10 minute intervals and 20 minute intervals and 30 minute intervals. They would tell me well. What are your base miles? Then they'd say all I see on your Strava is 30 minutes for your longest ride. Now I have everybody doing what I was doing since 1998 and people have forgotten all about me. You see Chris. I didn't put my title as the God of speed because I was the fastest man in the world. Even though I was very fast. I put the title there because my knowledge was beyond anyones when it came to cycling training.. Thank God for Strava or I really would not have any proof of this. Because the jealousy in cycling will not allow not even the closest people to you that you were arguing about this for so many years. Telling them that the books are wrong. Not even them will give you the correct recognition. So when you post these sessions of training, you should title it the God of speed training GOS training. Pick one.
Wish we had gradient data - few things less satisfying than the hill appearing flatter than it is.
Love how you explained each person, really helped me understand what you were thinking, why and also what was happening, really unique you did that

Hey Chris, love the way your mixing up the content on the channel lately, great work!
Cheers Dan! Appreciate that
Very entertaining! Love the sound effects as the falcon swooped by. Those character names were priceless!
Enjoyed that. Signed up for the Snowy Classic for the first time. Watched your vid on that one from last year so decided to give it a go.
GREAT video Chris. Would love an assessment of the Factor!
Yep love these vids!
The Wimter Soldier is having a pretty good ride in Tassie too! He was obviously coming on song at this ride.
If you know … you know 😁😁
Would also love a full review of the Ostro Chris. Great riding on the Bowral Classic too. 4.5 watts/Kg for the duration is Herculean 💪
Thanks Andrew. Looks like there is some internet in the factor. It’s so RUclips cliche though 😁

62 kilos. Good grief. I think I remember being that light. Kylie Minogue was on Neighbours, the internet was a fantasy....

Great Job and yes please do a bike review on the Ostro Vam. I am looking at buying and would like your opinion. Thank you
I remember doing a grand fondo to bear mountain and even the down hills felt like I was going up hill.
What's the music at 5:30 ? :)

It’s better, but the file management is is still a stitch up.
I'd be keen for a factor review, also bring back some vlogs anytime soon? :)
Hoping to do some festive 500 daily’s mate. Thanks for the comment.

0:19 - "Chirs" Miller Cycling Race Series?
awesome event and video. thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it mate
thanks Chris
The old CHIRS Miller Cycling Race Series
I clicked to see if rim brakes are still alive. Not disappointed!
Alot of wk to put that 2gether thank you. Bit hard to tell if the 3rd gauge on right was bpm? Didnt get over 150? Gotta be broke
Nah just old man HR numbers sadly.
Thanks for the kind words about the video Dave, really appreciate that.
The rcgs squiggle is the best kit going round
Great insite Chris, nutrition, bike and training, Did you ride 28mm tubeless
Hey Paul. Yeh I should have mentioned the tyres. I ran p zero 28” tubeless

Damn that devel nero is beautiful
What size tyres were you running? Why no use the ostro with 30mm tyres at lower psi maybe you could have your cake and eat it to?.
I was on 28's ... yeh could try the 30's
How do you like that helmet you used ??
Big fan so far. Haven’t tried it in super hot weather yet though
In order to succeed, 😇 you have to fail, no? 🤐You ride a bicycle,🚴 you fail; you try a few times, and you succeed.😀
Well said

Yeh I have a super low max hr. I would love to get it higher, but that’s just the reality of old age
Is this ridden on closed roads?
In sections it’s closed. But closing roads this close to Sydney would probably end up in a riot
You really need to get rid of that "across the line salute"
You wear that jersey and question those bibs? Really? :) well done on the condo.
I knew it!
Yooo000 !
Since when has a grand fondo been a race?
Since the UCI decided to creat a world champs series and these events become qualifiers for it.
